Why should anyone pick up chests with a main hero anyway ? It's a scout task to move around gather stuff, main should only kill things and maybe flags mines if none of the scouts is near.
So, cash 99.9% of the time for me, other 0.1% are situations like when I need to take exp to get more money and build something important at the end of the week. I dunno, maybe my hero is Alastor and with level up his mass confusuion will suck poor Druids down to 4 mana instead of 5. Something weird and unlikely anyway

Ohh, I think we agree much more often than, say, me and ZombieLord.. or me and TheDeath
But that's because I write about marksmen too much and they obviously got tired of it

oh well, our D&D personalities are completely opposite so we can't really agree on many things anyway

How much increase in gold does resourcefulness provide when collecting money from chests?

Actually I agreed around 80% in this thread with you

Base idea is that I know the potential of taking gold, especially early game until you have the Capitol, and believe me in my last game I took very much gold, however sometime it's better to take exp. And anyway, chests are not THAT spectacular in general, except on ultra-rich maps (where there are many, obviously)..

What seems somewhat "strange" for me is that calling that "taking always gold" as a rule is a bit... unstrategical. It's not ALWAYS, it's better to think which is better, and adapt your strategies to it. At higher levels, for example, exp is not as good as at lower levels

Well actually without training they're pretty much weak.. so that's training's power, obviously not marksmen nor Dougal whatsoever. And training is quite expensive, the only bonus is that you don't need expensive buildings like tier 7s if you train.

Actually, as good, I love elves.. as evil, my favorites are Inferno () and Dark elves.. so I think we agree on the evil part, at least somewhere but I hate Deleb (I mean, appereance, personality, etc)

Resourcefulness sucks.. Go for Estates if you want gold I'm on the opinion that having a worthwile ability at the end battle is much better than wasting it for additional money, especially if the money is not an "income". But that's just me anyway, you probably find it useful..

To answer your question, Resourcefulness gives you an extra $500 per chest plus some other things.  It's in the manual.

Why? 500 extra is good enough as in the least you'll be offered 1500 gold. Of course in random maps there are some 5000 gold chests! But they are guarded by powerful neutrals.

I agree with sdfx. Normally the main hero should take the first couple of chests for exp and leave the rest to others, except you are playing in a very very poor map.

I often find that my secondary heroes are either busy with other tasks or unable to keep up with my main heroes exploration.  I wouldn't kill the guards of a chest and leave it unclaimed when my secondary heroes are far away, so my main hero takes many chests.  If I am offered Luck in the first 1-3 lvl ups I take it and go for resourcefulness (unless I know the map is poor) If it takes longer than that I ignore it, because lvl ups get slower and if you don't have resourcesfulness early when there are more chests about its not worth it.  Remember too though that resourcefulness also increases the resources you gather.

For me, since i always only play against 'buffed' AIs, also always take exp for the 1st few levels, then gold.  A high enough lvl hero vs a low lvl hero can normally turn the tide, esp when you have spells like puppet master
