ToH Maps Renewal

A % of players, like to play same maps over and over.
Another % like to play new maps, even blind or with just few editor glimpses.

As it is, toh map page has very few maps listed, which helps reduced activity further. Most nowadays play Dml, Bfh or Ashes. Having 3 maps available after months of game realease, looks to me quite depressing for community, considering also that homm series has reached #5 and overall mapmaking skills and game knowledge have been evolved.

I made a map recently, Dueblo. It is not the best map in town, if I believed so, i’m arrogant enough to come forward claiming so. And wouldn’t make sense to be best, since im still half n00b + is my first h5 map. Yet, id prefer losing my time playing that , than on Two Sides or Final Encounter (am not saying those are bad maps- they just are without having to say so)

Anyway, I made a research on maps4heroes.com data base, and picked out several multiplayer maps, under a general yet clear criterion: which I would enjoy playing at least once
.. btw, this whole procedure took me bout 4h, i wasn’t just looking minimaps or high ratings (the real big effort though, was having to bear editor lag). So, i came up with these 8

Dark Forest by PitonKAA (H5, XL nu)
Looks nice if in mood for a long full fat game. Better play player 4 vs player 2 cause they both main sides are on green and also they opposite corners.

Der Fluss by MkOne (H5, M nu)
Rather small one, yet rich and very tightly closed. Mebe needs bit weakining of guards to opponent, or maybe im wrong.

Der Teufelsschatz! by Topasis (HoF, M nu)
One more small and rich, lightly closed, have to kill 50 raksha and 50 wraiths to pass.

Dragontooth by Lachdanan (HoF, M nu)
Have to love this fog. Looks closed in a regular way, also has some new hof buildings.

Giant War by Jb239 (H5, M u)
At first sight, looks better than bfh and hg put together..

In Zeiten des Krieges by Shadownec (H5, M u)
Plays 4-2 or 3-1 (opposite sides). You could add cpus as well on this one.

Pumpkin Farmers by Remie V (H5, M nu)
Cute, very h5-ish title, lightly closed, seems the weakest choice of this compilation. And ofcourse I could be wrong again.

EDIT
Dragons Cape by Fosgen (H5, S nu)
Actually havent missed this one, was one of my first picks, somehow got slipped under the carpet. Very dangerous map, so play at your own risk. Seems has Thought put into it, must be the best fast/rush map around. This could also be named 'Black Russian', if you get what i mean, eh?

Also noticed, there was many maps out there quite promising, but either unfinished or over-reacted. Is very hard to make a multi map unless you have multiplayer experience(or hotseat with different ppl)

So, my suggetion is to have those on toh page, or just take my advice and play some blindy once in a while (and dont forget to report on bfh). We' re not in it for the money anywayz

p.s

I think the 2 following map choices should be added :

1) random maps!! rmg is there its not perfect but its ok.
2) other map , people can play other maps like those above who are not in toh maps page.

Another maps problem is not appearing dwarwes in old maps...

So we need patch that remove changes, or transfering al maps to 2.0 (At least remain 2 wersions for 1.4 and 2.0 until most players get 2.0)

rob, u can let jinxer do again the maps update, he seems to be pretty into the heroes business, has alot of time this winter season, ppl tend to keep their head treasure just to avoid buying new hats (its not "sales" for that ). as a bonus to encourage him,  i could let him win on the map we play  .

well, on a more serious note, we REALLY need any "decent" map,  available for MP, no matter where they come from, cause there will be always someone who will like it and should prepare this way the CLANS thing.
i was just surprised these days when i discovered guys who are pretty entertaining to play with, and maps => more games => chance to know each other better which will be a plus , definetelly.

if we manage to gather around 25-30 players who constantelly playing we can try to give it a shot to the tournament. need maps tho, i myself am working on a map aswell, but for quality stuff needs time.

and add rmg to the maps list in report section. thank you

have a nice day

More maps, more maps, more maps! I am of the ones who like to play a map first time, without having the slightest pre-knowledge of the map apart from that it is big, bigger or even bigger than that

I am in process of making a map.... albeit SLOW process...but a good multiplayer map shouldnt be rushed....  it will be like nothing youve seen. So there are more maps on the way...

I like the insatiables idea...but I think a maps council should be re established to study and look over maps that are suggested before posting them.  They need to be of tournament quality and not junk like land of outcasts etc or maps of the sort.

