help me, i'm on a magical mission

basically, my friend is trying to design a computer game to send to a local games company. he is good on original ideas and bits of programing, but not terribly good at other stuff. he came to me for advice.
"so what have you got?" i asked
"basically" he said "its a fighting game, a bit like tekken or soul calibur, but you use wizards and witchs, with all the magic, as well as fighting!"
"ok," i said, my mind picturing a beardy guy axe kicking a shaman into the ground "so what do you have so far?"
"well," he said "i thought that different countries could enter three wizards or witchs into a milleumium old competition, or something, and fight for some kind of ultimate prize."
"so do you want names of wizards for different countries?" i asked
"yeah"
"so, lets start with britian,"
i began to think.
"we have to include merlin, he is a british wizard, after all. we might include Morrigan, as she is quiet a powerful druidess. faust would probably be the last one, to counter balance the others with a very dark theme." he busily wrote this down, "any other countries"
"well, i was thinking austrailia, slavic, egypt, greece, arabia, america, anywhere, basically. we also need a cheif hero for the story games, and a majorly powerful villian."
"for the slavic, that makes me think of dracula, baba yaga and werewolves, which should be fun to play!"
"can you think of any more?"
"erm...."
and that was where i was stumped. i knew alot about british mythology, and some bits and peices about the balkans, but i'm not terribly good about everywhere else!
"can i get back to you on that?" i said.

and this is where i need some help. if you have ideas for the game, then please share them. ideas for wizards and witches are more than welcome! comments on what i have so far are great.

can you help me?!

game update april 2nd 2007:

game name decided: Avalon!

storyline: basically, the Avalon tournement is held to decide who will rise as the guardian god for the next 500 years. everyone wants a cut at the action, Brits, Ausies, Japanese, Americans, norse, everyone. some people are entering to protect people they love, others are entering in to prove or redeem themselves, other are going for the power. with infinate backgrounds.

the main villian (supposedly) is Set, the egyptian god of chaos, trying to regain his godhood. other gods, including Inari, Morrigan, and others, are trying to stop him. but something far worse is trying to gain the power of Avalon!

some teams and character decided

Egyptian Mages: (Class: Sorceror)

Ra-Khem: The Son of The Sun God, Ra-Khem is a medium speed, strong warrior.(fighter with sheild and eqyptian sword)

Basteswt: She was a maid for the Cat God, Bast, and learned much about speed and agility from her master. (magic with twin daggers)

Seth: The God of the Desert, Set, was expelled from the Kingdom of the Gods after his murder of Osiris.  He lives on earth as a mortal, and fights with Shadow Spells that can raise warriors of the dead. (summoner with staff)

American Mages: (Class: Wiccan)

Mary Easty: Mary Easty was one of the leaders of the Salem Council in Massachusets during the Commoner's Uprising.  She escaped by calling on the Goddess, who transported her ahead 4 centuries.  She is proficient in nature magic. (magic with walking stick)

Raven: A Native American, he wandered for seven years in the mountains, learning to converse with birds.  His greatest ability is the power to fly for short periods. (warrior with massive tomahawk)

alice: Alice cooper, has the power over seven puppets with demons sealed inside (summoner with knife)

slavic mages: (class: Bogytar)

Dracula: Dracula, the oldest vampire, has the power "life drain" (magic with a foil)

Marcellus: Marcellus is a werewolf, and has the power to call his bretheren to his aide. (fighter with a big axe!)

Baba-Yaga: Baba Yaga, a witch from the Forrests, is able to construct magical buildings, vehicles, and automatons from peices of the environment. (summoner with a broomstick

British mages (class: druid)

merlin: in a younger form, with brown hair. able to fight with the power of wind, and a big quaterstaff. balanced. uses air power by inhaling and then exhaling it into a shape. (magic with large quaterstaff)

Morrigan: pictured as a young girl of scotish descendence (lots of gealic tattoos!). able to fight with the power of storms, along with two swords. (fighter wtih two large swords)

faust: goth, basically, black hair, scars. able to summon demons to fight with. (summoner with knife)

greek mages: (class: oracle)

oeriphius: a young man with a lyre. able to attack with sound (magic with a lyre)

Prometeus: A huge guy with some sort of a robe below the waist, and without clothes on the upper side. Specialises in clay magic. (fighter with large clay mallet)

circe: girl in seductive suit. able to silence people, able to summon pig monsters (summoner with stileto knife)

Sakura: a geisha who died protecting her brother in battle and became the spirit of a certain lake, just outside Koyto. also associated with Susako, the pheonix of the lake. (magic with geisha fan)

stuff we still need to do-

decide details for chinese team (names, weapons, suchlike):

chinese team (class: Dao-si)

a female dragon who is the magic member, who has the power over water (magic)

male local god who is a bellicose master of combat. (fighter)

a local hero\ine who can summon tigers. (summoner)

decide the additional character for the norse team:

norse team (class: seer)

Sigrdrífa: A Valkirie with long black hair riding on a wolf, this maiden is able to strike from the wolf or dismount and move with great agility. (fighter with spear)

Caster: (this is the one we need to decide)

Hel: Hel is the queen of the underworld. however, more of her subjects are being taken from their rightful place by Set, and she is determined to stop him.  She can summon undead warriors that slowly come back to life. (summoner with ?knuckle dusters?)

choose the members for the following teams:

the witchdoctors of the caribbean

the shamans of austrailiasia

the archmages of arabia (arabian nights)

this is good, but we still need some help!

