Skeleton Archers. Because they come in great numbers. even if overall they are weak. ANd with Naadir you get a good start.

actually,with orson you get an automatic 2 more hp
that is important for skellies since they normally have low hp.

To take the creatures individually, I say Sprites since theive got the useful bee spell as a ranged attack, and the no enemy retaliation in melee combat. That way you can keep them alive since you need them during the first stages of the game. Assasins's poision ranged attack is also effective (even later on) but the assasin's slow growth rate and low numbers render them weak. In the beginning, the more the better.


What kind of person choses assassins when their are stalkers available?

As much as I love Sprites and Gremlins, the stalker is ridiculous for early game creeping with Dungeon. 3 free rounds of blasting with no chance of losses against neutrals, then another 1 or 2 rounds while the enemy comes across the screen to hit you. In the meanwhile they just stand there getting killed. What other level 1 gives you THAT much power?

Apart from that they form good invisible obstacles against offensive units much like cerberi on the way to hit something else The opponent is not likely to expect that.

Out of the normal upgrades I'd say the assassins are the most powerful. They have no melee penalty and the poisonous attack which comes in handy. Out of the alternate upgrades I'd say either the Stalkers (invisiblility) or the Skeleton Warriors (awesome defence).

I'm like devils from H4, except I'm level 1

I would say the shieldguard. strongest, not necessarily better... (as if they were bad anyway)

I think that the stronges 1 vs ! creature is either the assasin or the sprite. but in the long run skellys win hands down you can get hundreds of them!!!!!!!!!

i guess each lvl 1 has their advantages and disadvantages

PEASANTS -- are meant to be trained and used in earlygame creeping... the taxpayer ability is nice since haven needs lots of gold.. but still they are a weak level 1 and are meant to be trained

IMPS -- good damage dealers, high initiative makes them a nice offensive unit... they die VERY easily though so its tough to keep their numbers up... then again.. a nice stack of imps can be absolutely crippling for a magic using hero, that is if they survive long enough to do the damage

PIXIES-- good for early creeping... high speed and initiative means you can take out ALL slow walkers without losses... cleansing is nice on the sprites ... spray atk and no retal are useful for keeping them alive still.. the low growth makes them less useful

GOBLINS(yes i play tribes)-- great growth.. generally sucky when not upgraded... the trappers seem to be the better upgrade and the snare ability is quite useful... the fact that they dont retaliate makes them very weak in general... still good to use as cannon fodder and due to their growth are pretty useful

SKELIES-- lets not even talk about them unupgraded... i prefer warriors to archers.. although you can have some really nice creeping against archers with a stack of 1 warrior and the rest archers ... the enemy archers will shoot the more "threatening stack" but your archers will only take half damage.... growth is nice too.. still they like to die easily and their damage output is bad for late game... i find warriors generally better... for later game situations

DEFENDERS-- a great tank! shield guards are absolutely amazing in terms of hp... their growth is quite nice too!... they can really take a lot of hits.. especially when you throw in vitality and ingvar in the mix still their damage is very low (cant have it all) and their initiative is substandard.. even so they are meant to be used for defending as the name suggests they could serve a better purpose if they had something more useful to defend... such as arcane archers XD instead of spearwielders... even so.. you can do some great spell creeping with them (with the right spells that is)

SCOUTS-- ill start off by saying their low growth makes them a lot less useful than they could be.... amazing health for a lvl 1... the shooting penalty makes them pretty bad though ... FORTUNATELY.. they have stalkers in tribes ... these things are absolute GODS for a warlock to have.. they keep the poison... good initiative.. great damage.. good speed.. and invisibility (which got nerfed in 3.1 but is still good)... what more can a warlock ask for... this makes the stalker another one of my fav 1st lvl units... although to me their name should be "stallers" since essentially thats what you are doing .. invisibility is great for archer creeping.. and to insure few losses... make a few stacks of 1 and invisibility them all... maybe 1 or 2 will get shot down but the rest will stall until your hero can blast away

there you have it ... each unit with its pros and cons... some are better used as fodder.. while others can REALLY help in creeping... whats great is that no one unit can be called the best or the worst.. whats more is what you make of them and using them to their maximum potential (beating 80 zombies with only 10 pixies and no losses) or stalker abuse... are just 2 ways in which lvl 1s can be utilized
