Because he said he will go for capitol first. So at the time he has found enough money to build capitol (2500 townhall, 500 marketplace, 1000 blacksmith, 5000 cityhall, 2500 citadel, 5000 castle, 10000 capitol = 26.500!!), I have built my dwellings. And then I get more money, because I can buy me 2 (or 5, depends on starting difficulty) unicorns and enter money buildings like medusa store, dwarven treasury etc.. and get my money from there. Use this money to build more dwellings or go for capitol afterwards. So we both will probably have capitol at the same time (or me even earlier), but I have built all my dwellings as well, while he has centaurs and dwarves...and maybe elves.

Meaning: you'll both have capitol and about equal money, but you'll have more troops, but he'll have mage guild lvl5. I still don't think you'll have all 7 tiers, with upg dragons, and it'll have to be a small map for you to find him so fast, in that case Solmyr or Jeddite (I believe Jeddite starts with meteor shower) would be a better mage, in such an early game.
EDIT: If you play well (I'm sure you will) and find plenty of resources/mines/storages/ or if you play easy, but then it's easy to get capitol in one week.

He has level 5...with 1 spell...cool. Even if it is summon earth...he won't have the chance to cast it more than 2 times.
Just try it...then you will see 
And btw...you mentioned small map. Online game are played on L or XL maps. And you meet your opponent in first month in 90% of all games..

That's almost what I said, in that case an offensive spellcaster, specialised in a single spell would be better, for example Solmyr, or a character with a good "tactical spell", like resurrect or prayer (mass prayer is great!)

I agree...Ive actually played as tower for a long time but my main hero was always Neela.
In HoMM 2 wizards were more than a match against any might hero. Spellcasting was very powerful in those days...but thats no longer the case...

Spell Casting is still quite powerful these days, but it's all up to how the player decides to use the magic that they have. Every decision counts in this game, and even a weak spell can decide the outcome for a battle.

Yes, it is still very powerful. Especially with mass buffs and spells like DD/Fly/Town Portal, magic users can be everywhere at the same time.

Solmyr is like any other hero that has 4th lvl spell.Have spellpower and knowlege-great,now u have to find time to cast it.It want help u a lot spending the time to get spellP and knowlege and then cast it 1 or 2 times.All games last 2,3,4weeks.Basicaly it is mass slow,skin,shield that help u a lot.

don't think solmyr is a big joke. the fact is he is probably better than at least half the other heroes in the game.
might may be better than magic, but even having a secondary hero with chain lightning can be very useful for clearing out areas with resources and defending a base.
on a small map using him is prob. not a bad choice for a starting hero.

Man, the only magic heroes I'd can think of, excl Conflux heroes, are Elleshar, Jeddite and Deemer. Battle mages are an interesting mix of might/magic but their alignment sucks. The problem with magic heroes in general, IMO, are the tendency for skills like sorcery, mysticism, scholar, learning, etc...and Solmyr starts with one of them.

Agreed, you can really beat the crap out of neutrals (and your opponent ) early on with Stronghold and Fortress. High-tier creatures day one or two HURTS.

Stronghold is strong town and is cheap,which means u can get Behs and castle week 1 and have a good game....But what sucks is that
cyclops r hard to build after u upgrade Behs.Orcs r nothing,plus to all of that ull have to sacrifice u 1 and 2(which r awesome) lvl units in order to get a good start.But the might heroes r best heroes from any other town,they r easy to get slow,have good stats...
