One more thing, I think the Arcan Armor is a nice spell for sure but unless you are building a strategy around one stack it probably will not win the battle for you. Now, if they modified it to have a small area of effect (maybe just 4 tiles) then it would be a serious contender against massively damaging onslaughts of destructive magic like meteor shower and implosion.


Do not spend money to buy miniarties, just use the resources you have. Use all the money to hire troops and some cheap artifacts.

arcane armor gives 1500 extra hp when the hero has 15 power(better than two resurrections). It can not have area effects because then it is insanely overpowered. Cast it on MGs and OGs with miniartis to buff their hp. The best way to counter the aoe spells is to leave at least two spaces between each two stacks.

First, every faction need luck to win the game. If you are really unlucky, then no one can save you. When I played dungeon, my hero occasionally have less than 10 power at level 15 or higher, or 6 knowledge at level 20. Another time I have never offered tent for my havez before he got to level 20! So if someone keep complain about the risk of this game, I sincerely recommand them to play chess. And remember there are plenty of ways to learn magics. If there is a dragon castle or pyramid or mage tower on the map, then you have nothing to worry about. Or you can learn spells from other towns, just build mage guild there. Or you can learn spells from enemy hero and creature or netuals if you have arcane intuition. Good players can always find the best spells on the map for them.

Second, Counterspell may be used only on dungeon. And since your hero can't cast spells while using it, you'd better learn war machines and some physical skills then. Magic Mirror is another must have when facing dungeon. Suppress light is very powerful against haven and fortress and academy(because the battle between academy tend to last long). Dark seal is great when the enemy is necropolis.

First,I should insist my opinion isn't that academy will win,I mean that dungeon didn't have that much chances to win.(55% maybe but not 99%)

I calculate that the dwelling and troops costs your about 24000g(with the capital 34000),and academy cost 25000g(include the magic tower,library,Arcane Forge and blacksmith)So,is it very hard to touch?
Actually,the money is not the problem to the academy,just resource.
Maybe 86wyp describe it not very clearly.MMR was depend on the large number low-level creatures and the magic.And it doesn't mean to build the guilds regardlessly.

Let's foucs on battle.
With stone spikes I should admit that Dungeon have more chance to win.
But at the previous situation the hero didn't have it.And I think it's unfair that didn't involved this magic before.

A simple icebolt+motw combo can repel any warlock in earlygame. Even without arties you have obsidian gargoyles and golems that take reduced damage but you already know that dungeon will cast aoe due to magic mirror so you won't place them close.

lool ... you misunderstood completely what I was saying ! I didn't mean Basic destructive Magic... Of course Expert Destructive.
I meant stone spikes is lvl 1 spell .. basic as in very easy to get

Save My Academy race!

I don't know what to do in game.

Playing Academy. Wasn't even my choice. Playing on map Allies, it had preselected choices I could choose from, including one being Inferno.  The other, I believe, was Haven, or the Academy race.

To be honest, MY FIRST custom game, full play through. I wasn't sure what I was doing in the beginning! Before this, I been playing the Campaign for few days, learning the game mechanics, getting used to the game. Little had I known, so much was yet to learn, as I only got through the 4th or so quest of Queen Isabela.

So I started Allies, choosing Academy, on a 2v2v2 6x player map. I probably left it at normal, though I could have made it easy. Whatever difficulty level 2 is, is what I set it at.

So being Academy, so is my ally. I had a hard time learning the Academy Creatures, and the Wizard spells in the beginning, but I was able to hold on and keep winning fights with the neutral creatures. It took a long time for me to build up my base.

If curious on how I played, feel free to ask me about my Steam Profile name, and add me as friend, and you can see my screen shots! I have 100's on this game alone already, I'm sure. I love taking screenshots, and probably get carried away doing so.

After a week or so game time, Blue was finished off, one of the Inferno. Neither me nor my ally had anything to do with it, so it appears the Haven race is dominating across the map. Red was still in it, but they barely able to hang on. By mid game, my ally scattered across map with absolutely NOTHING defending his base, and ME not aware of how big the threat was, Yellow came in from shores, and captured my Ally base. His closest Hero was 2-3 days out, and not knowing anything about the game, I thought maybe I could "Liberate" his city (thinking Civ V game Play). So my Champion hero, Jhora, quick to gain Colossus' but yet to get Rakshasa's or Sultans, made it to Yellow's captured Academy town. Good fight, I gained good artifacts, took a mild loss, but gained the town only to realize I could not give it back to Teal!

