Hero of Order
The Abyss Staring Back at You

I love it when mac users say that "Macs don't get viruses".  That may be true, but they say it like, "Macs CAN'T get viruses."  The reason Macs don't get viruses is because nobody wants to write a virus for a Mac.  Why would they?  If you were going to write a virus, you would want it to have maximum impact, and the world runs on PCs.  Sorry, but it's true.

No. The reason MACs CAN'T get catastrophic viruses is because of the permissions by the file system. Similar is the case of PCs running Linux. You can't harm your system (I mean the core of your OS) if you run as a simple user something bad, most likely because you don't have permissions. The worst thing that can happen to you is possibly to "lose" all your private data. I know, this seems really bad, but can be avoided by regular backups.
On the other hand, PCs + Windows are problematic by nature. If you want full functionality of your pc, you must login (most of the time) with administrating privileges. Hence, even regular backups can make your life really miserable because you must go through all the installations and minor hand-tuned configurations once again ...
