HOMM Board Game Competition
People of HC come one and all to create a HOMM board game that will leave the makers of Monopoly and Ice Pirates of Harbour Grace in awe. It's a simple competition, with simple rules, and I am confident {*cough*} that with the talent just lying around this place, the entries will be mindboggling and heaps of fun
What is a board game
If you are unsure you can run a concept by me. The game doesn't necessarily have to have a 'board'. Any game that can be played at a table with friends is fine - no computers though!
If you want to do some game research I am sure you are all familiar with Board Game Geeks
Now:
The Prize
The winner will recieve a $40 Amazon Gift Certificate
Important Dates
Competition has already started and will run until the 5th May 2007, or until there are at least 6 legitimate and worthy entries {determined to be so by me}.
Limit of Entries
Each contestant may enter up to 3 different and distinct games. If an entry is too similar to a previous one, I will notify that person to change their entry via HCM. Once again this is up to my judgement and no correspondence will be entered into
Note - In a way that means that you are better off posting sooner to 'claim' your concept.
Posting Entries
I will keep this thread as a feedback thread, where people can make comments or offer suggestions. I'll also start an Entry thread for you to post your entries. You can start with a basic concept and then edit later.
YOUR ENTRY The more visual and verbal descriptions you give the better chance your entry has of winning. It'd be cool if you actually made the game and posted a pic too.
Judgement
I will select the top 3 entries {finalists}
These entries will be showcased and all members will have the opportunity to vote ONCE to me via HCM.
The winner will be the game that recieves the most votes.
NOTE: This hasn't as yet been officially approved by Val but I am impulsive. If he disapproves and is not content just to let the torturer whip me with wet vermicelli then... we will deal with that when it happens
Post all questions, comments and feedback here please thanks
ENTRY THREAD here
OK, The Entries that have come in are Awesome We just need more of them. The deadline has been extended to the 5th May.
Contest Closed Top 3 will be announced soon, Thanks for the participation and creative flair

I mean no PC
I mean a real life game where you touch things and look across the table from someone and eat and drink and be merry
Check out the link for game board geeks at the top.
It can be cards {not like the one already out there}, or dice, or whatever, just not PC
It should be based on the HOMM game though - any of them from I to V, or a conglomeration based on the world.
The sky's the limit

Great idea!
Not sure I will have the time to participate in this, but just one question. Does the board game need to be balance tested, and actually working?
I've made a dozen or so board- or cardgames in the past, and usually they initially have balance issues, in that there are quirks that can be exploited when found, and can give a player an unfair edge over other players. Lots of test playing and adapting the rules usually balance the game out, but I doubt I'll have time to get an actually working game ready on time... Do have an idea or two already though

Well, to be honest as I won't actually get to play the game {unless you wonderful people want to ship it to me }, so any minorbalance issues will probably slip through undetected.
You can enter a concept, or you can build the game. The best entries {3} will go into the finals. Obviously the more detail you give, the better your chances.
You have at least a month Niddy, the competition doessn't close until the 1st March or there are 10 entries... I hope you enter something
I hope you all do

I was quite surprised when I read william's post as I basically had the same idea for a monopoly game with creature dwellings. Well, except in mine there would not be money, just creatures...Hm maybe I will have another idea

You can still use the monopoly base, as long as the game itself is significantly different
Can't wait to see you idea!

A prototype of my board game is about 80% done. With some luck I should be able to finish it next weekend.
All of the games that I made before can be printed out, and glued onto cardboard so you can actually play them. This game (even though there'll be a lot of cutting and glueing ) will be no different. Coins, sea shells, plastic soldiers, and other stuff like that always come in handy too if you don't want to spend an afternoon cutting paper...
I can already give away it will most probably have a very 'heroes like' feeling, during play. Surprisingly, I've been able to incorporate some of the core dynamics of Heroes into the game, without making it overly complex.
Balancing issues should be limited to the combat part of the game. Still, if I present my prototype, please do not consider it as a working game yet. As with any game, it will need lots and lots of testing!
EDIT: *Bump* I'm even quite pleased with what MS Word did with my document when it converted it to HTML

YES
Excellent - post it in the Entry Thread {the link is in my first post}
It's still open, I have just edited the main entry and reduced the number of entries necessary to 6 {it was 10}.
So as soon as there are 6 legitate entries, the winner will be chosen and the prize awarded
If you are going to make an entry - post here so that you won't be cut out of the fun - there can still be more than 6 but I don't want it to go on for all eternity...

I just had to comment on the quality of entries so far
And thank the contestants for the time they are investing - awesome truly.
I hope people continue to enter so that someone can be rewarded with a prize for their efforts {6 entries at least}
The ICTC2 is over now, so guys and gals, consider this!
Don't forget the HC Board game contest too...
Maybe I will do one just for fun if I get a chance