Cool I thought, I had double Academy towns, thought It would all be up hill for me from there. Shortly after, Green captured my town, but I captured back, only for another Green to capture the other Academy town. From there, I was at a loss for weeks (game time) trying to figure out how to defend both! I never had another STRONG hero, though I used many others for scouting, and running new troops to Jhora without bringing her back home so much! I don't know if those mid week were played right. Finally after about 2 more weeks following the fall of my Ally, I finally had all 7 creature building upgraded. One of the last buildings I got was L5 Mage Guild.

I read your initial posting (to the OP), and I don't understand how you maintained all your resources. I can't seem to hold on to the good ones, Crystal, Gems, Merc for more than a turn or two. I struggle with resources. My Hero is L.24 or so, Master in Ice, and destructive, not so much in fire, though I wanted to. I discovered Town Portal and Summon Creatures, which is now helping a lot, as Jhora doesn't have to return home any more.

She leaves castle trying to regain as many mines as she can grab, watching how close the adversary gets to my castle, and Town Portals home to defend it. I have upto about 46 Titans, 600+ M.Gremlins, 180+ Archmages... just for some examples of numbers. Seems she doing well.

OH... forgot to mention, a week or so after my Ally fell, Red also Fell. Two adversaries left, Green and Yellow, both Ally, initially Haven! Green also has BOTH Inferno castles. Yellow and Green keep trading off the other Academy city with me, but I take it back a turn or so later.

SAVING often, when I realized how difficult the game is getting, many times I get into a fight with Klaus, an Inferno, run by Green, who I can NOT defeat!! He has well over 1000 of them lil RED punks who drain my Mana... first chance he gets, those lil boogers drain all my 200 mana, and I'm left with NO spells, and the fight falls down hill fast. My 180+ archmages do huge damage on 3-4 creatures or machines behind first shot or so in fight, but they don't last long. Everyone else is slaughtered not long into fight. Those damn demon lord what ever that cast fireball take out half my army in 2nd or third cycle of turns. I CAN NOT seem to find any way to get upper hand on Klaus. Instead of accepting this defeat, as Jhora is the ONLY one capable of defending Mutazz, my home city, I reload the latest Sved game before losing a fight. Either I run from fight, or Portal Home to avoid it, knowing his first few moves.

Jhora has the Frost Shield which protects against fire magic, and adds +2 defence to all, and other good artifacts. Some cool looking Blue cape adds +6 to spell power, and another artifact adding spell power. I have Arts to boost my Lightning spells, my Frost spells, and my Fiery Spells. She has been my ONLY Hero now for while, holding on to Mutazz (Capitol, or my first city) for while. Anytime Klaus approaches Mutazz when Jhora is out, and she Torn Ports BACk home in time, I move her into Garrison to defend it, and the NEXT Turn, Klaus turns away, and leaves my town alone!! He obviously knows I'll be difficult in a fight against my Castle with Jhora garrisoned, but when She tries to attack in the field, He SLAUGHTERS my troops!!

I'm at a stale mate! Unless any potentially Strong suggestions come through here, I will probably discontinue my Academy game soon... and start a new!!

IMHO: on "Heroic" multiplayer, the each all factions is better than Inferno.
Some factions are unbalanced - i.e. "Haven" (Divine Vengeance) and "Fortress" (Rune Magic) making them almost unbeatable in the late game, even the Sylvan and the Stronghold is a VERY hard to beaten in the late game. So consider it's when you playing the original ToTE 3.1, multiplayer...

Jhora attacks with 7 stacks of 1 gargoyle, casts a couple of destructive on his strongest stack, surrender. Rehire, repeat. And repeat. And repeat ^^

Your friend might punch you though

PS I am not entirely sure if obsidian gargoyles are safe from curse of the netherworld. Better check before attempting this, unless you know for certain that the opponent does not have expert dark or the tome of darkness.

