i know
basically, what i thought was that there should be a race that can't use magic (orcs) and a race who choses not to (free cities), and see how the two develop if they have the right stuff.
these guys worship the dragon of air and creativity, Slyath. so their imaginations have run riot, allowing them to create all manner of crazy inventions that don't require magic to function. they basically are the dark academy, only not using magic.

when i meant dark academy, i was thinking of a race that thinks the world is just something to do. academy treats the world as a puzzle to solve, the stronghold sees it as a way of making money. they are capitalist, basically, with a similar veiw to other systems of government and such in a very macarthyist style of thinking (your not like us, your bad, we don't want you so we are going to get rid of you).

The history & story is cool.
That is what I have been trying to tell people.
Get into it, they wll get a good score.
You worked hard on it Bixie but i have two problems.
One you made your creatures way too strong.
Not just the stats but thier desription for thier level.
Racial skills.
These creatures would be strong enough to take any resources that you dont even need a skill like this.
I think you need to work on that.
Basically working on your balance.

by the way, i've hyped up all the costs, so the balancing issue and racial skill issue shouldn't be a problem (100g for a lvl1 unit, OMFG!!!!!)

The Stronghold is out of ICTC2 contest.
It was edited in the 3th of March.
It's forbidden to edit your faction after the 28th of Febuary.
You got IM about it and it is written in the rules of the contest.

There are some parts here that ring false. From the academy history we get this: human criminals+demon blood=monstrous orcs. Where did you ever gather that they are kind-hearted geniouses? You also mention an industrial revolution, engineering and a company-run faction something that is completely out of the setting and would take several centuries to ever happen IF the right coincidences/prerequisites took place. Even the freezing of the people in the east cities sounds weak. Also you cannot present Sylath the way you want if he is not described as such in the storyline. Period.
The history is too long and filled with details that are of no practical use. Your units are a little stronger than others though tampered with lower growth, some with a way too advanced concept and some of their abilities as well as skill abilities are stuff I know but with another name. The similarities are too many but at least there are some completely new. Starving the enemies from resources is an interesting idea. For your buildings I can only say that it requires so much ore that the faction would be unplayable. If you feel your units are strong you tweak them, you don't make them unavailable. The bore hole is TOO cheap, iron blanket is like fortifications and the grail has no description.
Final grade 48%
Maybe I'm preoccupied with the concept but the faction has quite a few shortcomings anyway. As I told you in the other faction, there are better ways to be original!

For me, one of only two mid-range factions in terms of final mark, the other being the Cavern.
Final mark: 65%, Good, 7th place
Favourite creature: Halberdier
`Personal` mark: Poor / Mediocre, 11th place
