that`s what i`m talking about, QUITE well on high-end PC. H3 work fine even on pentium 100Mhz with 32 MB RAM. i dont know why i have such feeling but after many games in H5 i played H2, H3 and then realized that they are much faster.it`s not only how does it work but gameplay.
Slow or not H5 is also a good game
By the way do you like heroes in 3d ? or prefer 2d ?

Hm let me see, first time i've ever played something from the HOMM series was H3. A friend of mine showed me the game when i was supposed to sleep there during the night with a couple of friends. I didnt really find it so... fun then. Was until later when i got some privacy to explore the game all by myself when it became a little more intresting.
I still love H3 more then any of the other games in the series. Actually i've never played H4 cuz from what i've heard it shouldnt be so good.

Oh, i think this should be my #2 "most-addicted-to-game" next after DiabloII LoD.

edit: " H3 work fine even on pentium 100Mhz with 32 MB RAM."
i found it quite hilarious when i got failed during my H3 complete installtion for having 2GB ram.

I owe my heroes addiction to an old PC gaming magazine that released a demo of Heroes 2.
This demo allowed you to play as all factions in one map. But the map was so well made I forgot what it was called that I was completely hooked.

Once I got Heroes 3, I was in absolute heaven. I got my best friend to become addicted like me and we used to play hot seat for hours and hours on end. Still do every now and then.

Heroes 4 was a disappointment but I'm becoming more and more fond of H5 as time goes on.

no doubt about it - it's h3.

a friend of my brother made copies of games - he gave my brother a full cd-box!
inside there was a game. lots and lots of games, but this was...the holy game
well i didn't saw all of the games, nor i saw a holy game in the box, but

it was evening. i just stole something from my brother( this is my second brother). it's still a shame
my brother was behind the computer. he saw me and said: you're stealing. i said no. he said youre stealing. i said no. before he could say anything, i changed the subject.
whats that game called. i pointed at the game he was playing.
he said: it;s heroes 3.
i looked. my eye fell on the medusa...i was in love...with the game and the medusa. i played fortress dindt like it. it's my favorite town now. i asked explain me.
the game was english and i am dutch, and i was 4 when i fell in love with the game. i dint understand the sligtest thing.

6 years later. i borrowed heroes 3 COMPLETE from the...errr..eh...don't know how to say that word in english
anyway, i borrowed it, and loved conflux. but i still loved h3 more.
h3 complete didn't get hold of the atmosphere of te normal h3.

i love h5 too

I have vague memories of playing Heroes 1 and Heroes 2, but the fragments that I do have are still very clear. I got hooked on Heroes 2, actually ... I don't recall Heroes 1 attracting me as much as future Heroes titles did way back when. I probably got a pirated copy of it, from a friend. Liked it, played it and didn't object when I got a pirated copy of Heroes 2 either. Mind you, I was still in my teens, money was short in supply and I just wanted to play the game.

Eventually Heroes 3 came out, some time after I stopped playing Heroes 2. My brother arranged a copy from a guy he met at the university and this game hooked me completely. I bought the expansion, Armageddon's Blade myself (my first real Heroes purchase ). One of the best campaigns ever in the Heroes series in my opinion is the "Festival of Life" which came with AB, I simply love it.

I missed out on Shadow of Death, both due to not paying attention and once more lacking money. Then Heroes 4 came. I was about to buy the game, when I read the reviews on a number of gaming sites: they tore it apart. I decided not to buy it and stick with Heroes 3 for a while longer.

Eventually, though, with expansions released for Heroes 4, I wanted to buy it anyway. So 2 years ago (money no longer an issue ) I finally managed to buy it online and played it once. The critics were right, as I didn't really like it. I pondered getting the expansions to it, but decided not to. I'm still pondering, by the way, just for Heroes of Might and Magic sake.

Then Heroes 5 came and I bought it right when it came out, a purchase I haven't regretted even a single second. The HoF expansion had some delivery issues, but eventually it came as well. I was a bit disappointed with the campaigns (the Dwarf campaign only features 9 towns across all 5 maps and the maps in that campaign feel too similar to one another), but the added features are nice. I have TotE in pre-order since it was possible .

In between HoF and TotE, I also surprisingly managed to get my hands online on a Heroes3 Complete, which I bought. Finally I could also play Shadow of Death. Few disappointments there: the Shadow of Death campaigns are all vs. Necromancers all of the time, which gets annoying after a bunch of maps, and some of the new terrain features look ugly (who the heck designed the tombstones of the hallowed ground??). Besides, the Heroes3 Complete box came without a manual of any kind, so I still haven't got a clue what some of these special terrains do. Also, the way I built up Gem, Crag Hack, Yog and Gelu is totally lost, despite the message that their spells, skills and experience would carry over. In the combined campaign, they start with a random set of skills and no spells. So much for building them up myself ...

Still looking into buying a copy of Heroes1 and Heroes2 .

I think what I miss most from H3 is the setup of the factions, particularly, the two neutrals Stronghold and Fortress being at war.

H5 doesn't even have a reptile town, and with hydras / riders being in Dungeon, it probably won't come either, unfortunately. And although the new Barbarian town looks good, the Behemoths and Rocs with be sorely missed.

Another thing which I miss is the old H3 Dungeon town atmosphere. I don't know why, but it felt really powerfull and alive, lived-through or something... The Dark Elf town just looks dead. Perhaps an idea for a mod... Hmm!

Some years after I got H4 with all expansions and then got H3 with all expansions too. And now I have H5 + HoF.

