About H5 HoF expansion

It's good to hear dwarves will be in it even more so with their ability to cast rune magic.Kinda reminds the glyphs in thief deadly shadows But what caught my eye was the pet mammoths.Maybe we'll get to see a race with native snowy terrain after all!Looking forward to it.

The latest issue of Russian Igromania has some info on the expansion. Is that a dwarven hero or a unit on the cover, or is it the concept art for Disciples 3...?

Casting spells that depend on resources sounds like an interesting racial skill. It worked well in Disciples, but for all the races... might prove to be unbalancing?

I don't like it

I would like to see the babarians instead of the dwarves in the expansion, awww and yes i like the snow terrain, but i think babarians and dwarves MUST be in the Expansion.

Babarians(They were always in Heroes V)

Dwarves( I think because there is no snow town, so there must be a snow town, too, ay?)

So that is what i think about it!

I feel sorry about the stronghold fans but I would rather see something fresh. There is still hope barbarians won't be left out but we can't even  know if there will be another faction, too much work and balancing for nival I believe dwarves will have do for now,the longer it takes the better planned the next will be.But it's too early to have such a conversation since we don't even know specifics about THIS expansion.Jolly Joker seems to think we'll have more info tomorrow but even if not, small tidbits will be disclosed from now on just to keep the suspence As usual!

Well, you'll gets Orcs eventually (they are in setting background), and where are the Orcs there will always be Stronghold, even if it takes second expansion.

the dwarf supremacy

It seems that for the first time in HOMM the dwarves will show their supremacy. The ideea of rune magic is COOL.The dwarves had to show their faces in h5,because they were mentioned several times in the campaigns. The orcs must return, and the barbarians as well. maybe....

The "barbarian" faction of the game is still there, but it is told that there are not enough orcs, goblins, cyclopses to form a town. You may encounter loads of stronghold faction troops in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

And they said that there are not enough orcs... at this time of timeline

Who knows perhaps in Homm6 they will be enough to form a faction ?

As for dwarves being in the expansion, I had no doubts, since in the lore about elemental dragons that fact was already told. Fire Dragon - Dwarves and Water Dragon - Naga. All other dragons had their worshipers except those 2.

Edit: As for mammoth pet, that could be a mount, of which dwarven hero will use, name.

What I would really like to see is more heroes for each faction, and the re-introduction of the two types of heroes for each town (a hero of might, which is more Attack/Defense oriented, and a hero of magic, which gets more Spell Power/Knowledge), keeping of course the town specific.. Like a might hero from Academy should develop his att/def less than a might hero from haven...

Unofficially, the units are:

1. Frost Spirit/Ice Spirit
2. Battle Dwarf/Dwarf Veteran
3. Dwarf Trailblazer/Dwarf Trapper
4. Runetracer/Runnist
5. Elder Giant/Giant Gatekeeper
6. Chimera/Chimera Queen
7. Ice Avatar/Crystal Avatar

Unfortunately it is known that they have no intensions of introducing the other type of hero and seeing as the original game lacked them we couldn't really get our hopes up.Maybe in the next installment of the series but for now we can still hope more heroes will be introduced,at least 2 more per faction.Sigh...Somehow while a great game I feel that it will never reach its potential.

Right.Looks more like yet another stupid competition by Nival. Some people should realise that some things don't mix well or look absurd and  while I am in favour of introducing new creatures or reintroducing good old units with a twist I fail to see what a chimera(evil creature-I should know I'm Greek) or a giant(afaik they are almost always enemies in either modern culture or myths) have to do with dwarves. And I'd rather not hear some weak excuse of enslavement/servitude or of an unlikely alliance. On the other hand the ice units can be a nice diversion from the dwarf theme and the ice avatar can be an interesting final unit with abilities most tier 7 lack(damn,spirits/avatars usually have written 'ability' all over them!).The dwarf units are more or less what I expected apart from the trailblazer about which I can only guess-either the crafty mechanic or the mounted dwarf
Assuming of course these are indeed the faction's creatures

Agree, the chimera should be removed. I say put in something else at level 2 and move all the dwarves up a tier, removing the chimera in the process.

Also, where's my dwarven demolitions team.

Well if they want to make a balanced game, they have to! It is very easy to understand that, on short term a Mage is gonna kick a Knight easily, and on long term a Knight will kick the Mage easily! (Knight = Might Hero, not the actual Knight)

So it is pretty obvious the need for both kind of heroes... especially since now you cannot hire Deleb playing Academy and hope for the same results as if you were Inferno, since Gating is Inferno only... In old times you could have used Crag Hack without any problems ! Only the Necromancers were unusable

Interesting, and perhaps a bit dissapointing I think - but then, it's hard to say anything based on the names alone. I'm a bit surprised that they stick to the "Ice" theme when the Dwarves are at the same time worshippers of the Dragon Of Fire - I fail to see the connection in that.