Will consider! but unfortunately, I've exhuasted the Wizard Heros, as I once had Jhora +3 others. Now just Jhora. Unfortunately, as the ONLY town I can hold on to, Mutazz, the enemy, Green or Yellow, have 4-5 towns between the two, both allied, and about 3-4 different Heros each. Jhora been succesful for the most part against some the heros, but she CAN NOT even compete against Kraus (or Klaus) the inferno I run into once in while!!


So, I may try your concept, but without Wizard Heros, the Gargoyles will simply be "Foreign" with other race heros. Idk if this is a concern. I read somewhere, try to keep Hero's aligned with your City types, so that creatures match their race with hero, and hero has more effective options within the City. I tried getting scouts of other races, and keep them with their new creature saving all my Academy for my Jhora. unf, weak hero scouts dont last a first cycle in combat against most Green/Yellow heros.


So I'm left with Jhora camping out at Mutazz, either waiting for the coming of new troops to beef up her power, and wander off to see whom she encounters, only to Town Portal back when someone too close!! If I meet an adversary in the field, and I can plan ahead before the fight, I Summon creatures from the town, allowing me to take from town Garrison without being in town... to help with the encounter. Again, everyone I meet in battle I beat, except... Kraus. In this type of scenario, sense I don't portal back, I continue on, and maybe get a few more mines, before I see a hero approaching Mutazz, and Jhora than portals home.

It's a Vicious Cycle that's only getting worse.

I can try your Hit & Run to see... but if they go up vs Kraus?? His 1k + whatever the lil red creatures are called which sap my own Mana... no hero will effectively Hit & Run as you here stated!!

MAYBE  a More expensive H&R i considered...

Hero with 7x Archmages. They have Fireball, not all would get destroyed if 7x different stacks. So I get in fight, Kraus lil red devils (WTF are they called?) sapp the small hero Mana. Few of my A.Mages get hit, the Remaining ALL fire Fireball onto his troops... maybe reduce A LITTLE??

Most Kraus' troops are in the high Hundred... with 1200+ mana SAPPERS. 50 + devils that fire fireball, 100+ fire chain units... Kraus is just TOO Strong... Idk that anything will work!!

Just try obsidians, there is no way he can kill all 7 stacks before you use a mark and cast. Picking destructive and allowing the opponent to get such ridiculous armies was not a good idea, only hit&run can save you now. What are your stats anyway?

I tried to read through that guide entirely and it's HARD to read through!! hard to follow everything it was saying, especially when I got to the bottom! I will try to continue reading it another day! However, everything It's mentioned in the guide, won't Help me now. I'm well developed, probably beyond week 5 of game, and out numbered.

I keep referring to lil red's Sappers which drain my hero's mana early... Kraus has at least... 1200+ Familiars!! ONE Stack! In game, all it says is "1k" for the stack count. In the last fight I tried going against Kraus, my stack of 44x Titans, cut down to 33 in first round, the 33 Titans hit the stack of 1k Familiars, saying 250+ killed, and stack still showed 1k.

200 Mana GONE before Jhora can cast FIRST spell!! I'm helpless!! Hopeless!!

IDK off hand. I'm not in game Atm! She a L.24+ i believe. I know cause Town Portal required L.20. And I portal!

SO with your H&R, are you expecting me to USE Jhora? if she retreats, how can I ensure I get her in Tavern?

I noticed the Tavern doesn't always show available the Hero you Want! She too high to risk losing the chance to get her back! If I use her in a H&R, do some damage to Kraus, only to not find her in Tavern, no L.1 Hero will save my town should they come knocking... EVEN if my entire Army stays at home while Jhora out galavanting the map for H&R. There just no way I see doing so.

Again, i mentioned earlier... she being my only hero now, she does venture out. She gets about mid way in map, watching the mini map to see where Hero's are located... and manuever her to avoid any contact, just trying to reclaim mines... for the Umptenth time.

IF someone gets close to Jhora in the field, and I can preview their troop layout before a fight, than I'll persue for an encounter, take the exp.

However, more often than not, She be out, and someone is seen going in direction of Mutazz. I watch em every turn to see how far they move, and predict when they have Mutazz in 1 turn, than Jhora Town Portals. Sometimes she expends all movement on turn running for ONE Last mine, before still able to Portal back.

