My Ideas

I'm new here and I'd like to submit my ideas for HOMM4.

New Spells: invisible-If you attack you become visible.
     Recruit- You get 1/2 of the attacking armies level 1 creatures to come over to your side (if you have a slot).
     Fear- 1/2 of the attacking level 1 creature leave.
     Bind- Keeps winged creatures from flying.

New Creatures:Spiders- They can clinb over castle walls but take damage from the motts, they also shoot webs to bind winged creature and keep them from flying.
    Shapeshifter- Can turn into flying,walking or shooting creature.
    Amazon- Spear throwing lady. She can move and shoot in the same turn, also 30% chance of dodging arrows.

Spell Books- Make 4 books (fire,water,air,earth). You can only use spells if you have the book.

Trap doors - hidden on map, Hero drops down to dungeon below.

Upgrade Castle Walls to have boiling oil poured on creatures in moat.

Upgrade catapult to shoot flameing rocks and can target creatures in castle.

Weather - rain and snow can affect movement (random).
Wind - (random direction) can help or hurt movement of boats.

Treasure chest has choice of gold, experience,or random resource.

When you fight a creature you have choice to let it run away of fight it, I think you should have a choice to quick fight it in order to get experience. If they offer to join you troop that you will lose will appear back in you castle.

Also there should be a magic shop on the map where a hero can buy a spell book, spells and artifacts.

If a hero goes into a town that has a mage tower, it should automatically check to see if he has a spell book and if he don't, ask him if he wants one.

A new town of illusions, the fairy dragon and the enchanter can be two units in the town.

One more...

Hot air balloons to cross mountains, they must be slow and have some random movement. Also subject to dragon air attacks.

Hmm....interesting, but how would you attack the space the army was in? If you had archers you could just click on every space outside of your range until you found the invisible creature. All in all, I'd say this spell doesn't work well with the current heroes system. Maybe with the new engine it would work better.

Cute ideas, but remember spell power is always tied to the casters spell power. I don't see how these spells could be balanced to reflect this.

This is kind of a cool idea, even if it is a weak spell (and certainly one I wouldn't want to find in the mage's guild).

That could be kind of cool. I like the idea of a wallclimbing creature.

The ability to move and shoot is extremely powerful. This would have to be a very high level creature if it existed. Maybe even an NPC critter like the azure dragon.

Doesn't seem neccesary. Just seems like extra bookkeeping (pardon the pun).

Could work

Hmm.....sounds like you just want the moat to do more damage. Would depend on the balance of this.

Might be interesting, I don't think we need to go so far as to have wind direction.

"When you fight a creature you have choice to let it run away of fight it, I think you should have a choice to quick fight it in order to get experience. If they offer to join you troop that you will lose will appear back in you castle. "

I like the quick fight idea, but not the appearing in your castle idea. People would just use this to funnel troops back to their castle and move them around the map.

Well there is already the black market where you can buy artifacts. Spells might be an interesting addition though.

Spell Books

I've been thinking about the 4 spell book idea (fire, water, air, earth). Each castle sells only two books. If you buy the books you can cast level 1 spells of the book. To cast other spells of the other books, you have to go find and buy the books. There can be magic shops like fire, air, etc. that sells those books and also sells spells (this is like the games Might & Magic). This would add more variations to the game.

It would also be nice to have other hidden treasures, with clues to where to find them on the sign posts.

shipyard upgrade

It would be nice to have an upgrade to the shipyard. The new ship would move further and would not suffer the lose of going through the whirlpool.

I think it is not necesary to divide the spell book into four pieces.
You have some cool ideas there, especially the one with spiders and their web.
About the amazon... it seems that you have played diablo 2, but the idea is great, however shooting and walking and dodging.......... isn't it too much, except as nightshade mentioned... it could be a high lvl. creature, a neutral one!!!!!

The amazon I mentioned could only move 1 step before firing. If she could not move clear then she could not fire her ranged weapon. Also her dodging is only 10% for lower level and 20% for upgrade.

The only idea here I agree with is the weather idea and the treasure chest idea (Resource/Gold or EXP) the other ones are just too complex and unrealistic.

Maybe there could be a certain tree you could cut down for wood, clear paths through woods and discover new mines.

Maybe dig in certain areas and discovery gold (random).

Resources.

Those ideas are great. You could mine a mountain to get crystal, dig for sulfur , ore and sometimes gold. Underground you would make small fountains so you could get mercury.I realy like those ideas.

Realism

To make the more realistic i'd suggest that sulfur mines would be found only on lava terrain for example.

I like the ideas, especially the one you find gold in river. Thats a very cool idea. Hope the new engine will provide this. Cutting down trees for wood would be cool. However I think that there should exist two type of trees: the ones that could be cut doen for wood and the other ones that cannot be cut. In this way there will be no confusion when making maps, cuz if all the trees are about to be cutt down, then the map will be flat desert.
What do you think...

There should be special (Unseen) patches of forest where a player could build a sawmill, he has to guess the spot and if he's wrong, the sawmill wont be built but the money will be wasted, or special places in a volcano where sulfur mines could be dug or mountains where  other mines could be dug.

Right

I'm with you (Razor_X) on the idea that some trees should be left unpassable. The volcanos could use some annimation. From time to time they could erupt. The lava would cover everything like 6-8 hexes below. Then after the lava would cool you could dig for sulfur there.

changing terrain

It would be cool if the terrain could change during the seasons, for example the rives could rise and fall, letting you pass one time and then not the next season.

I also like the idea of a hot air balloon. You could guide it in the direction you want but the wind could slightly change your course. Maybe some mountains could not be passed over. You could only get off on clear land. You could have an island that could only be reached by air.

Terrain

The idea of rise and fall of rivers, I agree with. I don't know if you are realy trying to do this Jarret, but it seems that you are trying to transform this game into somethin similar to Warcraft. The idea of a hot air balloon does not fit in.