As for the types of units - the Runetracer and Runnist is deffinitely a spellcaster, and since it's a level 4 unit, it's likely to be the only caster of this town. Dwarves were never known for their affinity to magic, after all. I wander if this will be (another) caster/shooter, or whether they've taken the step and tried to develop the concept of caster/walkers beyond the not very succesfull Pit Lord (which falls shart because of it's lack of speed). Since there are no other obvious Shooters in this ensemble, I'll guess for a caster/shooter in line with the Druid and Mage (and also Inquisitor and Lich) - but I hope I'm wrong, because there are already so many of this type of units amongst the units at the levels 4 and 5.

I'm a bit dissapointed that the classical "Battle Dwarf" is only a level 2 unit. Since this is more or less the epitome of the Dwarven unit, I had hoped for a really cool level 4 or perhaps even level 5 footman, that would be able to dash out serious damage. This seems now not to be the case. The Trailblazer / Trapper is somewhat of a puzzle to me. The name Trapper fits very poorly with a ranged unit for me. Another footmen at level 3 seems unlikely (the level 2 and level 3 units would then be very similar, and Nival has so far been pretty succesfull at including variation between the units at neiboring levels). This would also rule out a caster (cf. the Runist) - but what then? Time will show, I suppose.

As for the Dwarf / Giant association, I'm sceptic, but as far as I remember, there are traditionally a lot of different Giants - Hill Giants are evil and the enemies of Dwarves, whereas Ice Giants tend more towards good and law, I think. However, Ice Giants are very powerfull creatures (similar to Titans) and an allience between Ice Giants and Dwarves seems dubious - but I can go for that. The name Gatekeeper gives me the impression that this is some sort of tank unit, but it might also be more in the line of the good old War Troll of Heroes 2 and the Heroes 3 Cyclops, something that'll throw boulders or something like that.

The Chimera is not a creature I'm very familiar with, and what to expect of this unit - and whether I like the association to the Dwarves - is don't know. I suspect it to be a flying unit, because this is the only obvious candidate for a such along with the Ice Spirit, and a level 1 + level 6 flyer would provide a fair ballance (also, there are currently no level 6 flyers in the game). I also suspect it to be a very offensive unit - might be a sort of Flying Cerberus, as I found this depiction of a Chimera online:

The Avatar would seem is likely to be a mechanical creature, probably reminiscent of the Dragon Golem I would guess. It would seem to be a likely choice based on the Dwarf - Forge association, and as such fits well with the Dwarves, even though I would probably have chosen another name than Avatar, because an Avatar for me has a religious/divine relation.

The Ice Spirit is actually the unit I'm most sceptical about. I don't like the idea of bringing in "Spirits" because I'd typically associate them with the undeads. If this is a shooting unit, I see no reason not to have stuck to the traditional halfling. If it is a flying unit, I suspect it'll be akin to the Sprites, but I'm still not keen on the idea of invoking a "spirit". But well - perhaps there is a likely explanation for this in the history of the Dwarves. I hope they'll soon release more information on what to expect.

1. Frost Spirit/Ice Spirit

Hmm, I was expecting a ranged Dwarf here. My guess is that this is some non-undead ice-based creature, the upgrade of which throws ice bolts à la HoMM3 Ice Elemental, or similar. Maybe a caster too.

2. Battle Dwarf/Dwarf Veteran

Just what I had predicted by the sounds of it - a low level standard Dwarf unit - but I'd agree with Alci that some sort of level 4 Dwarf Champion would have gone down better.

3. Dwarf Trailblazer/Dwarf Trapper

I'd guessed a Dwarf mounted on a wolf here - which could be possible I suppose, I'm as mystified as everyone else over this level. A shooter instead maybe?

4. Runetracer/Runnist

Runnist? What's that? Otherwise, just what I had predicted.

5. Elder Giant/Giant Gatekeeper

I had Giant - Fire Giant as my level 7 combo, and think I'd like that here too. It's an insult to put Giants so low down. But I have no problem with them being allied with the Dwarves. My guess for level 5 was Troll.

6. Chimera/Chimera Queen

Also just what I guessed - as it provides a link to fire without being to 'flamey', like the Inferno. I'd accept them, but only if my above suggestion for level 7 were implemented, since there would need to be another fire reference for the Chimera to work. Also it doesn't really go with level 1.

7. Ice Avatar/Crystal Avatar

Eh? Doesn't sound good. I don't want something mechanical. To me however, this suggests something Angel-like, possibly our first level 7 caster.

So, my ultimate rewrite would be to move Giants to level 7 and make the upgrade a Fire Giant, removing Avatars in the process. Then add in Trolls, and give them a link to fire somehow too. Make Trappers wolf-riders, and replace level one with a ranged Dwarf (problem - too many Dwarves? - maybe Satyr instead...). Finally make the casters Valkyries, and improve two or three names across the board.

Nobody hinted the avatar had anything to do with mechanics,it seems more likely it will be the representation of an entity the dwarves hold in high esteem or even worship.Ancestors perhaps?
Ice spirit:Why?Typically such low lvl creatures are the personification of nature/elements etc much as wisps and faeries. They simply exist occasionally siding with a race that shares the same morals thus no need to link them with conjuration. And while I like halflings what would they be doing in a dwarf town? It's not as if they have anything in common. Also spirits don't necessarily have to do with undead, they can be found in several other situations:Shamanistic societies, nature and even in heaven!Angels are generally considered to be spirits.
