hmmm...
its been too long for any of the records to have survived, so unfortunately thats not solid proof ...those that have played UT however know that the game did keep records of every move someone made, including falls, lava deaths, kills and suicides... for the last two, there were stats and percentages for each weapon... this friend of mine clearly had a suicide marked under the sniper weapon... and has been the target of ridicule ever since (granted, with a bit of awe too...)

I don´t think it mentions the weapon when you die.
I can only recall those one:
"... was looking good until he killed himself" (killed himself while on killing spree)
"... has killed his own dumb self" (killed himself with any weapon except for redeemer, I think that includes being depressurized ěn Pressure[DM] and some other levels that have vacuum)
"... fell a long long way" (falling down)
"... forgot to come up for air" (diving in water for too long)
"... was slimed" (swimming in toxic waste for too long)
"... has vaporized himself with a redeemer" (this is the only weapon-specific suicide that I know of and may very well be a part of an add-on)

i don't remember any of those, but in UT specifically, you got a nice xml (?) record of everything you did... no addons or whatever, just out of the box Unreal Tournament (the first one, the original)
I don't even remember if that was accessible through the game, or if you had to manually open it... but it was there

Some of the better FPS games out there could include:
ShadowWarrior
Duke Nukem 3D
Quake
Doom, the old ones and the newest Doom 3
Wolfenstein 3D
Unreal
And many others which I cannot list right now.
These games are pretty awesome, and alot of fun to play.
Has anyone played "Black" for the Xbox?
I think that is a really really good game, too bad it is only a 1 player game, that would make such a good 2 player game.

Who cares about the graphics, the gameplay is the most important aspect of any game.
I put gameplay first, graphics second.
Sure the graphics might seem visually entertaining and interesting, and give that game a certain appeal to it (graphics wise), but if the gameplay is absolute rubbish, then I will not play it anymore.
Doom is a good game, has good gameplay but has rather bad graphics, seeing as though it is a rather old game, but the gameplay is what makes it fun.
I bet if it had good graphics but bad gameplay, people would buy it but immediately throw it away because it has bad gameplay, not really fun to play, just a real bore.
I dunno why people get so worked up about graphics, people THAT IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF A GAME!!!

I havent seen one game, where I couldn't see what was going on, or that hurt my eyes, every game is playable, you just gotta have the patience for it, and fps games might have good graphics, but that doesnt really mean that it will have good gameplay or whatever.
But I see what you are trying to get at

i can't see how a game where you run around in a 2d room where cardboard cutouts run at you as fast as they can shooting everything they've got before you shoot them down with your limited choice of 2d guns can be good gameplay

Not that I see this as a serious discussuion, but I have to agree with TA on this one - for me FPS good graphics and realistic game physics pretty much make up the game. It is true that after a certain point the graphics stops being as important (i.e. It is not necessary for me to see a realistic 3D shade of a fart to enjoy a game), but Doom, Wolfenstein and other ancient 3D games got outdated the moment Quake, UT, etc came out.

Graphics, Graphics, Graphics...
Graphics are just for making the game look good!! When you're advertising a new game, obviously you're not gonna put pictures of a guy with 2 black pixels for eyes! When you see a game advertisement, the first thing you say is "Whoa, that game looks cool!" That's how companies attract you to buying their games. If you see the Gamespot.com rankings board, you will see that games are ranked on 5 different categories, only one being graphics. Graphics don't make a game good or bad, it's gameplay and sound, and stuff like that.
What happened to Quake 4, eh? Back when it came out, the graphics were awesome, but the game was still pretty bad (at least, that's what I heard). Also there's Diablo II. Compared to nowadays the graphics are bad, but a lot of people still play it.(Surprisingly)
Graphics aren't everything!

I started playing two first dooms again.
I have to say there's one thing that bothers me the most in Doom 1&2.
It's not the graphics (actually seeing trees turn when you do is quite fun) but there are no side steps making dodging far more limited.
How annoying.

Sudden Attack
Ever heard of SA? Sudden Attack is the most popular online FPS game in Korea as StarCraft. I as a korean like SA too, though I quit playing it cuz the updates made it little bit "shaky". This might anger you, but SA is an FPS game which is much similar to CounterStrike. Before, SA came out CS and SpecialForce(another online FPS korean game) was loved by korean gamers. After SA came out, CS was no longer recognized and SF became trash. What's good about SA is that it is comfortable for women so if you play SA 'bout midnite, you might notcie that there are many college girl students that rock with AKs and M4s. What I know is that SA got less popular cuz the AKs and M4s got expensive(probably for online cash).
The most popular weapons are, 1.TRG 2.M4 Carbin 3.AK47
P.S. I heard that there is an American version. Anyone tried it?
