Help me beat my friend

Hello Heroes 3 community,

I'm trying to beat my friend (I have lost to him perhaps over 100 times), I've read a lot of strategy guides and I know how to actually play the game well.

I put my troubles down to the team/hero I choose at the start, or perhaps he knows something I don't?

I like to play as Castle as they are well rounded and I prefer to stick to one team and learn the strengths/weaknesses.

Is sticking to a team the right way to go or is it more about having a diverse ranging or tactics/counters? (I don't really like this style of play).

He seems quite diverse, and can play many heroes effectively though he tends towards logistics and/or dungeon I think. It always seems to happen that he has traversed massive areas of the map maintaining a strong army whilst I tend to have many losses.

Many losses are (most of the time) a result of entering a battle with TOO STRONG ARMY!! The stronger your army is, the LESSER stacks the AI creates. It is (most of the time) much easier to fight vs 7 stacks of 7 dendroids instead of 1 stack of 49 dendroids, right? Especially in early stages of the game, where u dont have many shooters, good magic etc...

If he clears more of his area than u do in yours in same time, it is (most of the time) a matter of "chaining". You should fight with more than 1 hero. Give army from 1 hero to the next...that way u clear your area faster, get resources / mines / artefacts faster.

There is no need to stick to a "native" hero. If u like to play castle, the starting hero you chose doesn't have to be your main hero at all. If u play 200%, chose Caitlin (money), if u play 130%, chose Valeska (she brings extra archers, which will help a lot early on..). But on your first turn, look in tavern, buy some more heroes (as long as u can afford) and look out for good might heroes. All heroes who start with logistics are good, all barbarians are good, beastmasters, demoniacs and overlords are cool too. Try to get good might skills on your main (offense, armorer, logistics, tactics, earth/air...) and then kick your friend's A$$..

Thanks I'll keep stack tip in mind. Swapping armies between heroes also sounds interesting. But don't you want to ensure all experience goes to one super strong hero? Or is that a bit of a basic approach to heroes? Thats what he does and what I've been doing.

Keep the bigger fights for your possible main. The other fights can be done by all other heroes. It even makes other fights easier if your "scouts" are level 3 or 4 instead fo level 1. The more heroes u use for fighting / clearing your map, the faster u will be. The earlier u can build your high level dwellings...the earlier u can take tougher fights...the faster your main levels up....and so on....
