ICTC: the stronghold

my second town, the orcish, and human, stronghold. this is for the ICTC

the Stronghold

thanks to genielord for this logo!

aka: free cities of the east, the orcs
country: the unknown east
capital: there 2 capitals, Partogurg is the religious capital, Movcos is the industrial capital
colours: ice white and steel grey
worship: slyath, the ice lord
battlecry: for the motherland and for slyath
motto: Power to the people
actual motto: power to the people in power
core philosophy: let your genius be unleashed.
key symbols: a cog wheel, a dragon maded out of gears, a musket, a blue star
allies: nercopolis, darkelves
nuetral: inferno
eneimes: haven, academy, sylvan, fortress
archemeies: the stampede

the orcs, after rebelling against the falcon empire and their wizard masters, headed east, towards the free cities. when they reached them, they found the population had dropped dramatically after everyone else had moved to warmer climates. with very little food in the cities, the people had starve. the orcs, begin natural hunters, helped them. as a result, the union of the free citiers and the orcs was formed.

the free cities is a hive of creativity. with enough metal and coal to last a life time, all manner of inventors came up with new ideas. orcs where incredible good with their hands and so were invalueable to their free city allies. there are also a huge amount of orcs, so they form the foot soldiers, whilst the remaining humans man the machines.
the free cities create a great many inventions, from cannons to springloaded pikes to collosal dragons, fashioned into the shape of their god, Slyath, lord of the ice. these people take everthing to the extreme. the examples of these are:

mining- once the free citiers found out they were sitting on a gold mine (so to speak) of natural resource, they have built the most extensive network of mines in history, purely through greed. they have build inventions to extract the ore quicker and purify it faster.

engineering- the free citiers invented steam and clockwork, now pratically everything is run on steam anc clockwork, from filing to food production, to town defences, to religious services. the free citiers will probably carry on making new and crazier inventions until they blow themselves up.

discpline- the posting of commissars to regiments was the hallmark of the discpline and devotion to Slyath. the troops now never back down from a fight, knowing that the commissars will be behind them to shoot them if they run. not that they would run, of course, because they are so dedicated to their cause.

the internal organisation of the stronghold is compremised of several organisations and companies, whose representatives all have a seat on the city council. for this reason, so cities have thousands of seats on the council, or alternatively just have six, for the terrible six. the leader of the city is whosever's company is most powerful at that time, so leaders vary enormously. this system applies to who is running the country as well, called the Tzar. the current Tzar is Ivan the prosperious, as he has made massive gains over the past three years.

the terrible six are the six major companies that, pretty much, run monopolies on different feilds of industry.
hardice inc- a organisation that has bought into the church of Slyath, and currently runs the religious system.
Gearblade Ltd- the company who is reponisble for supplying the armies weapons and some troops.
Steamburst & co. - the company who create some of the most powerful steam creations for military or economic use.
Drilldust - the organisation who manages the mining of the freecities, and are probably the most economical.
Winterwrit & sons- a company who manages the magistration of the freecities, and who watch the stock markets.
Centralion - an conglomerate of the basic services for the cities, including doctors, cooks, decorators and many other.
competion between the terrible six used to decend into fist fights in the streets, but now they are fighting for a common cause, to get more land and expand!

life for a worker in the stronghold is quiet brutal, at the best of times. crimes in the stronghold are often corperate ones, often involving those who commit copy write, plagerism, theft and smuggling going up against the wall for the firing squad. companies often employ hired muscle to beat up trade unionists and public protesters about human rights, sometimes along with rivals. racketeering is common, not a day goes by without a thug beating up some one to get money off them, and organised crime is rife through the cities.

for the boyar class, however, its just as brutal, but in a different way. the boyars, company executives and others constantly compete with each other for more money. from their luxurious palaces, treasure rooms and harems, boyars are constantly plotting about what move to make next. they often read business newspapers, but prefer to get the information through spies. no boyar is above doing things illegally, so smuggling rackets often stem from a well known boyar. they would always cover their tracks to make sure that no-one knows.

basically, in the stronghold, there is no such thing as a honest living.

