A better one would be

Emo - I think that everyone hates me

Goth - Everyone hates me.

Well, nope, not really. Emos are more sombre then Goths. Emos wear striped shirts and tight jeans, and are often affiliated with "Wrist cutting" and although this is a stereotype I do speak to emos that do these things.

Also Emos = Emotional, if you are wondering about origin

Goths actually were a barbaric tribe in norse history (Visigoths etc) and there are many other terms used for these purposes

Yes, I think they give goths some bad stereotypes *Wrist cutting* and quite often they get us in trouble and like to ruin happy peoples feelings by talking about "My dad has cancer and he's dying" or "I have no family, i'm being caged"

Generally they can be ok to talk to, but stay away when they are depressed. A good thing about emos is that they can be intelligent and sometimes quite fun to be around, so see what kind of emo you are dealing with first.

Do what you want & it will never matter what they think or how they feel about them.

If they want to get 100 earings on thier body, they dont care what others think.
If they want to be freaks, they dont care how you feel.
If they want to take degrading pics doing stuff with thier pets.
They dont care .

What we think is weird they think is normal.
It depends on what normal is.
What is normal?

Who really knows lol.

That's a good way to look at it.

I can't stand people that live by lables and then judge others by slapping lables on other's as well. It's a deadly disease, this labeling business. Can't we all just...have a couple of shots and sing some songs?

I'm sticking with my opinion. I didn't bring up the fact that I believe anyone that calls themselves goth, punk, or emo call themselves that mainly because that's what other people would see them as. The origin of emo was created by poor, lonely internet losers that had nothing else to do but find a word for people who are depressed and listen to depressing boy bands. Emo then fused with hair, make-up and clothes, which I think in fact, is a very nice style. Now, take this for example...

Is anyone wearing tight fitting pants, chekered vans, has long black hair that covers half their face, has a lip ring, and wears a "Fall out Boy" shirt automatically evil? You were thinking yes. I know it, and that only signals how moronic society has become, to lable people by a certain dress code.

Now, I feel that it's better to lable people as rebels than to lable them as punk, because nowadays, Green day and My Chemical Romance is considered punk. Punk died the day that Joey Ramone left this earth, and now that I think about it, probably earlier than that. What really goes on in the terms of punk is the music, the wonderful music, and people like Avril Lavigne makes the still-alive punk rockers want to hurl up their livers. The so called "punk" Music of today...purely and simply sucks big time. The concept of anarchy and rebellion have gone from "I'm not afraid of life" to "I wear a tie and have 18 pairs of converse so I must be a punk rocker."

Sigh. It's so sad. The sub-culture of rockers and punk rockers in general is falling apart. Suddenly, people are calling Nickleback rock and roll. Excuse me as I shudder. People are walking the streets wearing ACDC shirts when only 90% of them can name one song other than "Back in Black." People still think that Led Zeppelin is a person, and then dare to call themselves "rockers."

To sum up my rant in more simple terms, the sub-cultures of today are mostly just bogus teenagers grouping together to have some sort of safety in numbers. Most of them don't truly know what they stand for but as long as they can stay protected by the lable, then they are comfortable. In my opinion, that only proves weakness.

But Yan, if you would like some true "Gothic" music, I will gladly give you some tips of where to look. You probably won't find the true history of "goth" in a slipknot album.

You should like music that sounds right, I see more and more people listening alternative music more than charts-music just because they want to BE alternative, I think they need to get an own opinion and life.

Not all chart-breaking hits are stupid, and not all alternative crap is good.

That's completely understandable. I'm not saying that all music created after the 90s is crap. I'm just saying that the lables given to them are incorrect and moronic at times.

And I completely agree with you on the comment about listening to what music sounds right. That's a very good point.

And how madly I wished that Hypocrites didn't exist.

It's just frustrating at times. And yeah, I definately agree with you on the terms that people dislike what they don't understand. I just read a poem by Emily Dickinson about that exact subject..

It's a pathetic world.

Slipknot - Not goth

Sisters or mercy - Goth

I would happily take a look at any music you would like to offer, Ruby. I respect everyone elses opinions as much as my own, I also know it is a sad day when ou subcultures crumble around our feet.

I listen to industrial metal such as rammstein, because it sounds good. They may not be goth, but they are one of the very few bands left that are actually different to everyone else. Some old bands I listen to are really good sounding. That's because they did it for the music, and not money, or fame. Todays society orbits around what the television and internet throw at us. Subcultures these days revolve around the information (True or not) that is presented to us.

Goth is very hard to try and describe, if you can tell me your views on it ruby It would help significantly in this thread.

Obviously, everyone does that. Even subconciously (Those people look dangerous, I will cross the road instead). This is because it is in us, we did this to survive. It's in human nature to do that.

You know...this is where the problem of labeling begins. Because you find yourself calling yourself Goth, you have to point out that one of the bands you listen to isn't in fact Goth. If you would just stick to calling yourself a person, you could listen to any band you wanted and not have to defend yourself!

See, I can listen to Enya and Skinny Puppy and have no guilty aftertaste.

The reason that I like the bands I like is because:

a) They love, cherish, and honor the word "music."
b) They play/sing for the right reasons.
c) They inspire me positively.
d) They're not completely tonedeaf.

One of the only "true" gothic bands I have found is the band Malice Mizer, and I'm sure you J-Rockers have heard of it before. They play instruments of the time, including beautiful violin and cello solos, and the lyrics are deep, not screaming with anger and blood and violence, but just sweet, dark...tempting lyrics. That's what it's about. Also try looking up music from the times of early Romanticism, and you will find real gothic chamber music, none of that silly Cradle of filth stuff that's smelling up the room.

Rammstein is industrial I believe and many of my friends listen to them. I find their music to give me energy, and the style they use is different.

I actually liked skinny puppy's version of "Tainted love". It is my favorite one of theirs.

If you don't already listen to rammstein, do try "Mein teil". They use the violin in that song, very effective. Also notable is "Siouxie and the banshees" You may have heard of them, they are really quite good.

I think this thread is about sub-cultures, not goths and music. So lets try and stay on track with the facts, when possible

That sounds rather reasonable.

But I will add that I do listen to Rammstein, and my favorite song happens to be Seeman.
Just to make sure that gets addded in there.

Heehee, very good.

I am hoping that other people from other sub-cultures will come here and give us the truth about what it is they do. We can only assume safely for so long, and in the future society may be influenced greatly by sub-cultures. It is my imagining that presidency could do a lot better if they reached out to these groups. Would you vote for bush if suddenly he started treating goths/etc with a lot more respect? Probably not, lmao. But you can see what I'm getting at, yes?

Sub-cultures may change the future. Think about this next time you yell out the window at someone wearing black, because all we do is laugh at what we try to hear.

You live in sweden? What is the societies idea of goth? Are you being treated differently to other countries?

Sorry about the 20 questions Btw.
