Poll Question:
Strongest level 4 Order creature?

Which of the level 4 Order creatures do you believe is the strongest one?

I have to say that I that the Evil Sorceress is stronger than the others. Despite having only 100 hp, those spells (Implosion is DA BOMB!) are a much better weapon than Titans sword or the Dragon golems sharp teethes. I mostly take the Dragon Golems when playing the Academy, but they seem terribly inferior to the Evil Sorceress.

I think the sorceress is the most powerful, not merely because of her spells, but also the ability to teleport and thus either assault weaker enemies at once, or evade stronger foes.

But frankly, it is not a fair comparison. I don't know what the growth of sorceresses is, but I think it is, or should be, smaller than the growth of titans and dragon golems (2). This should be the case with other expansion creatures, and I think it is, since they can only be recruited from external dwellings and those have their growth cut by default (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

H4 perspective

I take it this is about H5, since I don't know of any Evil Sorceresses, but the topic interested me. In the H4 campaign I am constructing, at one point I have my 3 main, very powerful Nature heroes going alone - they have no town, and by the time they each meet their first enemy, they have "summoned" very few creatures.

The first town they come up against has respectively 8 behemoths, 7 champions and 6 black dragons, plus a hero and whatever sundry troops that have been bought. All my heroes can summon phoenixes, mantises and dragons, but none can survive against the black dragons unless they are inside the castle (having captured it while the enemy is out shopping). At the moment, I'm still experimenting with either boosting the hero who is most likely to meet the b. dragons or reducing the number, but I have no doubt about which creature is the strongest.

There would be no point in putting my hero in the back row, because b.d's kill 2 rows (NB no town means no immortality potion). When I say my heroes are powerful, I mean they have considerable combat and tactics skills as well as magic, but that's not enough against b.d's.

Give one of your heroes lev 5 life magic and allow them to ressurect fallen heroes.  I am assuming that if you lose your heroes, the mission fails.

I have 3 heroes in this scenario. All built up their skill in the previous three scenarios, so they're all about level 27-29, but don't all have the same skills. It is just unfortunate that the hero who is most likely to encounter the dragons doesn't enough Life magic to have that skill. In fact, that was one of my first experiments: putting in half a dozen Life altars, but that wasn't enough to bring her up to Level 5. No doubt, if I went back and played the campaign from the start, it would turn out differently.

However, it seems to be quite playable as it is. It seems the enemy is reluctant to attack, so she either holes up in another town/castle until either one of the other heroes can help or simply waits till she can "grow" half a dozen hydras of her own - these, plus summon phoenix are quite sufficient.

I only mentioned the point to show that Black Dragons are more dangerous than most other L4 creatures because they are fast enough to attack in the first round and can't be slowed, blinded or otherwise hindered by magic.

I Vote for Titans!

Even though Evil Sorceresses are powerful with their spells & transport ability, you need a lot of them to do major damage … and they are really hard to get. In addition, they are really weak in hit points. If a Hero has GM Magic Resistance, the ES is not much use but in contrast, the Mighty Titan can keep on successfully throwing deadly lightning bolts at the same Hero. Thus, in my opinion, Titans are more powerful and useful than Evil Sorceresses.

The Dragon Golem is an okay tank but not nearly as powerful as the Titan. They are pretty slow and takes two turns to get across the battlefield. In those two turns, your stack of Titans can get in two shots and probably take out quite a number of enemy creatures, while the DG is still lumbering across the battlefield.

My vote goes to the Titan in both cases.

Well, Order is not my town, but in my eyes, Titan is the best.
Evil Sorceress is good with teleport and Spellbook, but she has low hp-s, and she isn't an in-town creature. Dragon Golem has great ablities, and it is mechanikal, so it is immune for a lot of things. And it has good damage, too. However, Titan's good health, the normal attack ability, chaos ward and that he is the only lvl4 shooter, makes him the best Order unit for me.

If I could choose between the three of them i would go for Evil Sorceress, because they have a strong implosion spell and some other usefull spells.
Titans would be number two because they are ranged and quite good.
I dont like the dragon golem because it is a big creature which is hard to manevour around on battlefield because it cannot fly.

Two New Questions

The problem with all the large, non-flying creatures like the dragon golem and hydra is that they have great difficulty in getting throught castle gates if any of your other army members are near.

Yes, this is a big problem.  That's why hydra isn't enough effective in siege. Evil sorceress is very good, I said, but she isn't an in-town creature. This is the only (and the greatest) problem with her.

The titan.(the evil sorceress is dead meat against a black dragon, the titan on the other hand is one of the creatures who can stand a slim chance against them)

I voted for Titans because they are the most universal. ES's are useless against MR heroes and creatures while DG's are big walkers.

Hydras may be very effective in siege - just imagine what happens when you teleport blessed Hydras with Cat Reflexes and Vampiric Touch...
