I would say that the treants, both normal and ancient are one of the worst looking creatures. They dont even look like trees except for the leaves and their bark-like texture. The beta version of the treant is by far better looking. The priest/inquisitor are also wierd looking, it's not what I picture as a servant and keeper of light. The hydra is cool, I like it, but the deep hydra isn't as much. I hate the way it attacks, where it kind of jumps up and moves over to attack more units...why can't it just stay stll like the normal hydra?
Other than that, the rest of the creatures look fine imo.

The Gargoyle's animation makes it look clumsy; most of the demonic and undead creatures would instantly lose a beauty pageant; the Manticores for obvious reasons; the mummies teeth look unnatural; the Angel is not ugly, per se, but I think it would look much better without its dangling feet; the Treant lives up the 'ant' part of its name; the eyebrows of the Brawler are questionable, and I think I'll stop here before I get myself into too much of a list.

for me, there are two creatures that share the ugliest creature award. these are the manticore and the death knight. they look just stupid. the best looking and most charismatic creature is the inquisitor. if only it could do some real damage...

i agree with Card (sort of, well there not cute anyway), you've really watched to much Lord of the Rings and think that thats what all trees must look like, answer, they dont, the Treant is simply a rather underfeed tree

Treants suppose to look like normal trees in the forest, that can move. They suppose to fit together with the other trees in the forest, and who passes shouldn't recognize they are Treants and not normal trees.
The problem is that they don't look like trees, they look like a statue that was made from large branches.
I don't think that their design is ugly, but that's not how treants suppose to be.

They are ugly... They walk weird... And now look at those legs: His back legs are like some animals... in some way, they could easily be the name look! BUT THEY DONT ! and why do Guards of the forest have red eyes

I know the phoenix looks nothing like what a phoenix "should" look like, but I still think it looks pretty awesome. Definitely conveys the raw power.
But seriously, the Treant is very strange looking. I guess it would be my least favorite. Although peasants are a close second.

The peasents are great looking, Fat, looking lazy, boring, they got everything a peasent needs

Ehhh, they were a lot cooler looking in Heroes 3. HOMM5 gargoyles simply suck now.

Correction, that's what YOU think treants shouldn't look like. I don't really mind them not looking exactly like trees, they look cool to me.

Actually, that's what the stories say. You can find what I wrote, almost every word, in Lord Of The Rings.
It's written there that the Treants are living trees. They camouflage themselves in the forest, between the other trees.
And I never said they look bad. Actually, they look nice.
And I don't know if making them more similiar to trees will be great.
At least to change their red eyes!

Grasshoppers, you say.. umm.. I don' see much in common between treants and grasshoppers..
Btw am I the only one who likes the gargoyles' appearance? Their animation is sucky, though.
