Legends of the Ancients
The brand new site of Legends of the Ancients opens on Celestial Heavens. LotA is an upcoming campaign for Heroes of Might and Magic V created by Marzhin, with artwork by Jean-Mathias Xavier. The story takes place in Axeoth and features well-known characters such as Lysander, Solmyr and Emilia Nighthaven.
"Raising from the ranks of the demonic invaders known as the Kreegans, Malustar has become the new Demon King. Once a minority in the kingdom of Nekross, the Kreegans are now ready to claim this land as their own. In the meantime, in the south, a quarrel between the kingdoms of Great Arcan and Palaedra threatens to involve the whole region into war..."
Book 1 of 4 should be released in February. The site includes an introduction of the main characters, a summary of the plot and a desktop wallpaper. Screenshots will become available at a later date. Marzhin is looking for some help to complete his campaign. Send him a PM if you'd like to contribute.

Quote: Chapter 1 will follow the civil war raging (again) in Nekros, where Malustar, self-proclaimed demon king, tries to seize power from Gauldoth and his necromancers. In the meantime, Great Arcan and Palaedra are having some border incidents, which may very well turn into war...
Chapter 2 will take you to Aranorn, where you'll witness the escape and the following "adventures" of the traitor, Lord Harke, trying to redeem himself for his past crimes...
Chapter 3 will take place in Hanndl's Grasp (Chedian, Framon...) where the forgotten prince of a forgotten world will meet his fate, fight thousand terrors and become a true hero.
Chapter 4 will show the power struggle between the immortal king of Channon, Mysterio the Magnificient, and the mysterious magister Alamar...
C1: Well, Gauldoth is a strong charismatic leader and should easily be able to destroy such a revolt (more undead minions). Maybe the kreegans flee to Great Arcan?
C2: Sounds good, love to play such a campaign (only flaw is that Sylvan is so weak).
C3: I don't get what the campaign is about, but a totally fantasy campaign seems okay as long as it is good and challenging.
C4: This really confuses me. I somewhere heard (I think it was on MMportals) that it is official that Baron von Tarkin (my favourite) was the winner of WoW so this campaign has to take place in Quassar. Alamar? Shouldn't he be a Warlock king (and very old)?

Is anybody else playing this?
I’ve just finished part 1 of Book 1 and I am impressed. True, the scenarios are generic and the AI is non-existent as always, but there are more good points than bad ones. The adventure maps are well-executed while the story is a nostalgic crossover featuring Solmyr, Armageddon’s Blade and Kreegan spaceships. However, most of all I enjoyed the customization; the graphics look professional and I simply loved the H3 Inferno theme!

It's working fine and was enjoyable up to Emila's appearance. I did not have time to continue though. I can't help but feel sorry for chain lightning becoming obsolete for anyone but a warlock or necromancer.. Solmyr can't do much.

I think it's perhaps the best campaign for Heroes V we've seen so far. Better story than the original campaigns, great scenarios, brilliant custom graphics, and best of all, it's set in the old Might and Magic world, with an unexpected return of many old heroes (through replacement of the current ones). My only concern is the serious lag in map 3. Can't wait for the episode set in Chedian.

I agree , but do your best to level him up and get him some high level spells - he'll need them in map 1 of part 2!

I planned to do that regardless In primary characters I always visit adventure locations and learn the available spells before progressing to the next map. A habit I've developed since H3

Played it a bit and liked it so far. I'll continue it tomorrow so far i have liked the old H3 elements in it. There will be old heroes back but are there any creature modifications in this campaign?

Finished it and it was pretty good Now if only the AI could offer some challenge...Anyway good graphics, interesting plot and well designed maps. Could do with a boss at the last mission
Waiting for the sylvan campaign on book 2, have not heard the preserve theme for a while! Out of curiosity what is the theme in the last mission?

