List of Bugs


During combat:

- The game crashes when a battle is started.
- Demon Lords and Knights can use their attacks even if the enemy is behind castle walls, despite the fact that both are physical
- Shooters seem to aim at the feet/hooves of some creatures (cavaliers for example). Both the missile and the cinematographic camera hit the ground below the target.
- Naadir's speciality description mentions "Manes" instead of the proper "Ghosts".
- Dark Ritual is listed among the combat spells.
- When the camera zooms in on an attacking creature, creatures and obstacles nearby is often excluded (invisible). This looks especially odd if Grim Raiders are among these creatures.
- When a Fire Shield is resisted, you get a message:"magic resistance:frost breath failed"
- Catapults sometimes targets already destroyed walls.
- The AI can cast spells on Imperial Griffins that are off screen battlediving.
- Grim raiders attacks an empty square if the creature next to it dies from a melee strike of another creature.
- Conscripts have "Shield Bash" despite not having a shield.
- When Nightmare's fear triggers, the cinematic camera is centered behind the attacked creatures.
- The camera is sometimes badly placed when Titans summons lightning.
- Vampires drain half of their damage on 1hp clones from phantom forces.
- If you attack a small unit in a corner with Blackbear and paw strike triggers,it will move to the left or right by a tile but being adjacent to you it will still retaliate.
- When showing a cutscene during combat the camera does not center on the attacker and shows just a part of him.
- The game crashes occasionally when fighting a siege in quick combat.
- Casting firetrap near opponent and use blackbear riders to hurl them on a firetrap doesn't trigger the mines. Same for firewall.
- Confusion states that a part of the affected stack forgets to shoot.If you cast it on assasins althought they do a part of the damage you still get all of the poison damage.With 150 assasins and confusion without mastery you get damage of 75 assasins plus 150 poison.
- When you face someone in his town, his walls broken and your berserkers are in reach of enemy units behind moat they won't attack it.
- Just before imperial griffins get to play their image disappears from the ATB.
- When your opponent uses Phantom Forces on Phoenixes and you kill the Phantoms, the phantom Phoenixes revive invisible
- The creatures appear a short moment at a given place on the battle field (often right in front of the door) to receive the attack then reappear immediately in their legitimate place!
- The projectile hits its target on foot level.


Spells:

- Some Empowered spells - Fireball, Magic Missle, Ice Ring and Chain Lightning have bugged animations/timing
- Decay is supposedly an earth spell, but you never get the bonuses that your should get due to this
- Sometimes in summon creatures heroes not lose 75% of your movement anymore.
- Casting fireball sometimes causes graphical glitches.
- Resurrection works on Gargoyles
- If you puppet master a unit that has the rune of battle rage, and use the rune, the unit will not attack its own units.  It will still attack you and/or nothing (if none of your units were by it).

Skills:

- Necromancy seems to raise more than the description suggests (appears to be based on HP instead of numbers).
- Irresistible magic per level increases Elemental Chains damage, but has no description for it in the tooltip.
- Irresistible magic affects your own units.
- The attack and defense skills are written in lower case
- Swift gating only reduces the time your original units use for gating. The gated units still take as long to show up.
- Benediction is said to improve morale but doesn't.
- Description of Banshee Howl is not adjusted after gaining Howl of Terror.
- Howl of Terror says to "additionally dampen enemy morale by -6" but only additionally dampens it by -5.
- Deirdre increas only the Iniciative effect of Banshee Howl

Crazy AI:

- AI is very bad with area effect spells, sometimes targetting his own units needlessly. With Circle of Winter, it might even aim the center spot at a single-square unit when it's own units surround it.
- Sprites, whose default action is to cast Wasp Swarm, sometimes refuse to move when fighting undead, waiting constantly instead
- When the AI has Blood Maidens, it often lets it walk up and stand next to a shooter stack instead of attacking it, even if it would get killed before it's next turn by walkers.
- The AI heroes sometimes can't leave their towns.
- The AI sometimes explodes its Horned Overseers, even if there's noting or only friendly units next to it.
- The AI flees to early at some dificulties.
- The AI cast buffs when it could end the battle by attacking.
- AI using instant travel makes the turns last very long.
- AI does not flee on hard.

Adventure Map:

- The Dungeon symbol over mines and towns looks like a demon head
- Heroes sometimes stop moving. This appears to be linked to the fact that they gain some small amount of movement points as they move along.
- Garden if the Wee Folk only gives gold. No gems.
- Sometimes you can't click on objects on the map to get your hero to move towards them. Especially common in underground.
- Transferring from boat to empty boat is currently not possible.