No one has tried to attack Mutazz with Jhora there! I'm sure that will change soon. Everytime she returns home in portal, any mine she grabbed is taken back by enemy.

There ONLY 2 mines close to Mutazz, Lumber and Ore, which I been able to hold on to. I also gain Gems from in town, the Resource Silo. Otherwise, Mutazz has no steady supply of other resources... only when Jhora ventures out.

For STATS?

I don't recall all of them. If you are on steam, look me up from below, and find my profile, and say hi. Friends can see my Screenshots!!  I have some profile shots showing stats, and my skills layout, and other shots of Hero.

BEFORE you look... keep in mind, I'm new! I just got HOMM V a week ago!! $8+ and change, I got HOMM V, 2x DLC, and HOMM III... one bundle on Steam. I loved HOMM III 20 years ago, so I had to get it!

After 4x quests in Campaign about the Queen of the Griffons... I opt to try my hand in a custom game... AND here I am struggling in the end game with Academy vs 2x allied Haven, one with 2x Inferno captured towns. So... TO say I'm the only one standing? against a Juggernaut. Who Can't defeat me in castle? I think I'm doing good! I just at this stalemate because of his Kraus!!

Ofc you will use Jhora, is she not your best hero? It basically goes like this. You head straight for Klaus, he attacks thinking he's cornered you. You nuke him and type gg wp before surrendering. Surrendered heroes can be rehired in the tavern with the army they had so you rehire Jhora and go nuke him all over again

That is why I asked stats, your destructive is gonna need a LOT of spellpower to be effective.

PS you may want to nuke familiars first.
PS2 take a look at your artifact merchant, it restocks every month.

ahhh... ok. than I shall try and remember that! Meanwhile... where do I keep all her Troops? 40+ Titans? 600+ MGrems? 180+ Archemages? Just leave them all in town? L1 Hero to cover for Jhora?

also... you seem to miss the fact Klaus still has 1200+ Familiars waiting to drain my mana!! Every attempt I tried to encounter him, he Familiars were EARLY in the fight!!

If I recall correctly... her spell power is like 15. Knowledge was 10-12. This just guessing from memory! I will tell you, her Mana Pool is 200 in battle, but the Familiars... enough that drain me before her FIRST chance at casting!! She helpless!

I never seem to get first chance in a fight!

Oh.. I don't think you'll do much with 15 sp. Imps have 13 init so they are 30% faster than your hero, even if you are lucky with the random starting atb I doubt you'll ever play first.

OK I was off... way off... for the good though.

Now looking at a screen shot of last hero comp before last save...

L.23 Wiz. Att/Def/SP/K/M/L/Mana = 4/8/26/20/3/2 & 200/200.
In this shot, she currently has (All Units mentioned are the upgraded versions, I can not recall all their names); 705x Grems, 28x Rakshasa's, 21x Djinns, 180x ArchMages, 153 Obs Gargoyles, 83x Golems, 47x Titans.

Next page over... The Arti's I show she holding onto (mostly guessing on names, trying to describe, I can't recall what they all called)... She has a ring which protects against a Light Of Wording spell or something like that, she has something equiped on neck with 50% bonus to destructive frost spells, a Wand or hand tool which has 50% bonus to Destructive Lightning Spells, and a Cape which boosts Destructive Fire Spells. She also has a Blue Robe which +6 to Spell Power, and the Frost Shield, or Shield of Frost, which +2 defense and 50% protection vs Fire Spells all units.

Next shot showing next screen shows her Skills if your interested. She Has Advance Artificer, Advanced Sorcery, Expert Destructive Magic, Expert Enlightenment, Expert Summoning Magic, Expert Leadership.

I forgot what the specialization on the bottom is, again not in game, just looking at screenshot... it's a Book half open, with book mark hanging out, I think it the Scholar Skill, able to teach other Heros my skills. Maybe.

I would try and explain what Perks And specializations I chose under the skills... but I don't know what they're called either. I know under Destructive Magic, I went Expert on Fire, Ice, Lightning! I have a high Diplomacy or recruiting under Expert Leadership. I don't know the Rest!