Morrigan: pictured as a young girl of scotish descendence (lots of gealic tattoos!). able to fight with the power of storms, along with two swords. heavily combat based.

faust: goth, basically, black hair, scars. able to summon demons to fight with, along with alot of sharp knives. magic based.

i told him about yours, daystar, and he was delighted!

he has had an idea that each country should have a specific type of magic, and the wizards get extra spells depending on what they control. all of them could get heal, or something similar.

can we not have willow, because it seems like buffy. could we replace her with (the original witch) alice cooper and her demon puppets!

keep'em coming!

Greece:
Charon - hooded, dark, a bit rugged, fights with a staff
Prometeus - A guy with some sort of a robe below the waist, and without clothes on the upper side. Specialises in fire, of course.
And perhaps Poliphemus - the muscle of the bunch. Really big and really pissed.

coooool

i was trying to have at least 1 of either sex in a team, so circe could replace Poliphemus. maybe inside of charon we could have Oriphious? i don't know

about balkans being one faction, yeah it should change to Slavs, but i couldn't find the right words. and yeah baba yaga is from Slavic mythos.

for russian i was thinking of rasputin (yeah of course) and some others... (help!)

basically, the countries we've got are egypt, britian, poland (or any country of choice in the balkans), russian, american, japan, china, arabia, the carribean and south africa. so if you could suggest any for those, then that would be cool. others would be fine, i can add them along the way!

Well Russians should also be a part of Slavic group... I thought it would be cooler if you had mages by ethnical groups:
Hellenic
Slavic
Egyptian
Arabic
Celtic
Native American
Chinese
Indian
Norse/Germanic
African
That's 10 main groups... You could add Japanese too.
It's dumb to make it just by countries since you can't really cover all the countries. Ethnic groups would be best.
Oh and btw:

poland (or any country of choice in the balkans)

Poland is far from the Balkans dude... The Balkans is the peninsula containing the following countries:
Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, Montenegro and a part of Romania. You can see that on a map of Europe. Now, there's a slight problem in the Balkans: if you, for example, put Croatia and not Serbia, most Serbs won't play the game. If you put Serbia, and not Croatia, most Croatians will hate the game. If you put Bosnia neither Serbs or Croatians will like it. If you put just Albania in, I really doubt you'll see a Serb, Greek or a Macedonian playing the game. That's how things go in the Balkans... Too much politics for anyone's good. Trust me.

Nice work Card. Let me just point out some details.

Väinämöinen is usually on old man with a straight back and muscular body, so no crappy old man who can't stand straight And by singing we mean almost anything...summoning things, changing the weather, moving objects, anything. He's supposed to be really powerful

Louhi is female. She is the "Bad guy"(Even though she's not a guy, to be precise) of Kalevala. She can, as Ximinez said, turn herself into an eagle, but she also has many other magical skills so don't worry about exaggerating it a bit

What others are there in the finnish mythology...Damn, there is no finnish mythology, just the Kalevala!

Sorry, got nothing else.

yeah, ok. each has their own mage-type figure (norse have Vikti, celtic have druids), but i want to get a much broader aspect of it. my friend doesn't want to sift through thousands of names of shamans and seers who nobody has heard off. you couldn't really could Alice cooper, white southern girl, as a native american or as a celt, could you? faust isn't particularly celtic either.

basically, what we need is a general mage for each ethnic group, then ad specific spells and moves to that character. so, druids for celts, sorcerers for egyptians, itako for japanese (i want them in, simply because they kick arse at fighting!), seers for norse, wiccan for american, witch doctors for carribean, and Dao-si for chinese. if you could help me out for names, then that would be appreciated.

i was thinking that they all could survive, incognito, waiting for a big tournement thats held every two thousand years. whoever wins becomes the mightiest wizard on earth.

but they can only do this in teams. so, they have decided to find witchs and wizards from their own country, and fight with them. some of them are good friends, like merlin and morrigan. others are not so good friends, baba yaga and Marcellus for example. but if they want to win this (and they do) they need to do it in teams.

Macedonia is the place where ancients greeks were living. The name Macedonia is absolutely greek word.Alexander the Great who was the king of Macedonia till 323 B.C was greek speaking ancient greeks and believe in the gods that ancients greeks believe though. He was Macedonian and Greek. As i am Athinian and Greek. So Macedonia isn't a country but an area in the northern Greece. The country u called Macedonia is F.Y.R.O.M or u call it as well SKOPIA or Vardaska

I know how you feel. I get pissed too when Croatians say how Slavonia or Krajina are parts of Croatia, since they were always Serbian, orthodox areas etc but that's how things are. I learned to live with it.
Besides, isn't calling it the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia even worse? I mean, it's alluding that it's Yugoslavian, not Greek lands...
Finally, it wasn't me who proclaimed that country's name is Macedonia, it was the bloody commies...