Maps and Campaign

- Sometimes profiles become corrupted, meaning that one cannot continue the game from where one ended.
- Nicolai's name is spelled with an "y" in savegames.
- Sometimes you skip maps. People have reporting skipping to map 4 after map 2 and to map 5 after map 3 in the Inferno Campaign or map 2 to 4 in sylvan campign.(Partially fixed)
- In general, cutscenes have very little to do with actual circumstances.
- Starting bonus choices can vary quite a bit in power.
- Enemy heroes sometimes have a disproportionate hero level compared to their stats. (i.e despite being level 30-ish, they still have the same stats as a level 1 hero).



Others:

- Multiplayer in general seems very prone to crashes.
- In LAN games, if a computer player kills off another, the game is prone to freezing.
- When you use the RMG from the Single Player menu, it creates 2 player maps. These do not show up on the Single Player list, but you can play them under Multi Player hotseat.
- Maps, created via the RMG have not names
- Some people seem to loose the "skins" on different things after playing for a while.
- There's a rumor that tells you you can only buy one specific war machine in each town. (But you can buy 3!)
- "Moral" is often used instead of "Morale"
- Sometimes the load screen gets all messed up with lots of strange text appearing.
- When trying to dismiss a hero, the dialog box asks "Spare your hero". By choosing OK, you're in fact dismissing him.
- Some of the Weeks that are supposed to decrease growth actually increase it for level 7 creatures.
- Markal's speciality works on Necropolis troops, not Undeads. This means that Death Knights aren't guaranteed to join him.
- If you have all creature slots taken some of which occupied with the same creatures(say 2 stacks of druids) and some creatures decide to join you you are unable to combine armies to make room for the new creatures-if you do you can't accept the new stack. Trying to split the new troops so you can take a part of them crashes the game.
- The "U" hotkey for upg does not function.
- In hotseat you may see most players have red player written during their turns.(red player, red player1, red player2...)
- Moon weeks that regards mastery of spells (e.g. Week of Abjuration) does not work.
- The music doesn't change when it should, so it often plays wrong music on the different terrains
- Sometimes in a Necropolis the player is able to recruit Dwarves
- When creating a  map with the RMG, the players are not well balances (ex: the AI got four castles and the player got one.)
- The Yeti is not in the game!
- Boots of Levitation will make you stop before all movement is used up, if you want to go somewhere several days off.
- Instead of showing the construction screen one leaves simply the market (like the exit button indeed).

So we whined about Clan hall costing way to many gems! What do they do? They change the 20 gems to 20 crystal.. Thank you so much Nival... ! Its still to many , Nerf it down to 10 and say that second is 10 aswell... way more fair! IMO

I was wondering too... now the dwarves finally got Cheer thing, but i was playing dungeon and Have blood fury and lizard guys also got a cheer thing? Because i really don't remember them chering?

And how is those berzerkers seem to say when mark them? They do some kind of metallic sound like they are terminators or something...

Though the Bears got cool cheer. they Growl!

1) Now you can train up to 7 units per week with training ground and 20 with hall of heroes.

2) It no longer gives skellies but a different undead according to the unit killed. You can raise from skeletons to spectral dragons but there is a cap per week. Spellcasters give liches and power liches, dark raiders vampires, weak shooters skeleton archers etc. There is this dark energy points you get per lvl, lvl of necromancy and pillar of bones which you pay whenever you raise something. The points are wasted if you don't use them within the week and are replenished at the beginning of the next one. Every one of your hero draws from this so you it's better to use your main for harvesting. There are more clues about it in recent threads, look around.

Well it was mentioned deliberately on the changelog, so I believe it is fixed. If you wish to play the previous patch version, turning cinematic camera off also deals away with the crash problem.

Oh... so it was only a cinematic cam problem? Didn't realize that. I always have that off anyway so I guess that's why I never saw this bug.

By the way, I just installed 1.41 now and I don't have that readme (I have one from November 2006?). I used the ingame auto update to get it. Will we have these nice changes later?

Patch 1.41 was for multiplay and the gating crash. Patch 1.5 will come some day with the nice changes...

I'm a bit confused about the update. I have Heroes 5 with HoF. I have already applied the update to v2.1 (which also shows up in the HoF main screen). I just tried the auto-updater and got these results:

- The HoF auto-updater says my version is up to date
- The H5 auto-updater tries to download the update to v1.41

Do I need both updates, 2.1 and 1.41, or is this a bug in the auto-updater and my game is already completely patched?

if you only play hof then you only need 2.1 if you play both then you will need both

Just crashed with 1.41 - known bug?

I'm in the 4th scenario of the Haven Campaign, so really early on. But with lots of HOMM III exposure, things become clearer all the time. I just had some neutral group wanting to join me. There was no room in my army but I had two stacks of peasants. So I combined them, which gave me an empty slot. No luck pulling the new stack into it though. So I pressed shift and started moving the split slider way to the right. Crash!! Right back to the windows level. Well I guess Nival still has some miles to cover before things become as rock solid as HOMM III Complete.
