Might heroes are allways better than Magic heroes and it's useless to compare Crag Hack and Solmyr when they are really in diffrent league. I don't really play whit Magic heroes but Solmyr is good if you play whit Magic hero.

Also you can select Solmyr and use him as secondary hero for clearing mines etc. That way you might not get your fav hero but there are allways or often atleast some might heroes in Tavern. If there aren't any rules you can throw any kinda of ceap tricks like buying Death Knight (Isra) in day 1 and really give suprice to your enemy. (Not many people like when your Titans are guardet whit Legion of Skeletons )

Well anyways Might over Magic allways it's simple as that but when you compare heroes it's should be done Might vs Might and Magic vs Magic heroes.

I am a Tower fan. I started to play with Solmyr, & tought that he is the best.
Somewhat later realised that might heroes are better, if both sides have big army. Just +5% dmg with attack gives more,  than +10 mana with direct dmg spells&Knowledge- when some hundreds of lvl7 units are playing.
But, mass spells are more effective against bigger armies, so expert magic skills are ok, also for might heroes...

Spell specialist heroes are weaker than might spec. heroes in the middle of the game, but they starts faster against small neutral troops.
(Ok, it's game lvl dependent. At impossible&poor map You will hardly have big troops or lvl4 mage guild on week1-2 )
So I still consider to start with spell specialsists, but I prefer meteor shower,Ice bolt, or  magic arrow .. to speed up early development.

At very high level, most of the spell points are not used, so it's better to focus on A,D,S. Intelligence becomes obsolete.

I used to play with WoG, and tried to improve the magic side a little, and fix problems above. So I have written some scripts called wogmod.

- Shamanic Running: converts mana to movement, and vice versa in build10
- Masters of Spellcasting: more, than one spell per turn

BTW, armorer spec. is better, than offense spec. at high levels.
So I would prefer Tazar against Crag Hag.. at XL impossible.

Not completely true.
Not every hero (class) has the same chance getting specific secondary skills. The chances for Solmyr getting offense, armorer and logistics may be around 5%...

Its even worse.... alot worse if i may add...

Solmyr chances to get usefull might/adventure skills skills:

archery: 1,7%
logistics: 1,7%
pathfinding: 1,7%
tactics: 0,85%
offense: 0,85%
armorer: 0,85%
resistance: 0%

As you can see, its practicaly impossible to develop solmyrs skill table into something usefull even if we ignore bad allocation of primary points.

Well these are just a basic chances, and are surely not final ones...
There are many modifiers in the game that are still unknown to me and were discussed in several other threads, but its enough to give a feeling for chances.

Hehe, this thread reminds me of good old times playing small maps I generally prefer Deemer on those, though.

Anyone who says Might Heroes own Magic ones constantly has never played a Magic Hero like Elleshar.

If Elleshar goes up against ANY might hero with equivilant troops and they are both around lvl 13+...

lol...Elleshar is going to walk away with a win.

lol Should the might hero wait for Elleshar to reach level 13?
And even if he does so (no reason), why would he lose?

might hero also should wait while Elleshar will search for some good magic also, might hero should never use Red Orb, Cloak, Resist skill/speciality, resist artifacts and Shakles. Funny

Shackles and Resist Skill are pointless and useless as I dont ever intend on running...

The only chance you have is if you have something like the Red Orb or Recanters Cloak...if you have a completely nullifying item...then yes...you will win.

I dont use Ellehsar for Attacking...I use his extreme mana pool to summon Ele's and to ressurect....thats it...thats all I ever use....besides slow and haste...

You dont have to wait for me to be level 13....but I would venture on a Larger map I can get to lvl 8-10...and my mana should be sufficient...

I focus on building capitol, castle and magic guild before I build all my dwellings..

So this would mean when we both meet for a battle, you have a bunch full of centaurs, dwarves and some Grandelves, while I have Unicorns and Gold Dragons already? And then you summon 1 stack of earth elementals (I hope you find this spell in your mageguild..) after round 2 (at this point, your whole army is already dead), while I will attack them with 7 stacks of units. How long do you think you can stand up with this tactic?

Well...it obviously depends on when we meet...

If we meet as early as you are implying....then obviously you are going to beat me around like a little girl...lol

If you are talking about us meeting end of week 2 or day 1 of week 3...then yeah..you probably win with that army...unless I change strategies...my strategy changes based upon the map and when I think you are going to come barreling in...

YEY! Another endless discussion! You all know there's no final answer, do you? If not, I should tell you. There's no final answer. Every one has their oppinion, i personally thinks that Solmyr is a quite bad and quite boring hero. Crag is a good, but he's even more boring. I prefer magic heroes, using more supportlike speels (I belive that the four best speels are haste, slow, bless and curse (especially combined)). And you're comparing one of the bad magic heroes and one of the best might heroes! Why don't we compare tyris and malekith instead? I mean high lvl malekith would blow up Tyris' army (example: expert implosion+high sp+sorcery+specialty= thousands of damage)! I've had over 10k damage on implosion, that would slay a lot of creatures, even though I favour bless more, especially later on. Let's say you have 1000 pikemen, given a high attack, using the offense skill(specialliced) they might be given double damage:2-6, maybe more. If a mage, using expert bless it would probably get 4 damage, maybe 5.
What is best? 2000-6000 damage, or 4000 damage? But then, pikemen are good with bless, but it's just an example, hope you get the point! Wich is: Might and Magic can't be compared, only for each person, but not in general. Especially if you compare your favorite might/magic hero with the hero you hate the most of the opposite kind.

EDIT:@ Angelito: If he only has elves, it's probably week 2-3. How would you get all tiers by then, with upg. lvl7?

Thats what I am saying...I dont get how he has all those...without me having atleast Dendroids....

Are you saying Elleshar is a bad magic hero?

Because I would have to severely disagree....especially on a X-large map...

No! i'm saying that it's impossible to do a general camparision between might and magic heroes, that's only possible for each individual. That I prefer magic heroes, and that it's unfair to compare your favorite might hero with the magic hero you think is the worst one. i'm also saying that, Solmyr, who specialices in a spell like CL is one of the "bad" magic heroes, since he has an offensive spell that "dies" so quickly, he's only good the first 3-4 weeks and then he's just an ok hero. Nad that if you wan't to use offensive magic you should choose some one who is good with magic, instead of good with a spell. Elleshar has Intelligence, doesn't he? Then he's speceialized in magic, not a spell. If you specialize in a single spell, the hero will get bad as soon as the spell does. Elleshar won't be bad until magic is bad, wich will never happen. At least not for me.

EDIT: but btw: I actually prefer Halon (Mysticism).

Now you see what I was talking about in the other thread. But what about if he got fly?

Then he can fly from battle. Is that how it works, fly? or maybe my memory betray me...