this is my opinion -Overall great, story is amazing too.better then the normal heroes 5 one in every strength except climaxs. you really didnt add any interesting betrayels (Maybe i should have seen it coming but i really never even guessed shadya was biara!)and some of the levels are really nicely done and well scripted. im surprised at the "special" towns too. I cant believe nival never used that feature!Campaigns were challenging too. even on normal but ive heard hard isnt a huge leap in difficulty though.
Level 1 -Normalish rush. time limit is good. gives the enemy enough time to recapture towns if you want and is a very nice map
level 2- i only found this hard because i somehow missed the enemys haven town and they ended up counterattacking with tough heroes. nontheless its just a waiting game near the end. should script premade heroes to teleport in next to your town every month or so maybe?and the quests were nice too.
level 3- Very tough early. its an original level in that you have to get an enemy hero to chase you (if the AI was better this level would never have been possible) but once you figure it out you can do it.Demon attack was very interesting too. however int he end the enemy hero just let me build up and ended up getting destroyed by lysander.
level 4- hard time here. Best spellcaster challenge ive had since original Homm5 with the warlock campagin mission 3. ive had times were i had less then 10 golems and gargoyles but i won the haven heroes. (Btw it seems the AI really does just turtle a lot. after 3 months or so it attacked me even when it was suicide). The quests were interesting. but if the one with the endless bag of gold ,doesnt actually take it its a peace of cake to finish the adventerurs inn quest, vampire hunters one was just annoying with all the going around. still that was the climatic bit with all the hard battles. Last battle is TOUGH the only way i stood a chance was to get reinforcements i never picked up from the place you started (there were like 280 gargoyles there too.) Counterspell is a toughie to deal with especially if you have no haste spells.
level 5- initial heroes you fight can be a challenge if you didnt build up maulstar properly (you can get the ultimate but my opinion would be -Dont bother go for a more dark magic/destructive crossover since its harder to mess that up)basically you just have to replay it to deal with the incoming hero because you need to build up. or let ebora take of it (hell she even has EMPATHY! where in gods name did she get that)she always has a bigger army and is high level . oh and if you have scholar its a cheap source of some spells. especially town portal
level 6. Ebora is too powerful period. the enemy is lucky she never learned summon pheonix because she was summoning 78 elementals per cast. i mean the stats are amazing. Skills could be better picked. but i definatly would rather have ignite that she somehow got then anything else destructive has to offer.
Basically the level is a rush with maulstar to gather the tent masters. basically you only need one keymaster as such but you have to find it yourself. ebora should go kill pirates. (/cry this is why we have global warming)or vica versa. not too challenging considering its the sixth level but definatly interesting. though you could have made it more of a treasure hunt. you could probably end up guessing where you want to go if you happen to stumble upon it. More relevent keymaster tents would be in order. and maybe a sphinx that gives you an artifact that you need before you can pass?

I did not find them particularly challenging. Only the mission with Emilia where you could have Lysander lose to the garrisson until you get stronger, the fifth mission's final boss which could easily be faced if you just went to your town's castle and the sixth in that you have no idea where the enemy comes from. I had to backtrack a few times while the AI was gathering army and I did not even get to use Ebora, Malustar was enough.
At some point I faced an overly superior army but puppeting his manticores and mass confusing him made it pretty easy - the trick was not losing army. Did I mention that I had found a tome of light and therefore resurrection?
All the other missions was trudging around and watching the AI turtle or move around wasting my time. It's sad, even the H3 AI could have performed better because it wasn't such a chicken when it faced a powerful hero.

yeah . im no expert. a few original heroes 5 missions were toguher. but these were sometimes by no means easy . level 3 is definatly the hardest. but funnily enough you can just let the demons smash themselves against purple so its not really that much of a challenge really. Lysander is tricky but you just have to lurk in the garrison in normal at worst

Uhh...A while before the two months passed Lysander stopped being hostile due to a scripted event and that's around the time the demons arrived. Lysander was moving around without purpose in the other side of the map when they attacked. Luckily I had expert light, dark and summoning that helped a lot.
And yes if I had to pick the hardest this mission certainly qualifies.

Yeah thats the beuty of it. they were afraid of the garrison+solmyr so badly they just ran away for several weeks while i builded up and eventually ran into lysander. getting crushed.
Didnt really want that to happen. just wanted to build-up

Lol Lysander attacked the garrison very soon but I soon discovered that if I had a hero on the garisson only his army would appear and I'd lose. Solmyr just stayed on the sanctuary and Emila in town.

dont be so sure. Theyre learning from the mistakes of making level 1-2 5 (after you play it once) and 6 (really easy) too easy . theyre making a improved "hard" book one and a second book will probably be very tough on easy