their hero is a boyar. the boyar are the most wealth industrialists in the city. they often come with the best gadgets as well. they will indrustialise just about any resource site. boyars are as greedy as they are ruthless, betraying friends and family for profit. they epitimise the cruel world of the market, if you can't keep up, you are set upon and devoured.

they look similar to the Doge in Rise of legends

ghost: ethereal

please note: if this gets in the game, it will probably be the most expensive faction in the game, outstriping dungeon!

history

48ysd: Founding of the Free Cities of the East. Emperor Brian Falcon gives absolute power to the Church of the Dragon of Light. The Human kingdom is renamed "Holy Falcon Empire". Dissent grows among many citizens who resent being forced to abandon their faith in Sylath. Many will leave the Empire's territory to found the Free Cities of the East.

54ysd: the freecitiers finally reach the land which they can call their own, the ice tundra of the east. they create the first of the cities there, Partogurg, and there they live.

58ysd: after increased rationing, the food finally wears out. the people the the free cities starve. any food that is found is immediately set upon and eaten. some of the poeple turn to cannibalism to stay alive

62ysd: a vision comes to a young boy, Orsov. he claims that there is a land of food to the south, were game and greenery is plentyfull. many people listen to this boy, and about 90% of the population follow him. those who remained behind saw orsov and those who followed him as heretics and blasphemers.

65ysd: a magician named Moscov decided that those left should be frozen in ice so that they wouldn't starve any more. however, as well as the sacrifice of the spellcaster, this spell required great mana sacrifice. all of the free citiers, desperate for this to succeed, pored all the mana they had into this spell. moscov, in a similar style to Sar-elam, sacrificed himself to make this happen. from then on, Moscov was thought of as the saviour of the free cities.

many years passed.

467-504ysd: the orc crusades.Orcish rebellion in the Seven Cities, which spreads to Haven. Rejecting their masters and the Dragon Gods, the Orcs declare themselves free. In the Falcon Empire, Crusades are declared against the Orcs – attempts to subjugate them and convert them back to dragon worship. The fighting is brutal, and the Orcs are relentlessly driven back. Eventually, the unrepentant survivors flee wherever they can, including the deserts of the south, the steppes of the north-east and the Barrier Islands of the east. the orcs from the steppes smashed through the golden plains, killing many ogres. the ogres swore their vengence.

507ysd: the orcs finally reach the free cities. they find its populous frozen. the orcs also find, oddly enough, that the tundra is now teaming with life. they hunt for a few days, then decide to try and break the ice.

508ysd: the orcs manage to melt the ice over the free citiers. the free citiers are offered food, which is prompty eaten. when they find the tundra teaming with life, the free citiers rejoice, saying that the orcs freed them at the right time. they make a friendship with them, allowing them into their cities.

509ysd: the reinvigoration. the free cities are cleaned and brought back to life with the joint effort of orcs and free citiers.

511ysd: the discovery of the ore. a hunting group find an old ore mine, with aparently a thick stream. on closer inspection, they find the mine was abandoned. they preceed to mine it to find that the seam is prosperous and full of gems, crystals, all the resources they need and much much more.

513ysd: the invention of steam power. a inventor called Leopard Da Vinclank created a small toy for his grandson. poeple took an interest in da vinclank invention. a man called Macheniloc invests in the invention.

514ysd: the discovery of black powder. an unfortunate experiment of a yound inventor called Ludmilla Kadoomica resulted in the discovery of a new substance, called by Kadoomica black powder. Kadoomica, disabled for the rest of her life, went onto further experiments and found an exact repeice for it, along with its qualities (much to her distaste) in warfare.

515ysd: Da Vinclanks invention is a massive sucess, and people being to use it industrially. Da Vinclank died a happy man, believing that he had helped his people for the better.

516ysd: the first musket invented, by the black powder inventor, Kadoomica. this was shown to the commander of the armed forces, Magnus  oskanmark, who immediately created a regiment of troops, to use this weapon, called the musketeers.

517ysd: the invention of clockwork. an orc called Michallov created a small toy with a clockwork spring. people took an interest in this invention. Macheniloc funded Michallovs invention. Michallov could only make small devices, however, they delievered impressive results.

