...when they are moving over adventure map? Like with angel wings in HOMM3.

maybe the flying creatures should, but the hero should not be able to fly without an artifact or spell.

A group of fx. angels or dragons should be able to fly over some mountains and trees...

Actually, no they shouldn't. Yeah it might be realistic (but maybe not, afterall some mountain ranges are too big for alot of birds and the like to cross safely) but it would screw up game play too much. It's like the whole engineer destroying mountains thing, it would make it impossible to create a map with a real story to it because there would be no way to control where the player moved to.

i know it's boring to fly with angel wings, armageddon's blade and orb of vulnerability..

but maybe it could be done some way that doesn't spoil the game. and it's nice if you can play with what you have got, without thinking about what is good for gameplay, e.g. if your army consists of flying creatures only.

maybe restrict it so that angel wings or fly spell affect only the hero and not the troops. so, on some maps you could have a dwelling where you could recruit a magically flying ship or chariot and fly with your walkers and your hero. maybe the ship would not be easy to control and would take you to more or less random locations.

maybe dimension door would be an artifact that you can use only once, and maybe a permanent and probably two-way monolith would be created that way. or it could be two artifacts that you would build into monoliths, or maybe you could even pick the artifact monoliths up and move them to a different place, so that it can also be done by an opponent. or if a hero carrying one of the two corresponding artifacts would act as a monolith, this could even be dangerous if the opponent captured the other half. even the town treasury idea might suit well with the portal artifact thing. or maybe you could just build a portal in a town if you have the artifact.

imho the logic and interesting ideas are supreme, because you can often try to find a playable solution.

...I'm not sure it is was just a rumor or something, but wasn't it announced that if all the units in a certain army could all fly, they could actually fly over all terrain?

Yes, it's so. If you have an army of Black Dragons only, they can fly over water terrain and! even stop on it if their movement points end. But maybe this is a bug in the beta.

hmm...... it seems the black dragon is again the strongest unit in HoMM IV it got the highest Hp and now it can even fly

Well angel wings, fly spell, and dimension door were never unbalancing to maps because the map maker could just not include them in the map if they would unbalance things. Look at any good story map, and you will see that those particular spells and items were banned from the game. Flyers on the other hand could not be easily banned from the map since every town has them.

And I've never heard this rumor before about an army of all fliers being able to go everywhere they want, and I have read every preview. Perhaps you have a link to this somewhere?

..hmm, I'm sorry but I've been kept extremely busy with schoolwork lately, so I haven't exactly had much time to update my site with...its in my notes somewhere, but I'm not sure of the source...but as soon as I finish compiling my FAQ and such, I'll be glad to tell you (hopefully that will happen by the time 2 weeks have passed )

not over ALL terrain....

just over water... at least thats what 3do said before.
i seriously doubt they would let them go over all terrain

(if this idea is already taken sorry)I think that if a hero has all flyers that hero should fly, and mosters on the map should be able to fly over opsticals too.

Well, maybe hero can fly on a dragon with his hands around dragons neck but what about his horse - poor fellow will drop down when you reach 20 feets...

I found that when u flew in HOMM3 your horse flew with u. i dont think that should happen but the graphics restrictions probably didnt let the desighners do anything about it

Ah well being able to go over water is more reasonable. You can still build maps that take that into account. But being able to go over all terrains with fliers would ruin heroes. All of the cool maps would be ruined and impossible to make. Even guardian monsters would be useless because you could just fly around them and grab their stuff from behind.

I think they do, and it would be a big advantage if their ability would be applied as another form of logistics!

about army being able to fly even if hero can't. also, what if the army consists of the hero only? so you must have some e.g. amount of hit points of fliers to carry some amount of hitpoints of walkers..

well, i can imagine 100 sprites carrying a hero over a mountain or forest (if the forest will be unpassable), or over the sea..

i don't like to use the word 'idiotic,' so i will not say it here. but on the other hand, it seems i have already said it, sorry.

i think they should fly, because if you have dragons then dragons are BIG and they can carry your 1000 skeletons or 5 behemots on its back!