As it is now that we have a variety of multiplayer maps, land of outcasts should be banned completely.  It is still being exploited...

I would ofcourse re-volunteer my services as TOH admin.  Thats up to Ves however....

Here's my problem; I really DO need a map council.  A team to review the maps and such.  Also the discrepancy as to how maps are submitted is causing some chaos (eg Jinxer's complaint).

Lastly, I've been going through hell (healthwise) -- Subacute Granulomatous Thyroiditis -- My thyroid glands have swolled like hell, causing extremely high metabolism & heart rate -- and tremendous fatigue.  I'm not going through the details but the weakness & fatigue has put me out big time.  I barely keep up with all my 'Internet' projects.  And they say this can last 3-5 months!!! not looking forward to it.

Just started a game and gonna go into final battle soon with fraudatio in the map gaint wars... Wow... its a great map really love it
However with the kind of resources and gold mines in there, haven might be abit overpowered on this map.

The map was great, no doubt about it. To sum it up, my Haven hero was smacked so bad by Ossir that it still hurts. His 29 emeralds took 17 of my arch angels and had 2 attacks before I could move a leg. My computer crashed the same sec that the emerald dragons destroyed half my army - and they say machines dont have brains...

The sad thing is that necro will probably have a reeeeeaaally hard time on this map with the importance of lvl 7 units. As known, necro doesnt have any...

Alternatives to BfH:
Ashes and Sands
Great Wars
Dead Mans Lake
..to name a few, personally I dont like BfH much at all, but that is maybe due to prior bad experiences

I really am confused as to what everyone sees as so great and special about Ashes and Sands?  I have to admit it is pretty to look at, but my first game on it was the most boring experience I have ever had in any H5 game yet. So much empty spaces. Long distances between battles. Takes a couple weeks to really get rolling.  Maybe it was the color I had, but me and my opponent both agreed to quit the map and start another due to extreme bordom.  And we were into week 4.

My comments mean no disrepect to map maker. I know its hard to make maps.  Its taking me forever to make my current map.  But I think to much time was spent on making map look pretty and not enough on the built in strategy and playability of map.

Just my 2 cents...which prolly isnt worth a nickle.

Another great map,
Hourglass, i know some don't like it cause of the huge armies, But if iniative arts were distributed more evenly in this map, things could be more fair and the map more fun
There are lots of ups and downs in this map You can assemble a big army in week 2, and fled when fighting a horde of archmages on the way etc

Random wars, have not completed this map though but this is a nice map, but yet, it is very hard one to play U'll almost be toying with suicidal all the time esp in week 1 hehe

Dead man's lake is probably abit unfair for necros and haven dominating this map no doubt it is a very nice map. So a random with anyone getting necros or haven would make the other party kinda depressed

Did a take a closer look at it ? Yes.. the monolith exit actually leads you to the top of the map so u dun need to walk many days without a fight.. and there are so many places to go .. u will need to put the priorities right though. My first game there was a diasaster and its pretty hard to play it blind since its not so straight forward like bfh, but its an overall good map with the possibility to get ultimate or utopia etc etc. My opponent gotten urgash call there in only week2 month 2
The best part of that map is that it is so confusing its hard to plan what u want hehe

I agree bfh, or jb maps like hourglass and giant wars are very well made map but its kind of boring to always play the same map, nice to try out a new one other than bfh once in a while

having played those 2, i may comment a bit more:

Dragontooth
Indeed great for one shot. Overlong at first weeks, cause of hard start. That makes it very interesting, gives out an epic game feeling you re slowly grow an empire, but reduces its re-playability. Some extra road and 1-2 monolith entrances would be great, cause as it is you have to go into some deep dead-ends wich is extremely boring, if not have town portal or no one way entrance at dead end. Isnt toughly closed but hard to make decision to attack, cause is long way to opponent area. As it is i would rate:
Play once: 8,5/10
Play twice: no freaking way unless changes made

Giant War
Woowow hold your horses.. too much too soon, im stuffed.
Quite interesting however. The garrison is a challenge, seems impossible. Maybe needs waiting of 2-3 more weeks only to kill it- at that point map makes a serious beer-belly.
Play once: 7/10
Play twice: 'neeeext'

Dragons Cape

Played it for about 3 weeks, till de-sync, and i must admit im impressed of how simple it is and yet top stuf. Not so good for 'lazy' players who just sit and wait for the jack daniels bourbon to mature.
play once: 9/10
play twice: definetely worth it