518ysd: Oskanmark, a savant genius, it was found, created the clockwork pike. the pike orcs underneath his command found this weapon marvelous, and were able to fight with more efficency.

523ysd: the small company, Ashan frost, managed to become the most powerful influence in the freecities. ashan frost was now a massive multi-industrial firm that had managed to take over the supply wagons to the cities. Ashan frost managed to by get their hands on almost everything.

525ysd: Ashan frost crashes. almost all shares in it are reduced to nothing. its branch companies, drilldust and hard ice inc, managed, with the money saved, to buy the majority of the mines and the Slyath church. companies like Steamburst, Gearblade, centrallion and winterwrit managed to take the former feilds of Ashan frost.

545ysd: the invention of the warwalker. originally called the steam builder, to built the free cities more effeicently by the inventor Jost Kirokov. however, an orc engineer, named Hans Varinic, suggested that they could also be used in warfare. however they didn't perform well until Indira Gotlendi put her own invention, the reloading cannon, ontop of it. all three are remembered, in steamburst inc, as heroes.

546ysd: plans begin for constructing more exuberant buildings around the cities, as now they are becoming richer. the first iron blanket is constructed.

555ysd: the stronghold makes contact with the dark elves. dark elven explorers stumble onto one of the mineshafts of the free cities. after some talks, the dark elves decide that the mines belong to the free cities, just as long as they don't venture into the darkelves territory.

564ysd: the lunar esciples. the orcs find the first taints of their blood beginning to show again. the free citiers help the orcs regain control. the ones to regain control first help the others rest control of their blood hunger. hunt down and execute those who have sucomed to the blood madness. these orcs are known as commisars.

616ysd: a inventor called Boris Yaltochev drew sketches of two creations, one was a huge mechanical dragon, the other was designs for a smaller bomb that could be dropped from the dragon. Steamburst & co., who was the employer of Boris, try and sell his ideas to Gearblade inc at a greatly exaggerated price.

modern ages

771ysd: the stronghold establishs contact with the necromancers. the nercomancers saw the stronghold as potential allies and bargained with them. the nercomancers also ask the stronghold to send troops during the war of the broken staff. this request was declined.

951ysd: the free cities begin their much atisipated invasion of the lush golden plains, and to eradicate the traitor who abandoned Slyath.

956ysd: the battle of screamers pass. the ogres get the first taste of how the orcs and the free citiers have changed. from the primitive savages and the weaklings the the cold north, the orcs and the free citiers had turned into disciplined, fanatical troops of unbelievable power. many ogres fall too the springloaded pikes, the muskets and the other weapons sported by the stronghold. that day, the ogres lose screamers pass. the stronghold were disgusted about the fact that the ogres took to worshiping a two headed feathered snake god, rather than Slyath, lord of the ice, they vowed to purge them from the face of Ashan, along with all the other heathen races.

basically, i pictured Slyath as this unpredicable schemer who wants his bid at dominance. he had a huge complicated plan that only he can see the outcome. so he is working through two factions that are, essencally, the same race.
the stampede faction are the freecitiers who left, and got changed by Slyath to become the ogres. of the two, they are the good guys, as they have keeped being friends with alot of the other factions, which Slyath planned them to do (big converluted plot). they are like slyath's good side.
the stronghold faction are the freecitiers who didn't leave, and allied with the orcs, who had rebeled against the academy. they are the evil guys, as they want to conquer the world and turn it into the land of ice and snow. they are like Slyaths evil side.
see, two sides of the same coin.

i was asking Card Ximinez, dougal. i also know your kind of help, and it usually involves something along the lines of "your stronghold gets smashed to peices and the settlement take over the world!" even if you don't do that, you'll probably say something like the stronghold confess their sins to elrath, or something that defies the basic principle of the stronghold.

its just how the stronghold army works! they are so dedicated to their cause, that renegades are killed almost instantly by their friends, their superiors, their underlings, or, if their all dead, they would kamikaze and take a sword through their chest.

Oops.
Not a grammer mistake, a typing mistake.

I edited it.
And I did a little change.

It looks much better now.
