Disecting the Inferno...

We have heard about strategies to use certain towns, these threads are for you opinions on the town, it buildings, creatures, and specials.

What can you say about the inferno besides crap.

The castle gate is only useful if you have multiple towns and is expensive.  Expensive almost says it all about this town, everything seems too expensive.  People may like the cerberi, but the magogs are just to dangerous to buy.  The only must have creature is the efreet sultan because no one wants to spend the money on devils when they could be finding a different town to use.

My advice: stay away from Inferno.

Creatures:
1) Imps. About all they're useful for is gaining Demons from the Pit Lord trick.
2) Magogs. Too often a liability if you upgrade them.
3) Cerberi. Tri-attack and no retaliation make this a worthwhile troop.
4) Demons. No special, but an okay fighter.
5) Pit Lords. About all they're useful for is gaining Demons by sacrificing your Imps.
6) Efreet. Fast, Fire Shielded, good damage... this is the only good troop in the whole town.
7) Devils. Fast with no retaliation, but so expensive and so easily killed.

Special buildings:
Stormclouds: Not very useful.
Order of Fire: <Mr. Burns' voice> Excellent. </voice>
Castle Gate: You're kidding me, right? I've seen it help once in many, many games.

Heroes:
They all suck. Sorry.

Overall: If you leave your town as random and get this one, restart.

Inferno rules

Don't know about you gyus, but I play my games on Impossible (single) and Expert or Hard (multiplayer). At high difficulty level there is no better town than ferno. Yes, units and buildings are expensive, but only moneywise. You need only a lot of mercury and you have your silo to produce it. You can get all creature buildings with only 3 mercury and 3 sulfur (+ wood/ore of course). With the silo built in week 2 I get my devils week 2 or at most 3. No other town is as resourse independant. Play your beloved Dungeon on impossible and see when you get your dragons. Heck you may be stuck on your level 3 dwelling for a while until you get one of each resource. On hard difficulty I will pick ferno over any other town. And yes, if I draw ferno as a random town I feel good

Inferno units are not bad at all, they just require more carefull playing (just like fortress). I wont go into details here, just say that the devil is the best unupgraded level 7 unit and you can get it fairly easy. With a single devil I can beat a legions of slow wandering creatues like dendroids, ogres, etc. With mass slow I can beat almost any size any non-shooter stack. And this happens more often than not.

Inferno can get some of the best spells that will guarantee you the victory most of the time - Armageddon and Berserk. Sacrifice abd frensy are other very usefull spells for your devils, so is force field.

In conclusion, most experienced players that I know think inferno is one of the best (if not THE best) towns.

No.  You need 3 Sulfur, 3 Gems, and 23 Mercury.  And that's if you don't want upgrades.  With 'grades it's 18 Sulfur, 8 Gems, and 58 Mercury.

I could say more, like about how Devil isn't the best level 7, but I don't feel like it.

What I wanted to say was that you need 3 mercury and 3 sulfur to get all your level 1-6 unupgraded dwellings.
Which other town can do that?

1) You also need 3 gems. Sorry to nitpick, but ...
2) Necropolis needs only 10 sulfur (and no other rare resources), and Castle needs only 2 of each rare resource. So there.
3) Most towns base level 1-6 don't suck as badly as Inferno's do.

He he he

When I first started playing HMM3 I thought it was one of the weakest towns if not the weakest. But the wicked devils have proven me wrong.

This is not a hack and sash town, it must be handled with care.
You can win battles with yur no enemy retal troops that you've never dreamed of winning with other castles and the posibillity of Armageddon - very very wicked

Now for my opinion...

THE INFERNO IS NOT THAT BAD!!!!!!

The inferno town is not all weaknesses!!! There are many strengths that this town has to offer.

Some good bits on inferno are...
- Cerebri are undoubtely the best level 3's. Fast, no retaliation and tri-attack make them on top of the world.
- Devils may have low HP's and modest damage, but their awesome speed and no retalitation does NOT make them the weakest and most useless level 7 - that honour goes to the ghost dragon, not the arch devil. In decent numbers devils should be feared by many.
- Efreet Sultans are fast, decent, and is only vulnerable to high level tank troops.
- Demons are decent level 4's, but only average speed.
- Inferno buildings are pretty good, with the order of fire being one of the best.
- Many Inferno heroes enhance otherwise weak spells.
- On average, Inferno troops are the FASTEST!!!

