Now, that was a game worth to be waiting for...
You think I should have a pre-order?

well if u wait you could get the game alot cheaper (games on release days are overpriced). if u wait long enough you could prolly get both NWN2 and its expansion (if it comes) for the amount the same amount u wouldve bought NWN2 with on the release date

so id say wait. unless you are a D&D freak who might go crazy without the game. then u should pre order

Hey,

- Well I have pre-ordered it. Apart from the price ( which really dosent matter ) you get an online key so you can start dl'ing the new tool-set and get a head start ( for your new / old ) server. But I have to warn you though. The dl is rather slow atm. And it comes without any manual ( besides the bits and pieces you can find online/  ~ various sandboxes and the like ).

- On a side note take a look at this link to one of the greatest severs online ( imho ) : Former Aantioch mainpage

Hey,

- Here is a great tool-tip-basic-walkthrough for the early release
( IF you have it pre ordered ) as the final touch probably only will come on the game release date. Clever though ( wink wink Ubi/Nival ) that Obsidian has released it for sandboxes and the like many ppl has already pointed out some flaws in it.... but then theres time for it to be fixed...

- Here it is and dont panic   ( it take a little while to load pdf ya know )

Basically, you should never pre-order a game, for these reasons:

1. You get high expectations, that the game will come ON THE DAY it gets out, and THAT IT WILL WORK as described

2. The game will be late for ONLY YOU, the rest will get their game - you end up wasting a few days just waiting and reading forums about how happy the other ppl are who have their game. You cry.

3. Once you get the game, you find out that there's a bug that makes the game not work with YOUR video card. Ppl have similar problems on the forum but the game developers say nothing. You go out and get a new graphics card instead of waiting for a patch. You say to yourself its to make up for how long u waited for the game.

4. The game crashes at random, has a memory leak, and has a game breaking bug that stops your progress in the campaing. You replay the same missions over and over while waiting fora  patch. When the patch comes it erases your savegames and charactres, who are not compatible with the 1.1 version.

5. After the 1.1 patch, you see your neighbour come home with the game, and he is really happy that he found this great new game. He installs it, downloads the 1.1 patch, and plays without any problem. You silently curse him and his kind for having such an easy time with the game that gave you so much trouble.

That's why Im against pre-orders

Hey,

- Heh, your a bit on the pessimistic side there matey  But again I do have to agree on some points in your post. I was going a bit OOC from the origional thread.... I am talking about the pre orederes game, yes, but foremost, the "tulebox"  - for ones server(s) - and with it the new scripts !! ........

- Anyways, I can almost tell from your post , you havent played NwN .. or did you just complete the campaign just now .. on hard ? heh

- Anyways, played it 3 times with 3 different charaters.. I assume you mean from NwN 1 yes ? - But I get why you are "falling in love" with Valen.. great toon   But you really should try out the amazing online play.. and the best part is... it's only a few clicks away

Hey,

- Not 100% true, Lith, as you can read in the following forum, it's not been decided yet : Linux - Mac support ?
But I do agree about your last statement, I am a long time "mini" dev myself

alas...

the link you provided is known and read a million times so far... sadly, the result is still the same, no linux/mac client for NwN2... and they only have to pay one single person to do it, its not that hard, they simply don't care

as for the modules, it is pretty much what kept NwN alive till now... mod series like Hex Coda, a Dance with Rogues, Dreamcatcher, Elegia Eternum or Sands of Fate, are basically new games and put to shame many commercial titles (and in some cases, even the story of NwN itself)

Neverwinter Nights 2.... or maybe 0.5?

today i had the chance to play Neverwinter Nights 2 for about five hours... it wasn't on my computer, i stuck to the main campaign and i tried to be as objective as i could

i was disappointed... i had high expectations for this game... unfortunately it was not meant to be... so much potential... shot down without a second thought... but lets break it down:

Graphics: on the good side, the models are superior to NwN1 ones, more polygons, better textures, better effects, better animations... yet for some reason (the use of DirectX actually) the game looks worse than the first... if you have played Dungeon Siege 2, there is not much you haven't seen... the world looks too plastic... too fake ...custom material for NwN1 modules can be vastly superior... and it comes from people that do it for fun

Sound: the music follows the standards of NwN1 (in fact, in many cases it is a copy/paste thing... they could do better) and is generally pleasant, even good... but the voice overs... ugh! ...some are decent... others, like for Dwarves or Lizardmen are simply horrible ...had i been a voice actor for it, i would ask for my name to be left out of the credits

Character Creation: somewhat "polished" version of the original... barely enough to make it worth... some stupid choices made (especially when it comes to selecting a voice)

Storyline: as much as i played, it showed promise, but still clings to some overused elements... still, i can't really judge it before i play the rest of it... to the point i did play however, the game is no Torment... on the plus side, its not a torment either

Gameplay: for the love of all that is sacred... WHY?! ...this is one aspect of the game where they really fubar-ed things up... remember the nifty radial menus of NwN1? ...a trademark feature... they went the way of the Dodo in 2 ...no more radial menus... buhbye danny... see ya ...and we go on to pop up windows of the interface, like Inventory, Character screen, etc... definitely a step down from NwN1 ...now you either use the shortcuts, or you slow down by 50% ...the inventory? a mess, all items occupy one slot no matter their size... yes yes, a ring takes up as much space as a fullplate armour set ...remember the transparent windows of NwN1? the very practical dialogs? wave buhbye to those too... with DirectX running the show, now we get blocky stuff that hinder gameplay more than helping ...and if you are forced to play in 1024x768... don't even go there...

Overview: while the game has redeeming features, they are not enough to balance out the steps back ...while NwN1 was the Ultimate RPG Platform, NwN2 is destined to be Yet Another D&D RPG ...unless they add the things they took off, the game is bound to be a reminder of what people should not do when creating a sequel to one of the most successful and loved games around...

buy it, if you have nothing better to buy... play it, if someone you trust tells you the story is worth it (i heard its better than Torment's, but didn't have the time to test it... if it is true, this will make the game a must buy) ...till they finally shape it up however, stick to NwN1 ...there are too many good modules to move on, the new game is probably not worth it... or at least not worth its number... Neverwinter Nights Option 2, perhaps... but not Take 2

EDIT: after a bit of looking in the forums and finding not 1, but 6! complain threads about NwN2, i came upon this list of 101 things that should not be

-- NWN 2 was a huge disappointment for me as well. I really loved NWN 1 (And the previous games like IcewindDale 1-2, Baldur's Gate 1-2, and Planscape Torment) but NWN 2 was just not for my taste.
-- Compared to that I think NWN 1 was a lot more enjoyable IF you1ve tried the alternative worlds online like Nordock or Dalakora. (I wonder if anybody knows about these online multiplayer mods for NWN1.)
-- They promised that they'd give Dark Elves in NWN2 but how did they look? They were SOOOO UGLY...
- So all in all : NWN 2 is just ... unfortunately...