Great all of them, all have their pros and cons

I´ll tell my story too, so I was pretty young about 7 or 8 years old and me and my friend were into Strategy (Yes I know we sucked, but we liked it ) we´ve been playing Age of Empires a lot and one day he said to me he had a new game, so we went to his place an it was Heroes III so we played a lot and I asked him for a copy and he gave me one and I fell in love with the game and mainly for its Editor yeI´ve always loved to make Maps. That´s when I started playing Heroes I didn´t understand all the texts, but the gam itself was lovely. After that I hadn´t played it in a long time and I was at my computer (Still had the game installed luckily) my brother who is a bit younger then me asked me what that game was so I started it again and loved it again and then I saw Heroes IV in stores that wasn´t so long ago 2005 or so I couldn´t refuse to buy it and later I found out that Heroes V was in progress I couldn´t wait to play it when it came out I almost bought it the same day and have loved Heroes ever since

That´s my story.

I started from H3 and fell in love to it. Played few years nonstop then I saw H2 but it wasn´t so good because I was already used to H3 grapichs(I know it was good then) and didnt liked H2. Then H4 came out and I started playing it which was good one but no way as good as H3. H5 is a good game between H3 and H4(nearer H3) which needs some balance fix still. And what is good about H5 are it´s expansions which gives you something worth of money(unlike H4). H5 expansions has give much more creatures, spells, balances unlike H4 or H3 expansions which mostly added almost only campaings.

Not like most of you who got acquainted with HOMM during your teenage, I did after finishing my Bachelor. To be precise, when doing my grad study!

So it was 1997, I was on Australia (Adelaide) doing my Master. Brought my own PC (yes, PC, not laptop!) travelling all the way from Indonesia to the world down under. I had H1 installed by my PC seller on the drive without my knowledge (I think it was a demo ver). At dorm, my friend tried my PC and found the game and somehow went ecstatic with his finding. I permitted him to play, from afternoon... until....... the next morning. For the next several days this became rather routine; he played during the nite til the morning, I studied, slept, got up, and saw him was still "Heroes-ing". I was puzzled with this strange behavior, but being a good friend I didn't object. I just wondered what kind of game he played that got him so addicted. So after a while when he got bored (I wonder why), I started to try the game myself and, surely, got infected with the addiction...

Then I returned home for a holiday, and to my surprise I found H2 in store! Bought it and brought it back to Aussie and began playing. Before I finished the campaign, the harddrive crashed, leaving myself to agony. I didn't want to restart the campaign, so history wrote H2 as the only series that I didn't manage to finish. After coming home for good (finishing my study), given my work I stopped playing for a while. (My fav map from that series was The Dragon Rider, can't remember the hero's name maybe it's Alamar, but it's the one with just 1 Dragon creeping the whole map. Awesome, hehe.)

When H3 came, it was as good as ever. I'm fascinated with Gelu, I reckon the most decent hero in all HOMM series. Tried all the expansions (Chronicles, Gathering Storm etc). I'm always interested with the storyline. I know some of you guys don't like it, but being from non-English speaking country I can't really judge the dialogues. Everything seems fine to me

I welcomed H4 on its release. I know it gets lots of critics from this forum. Indeed, some parts are good invention, some aren't. But when I couldn't finish the Lysander's campaign and restarted it again, this time equiping the hero with Order Magic and Hypnotize, I learnt that that school is way overpowered. Maybe that's also the downfall point in that series.

It took a while until H5 came out. I didn't know 3DO filed bankruptcy until I read that somewhere. But when it was out, it sure was a blown away series. Played and played until got thirsty for any expansion. Found LotA from this community so I decided to join after some months being a mere lurker  Now I'm happy to be here.

H6? What H6?? Go Nival, go!!

First time I saw a heroes game was Heroes I, a friend of mine showed me the game and we had a good laugh. Surprisingly this little game had quite a good deal of strategy in it, but it wasn't untill I borrowed a copy of Heroes2 from that same firend that I really got addicted to the series. Heroes2 offered some of the most hard core strategy challenges I've seen. I remember my favorite scenario being the one where you'd start with just a few golems and some halflings for an army, and for hero a lvl1 wizard with a bless spell and a lucky rabbits foot Alone on the beach with no castle in sight, a legon of skeletons blocking your path

My friends and me kept competing for the highest score on every map, breaking seemingly impossible records, defeating insanely powerfull armies in record time.

Heroes2 will always stay one of the my best gaming experiences

The story is kinda funny, actually.
I was playing all kinds of stuff, but didn't like neither rpgs nor fantasy... A friend of mine, a guy with a USUALLY very good gaming taste started pestering me about this game, Heroes of Might and Magic I, and how I HAD to play that game and how I WOULD like it and all - but I wouldn't touch it with a 10-feet-pole. A couple of months later he started all over again, only this time it was HoMM II, and how the game just had become STILL better and so on. It got really frustrating, because whenever we talked he would inevitably explain to me what I missed and how great the game was...
So when he suddenly reported that there was a special edition of Homm 2 available that came with a bonus CD of Homm 1, I decided, what the hell, and bought it - just to shut him up, more or less.
I believe in doing things historically, so I started with giving Homm 1 a go.
I was pleasantly surprised - as opposed to my family, truth to be told, since it seems for a week or so they didn't see much of me -, but it got really ugly, when I thought it would be time to give #2 a go, which was supposed to be a better game yet, according to my friend.
Yeah, well. Actually it was.