Now to the bad bits:
- Inferno IS an expensive town to build and maintain. You will need payloads of gold mines to run this town efficiently.
- The imp and gog are pretty paltry units. Imps go down fast like bowling pins and gogs are pretty lousy shooters.
- No low level flyers. The Efreet will be your first flyer in the lineup.

Overall, the Inferno will be 7th in my town rankings.

nice town

I always liked Infero even in the beginnning when people complained about it. I wouldn't ever restart if I got Inferno, I'd only even consider a restart if Conflux or maybe Tower on a random map.

I've never found any trouble in getting the first 6 levels of creatures for Inferno, but getting the devils might be trouble depending on how many units you had to buy for fighting in the first 2 weeks. I'd stay away from buying pit lords(units) early unless you can do a strong early demon harvest.

Also upgrading the devils and also being able to have enough mercury to actually buy them after the upgrade is one of the most difficult towns to accomplish this for. Only Tower or perhaps Dungeon compare.

Some of Inferno heroes are very nice, I'd not be disappointed in them, though some other towns have better heroes, Inferno isn't the worst by far.

Personally i dont like inferno that much but some of the "points" here are plain stupidity.

Gogs are also demon fodder to me, they kinda suck anyway. Cerbs are great, blessed they are killers. Demons are great in big numbers which u can get em to if you know how to harve em. I usually get my pit fiends to lords as soon as i can in week 2 for demon hunting. But i like em without their special ability aswell. Efreets are also very good, you get em fast and if you can spare the money you can take most week1 fights with em. Devils are good, just wait and hit and you can clear most of map. And in "final battle(s)" they are also very good, inferno is a very fast town. You just need to learn how to handle their speed instead of saying that they suck.

If i see Pyre in tavern and dont have any special off/def/log hero concider her hired for main. Calid and Octavia are very good scouts since they get you sulfur/cash. Rashka is great to develop to get a good scholar. Marius and Pit fiend special hero are also main material if sucky heroes. No i wouldnt say that these heroes sucks, and there are some other descent ones aswell, Ayden for example...

Coldfyrius, no one has said that devil is the best lvl 7 creature. But then there are no ways either to say which one is better, all you can have is a favourite lvl 7 creature.

Oh and i can say more about why you seem to know nothing what you talk about, but i dont feel like it...

Units:
1. Imps - very weak but very fast. Can only be powerful with a grail.
2. Magogs - worst shooters.
3. Cerberus - three-sided attack + no retalation is a killer and they have good stats too.
4. Demons - strong units.
5. Pit Fiends - good for summoning demons and quite good soldiers themselves with a powerful attack.
6. Efreet Sultans - really good. Fast, powerful. FireShield is a killer - the enemy will have hard time killing these without shooters/magic.
7. Archdevils - very fast, powerful attack but fragile and expensive. But they also have No Retalation! and it's a killer for level 7.

Special Buildings:
Order of Fire - gooooooooooood.
Brimstone Cloud - not gooooooooood.
Castle Gate - only useful in L/XL maps but too expensive.

Mage Guild:
Has some good spells: blind, berserk, frenzy... but misses out on the best like : slow, haste, town portal, implosion, fly, dimension door (you might get some of them rearly).

Overall:
Below average town. Fastest army, some good units, some good spells but expensive, weak heroes, hard to get the best spells, no decent shooter, only high level fliers. It's more powerful in bigger maps and can only be played well by experienced players.

Another one of those mage guild experts. Inferno has no less access to the above spells than any other town. In fact, going by quality, Inferno has the best mage guild of all 9 towns, because it misses out on Summon Air, Summon Water and Magic Mirror. Chances for the remaining six mostly good and great level 5 spells are even. Inferno is also one of the three towns with a potential Armageddon at level 4.

inferno really needs expert fire magic to do it's best. Protection from fire, then armageddon after armageddon. You can also start off the battle by casting and expert beserk so they kill themselves off. That's when you go in with your efreets and devils to clear out any remaining threats. I love expert beserk.

Or you could cast frenzy on your devils and go attack their troops. You think. Damn it those devils are dead. Well I'm glad I have sacrifice. Hey look I'll sac about my useless imps and ressurect all of devils.

Then I can make some extra demons.

Maniac, you can use the map editor to find out which town has which spells enabled and disabled. When itīs about spending 28 of each precious resource, itīs very useful to know what your chances to get a powerful spell are. Quite a difference there between Inferno and Rampart ...

Inferno after Stronghold is the best town for offense. A hero with good attack, offense, mass haste and tactics often destroys the majority of an army before opponent has even moved. Also the possibility of getting efreet day3 cannot be underestimated.
