The Cold Death perk always does enough damage to destroy 1 creature in a stack regardless of health + normal ammount of damage the spell does.  So if the creatures in the stack have say 2 hp it does 2hp+normal damage of the spell.  If the creature has say 2000 hp (a really powerful phoenix from a spell) it would do 2000 + normal damage of the spell.

Ceres, you got it all wrong, there's no such thing as overpowered faction in heroes 5. Any faction can beat any other faction, its only a matter of finding ways to counter strengths and exploit weaknesses.

Probably... maybe it depends on the player and or some other aspects.  But still, Academy looks strong.  I happen to see a thread - Academy the strongest faction, here.

You can find threads about haven/fortress/dungeon supremacy etc. Some were true but outdated  and in other cases the author was wrong, don't believe anything you see.

As I have said many times, just about any town can find a counter for any other.  It may be hard, sometimes extreamly, but it can be done.  Academy does seem to be one of the top towns used in Multiplayer, as does Sylvan.  And they can be quite potent.  Unbeatable?  Absolutely not.

Academy destruction got a huge boost in ToTE.  However, I still think that Sylvan and Inferno got the biggest boost.  

It seems I'm going to put my money where my mouth is regarding Kythra.  I'm in a 3 way game right now against Stronghold and Haven.  I'm doing an Empathy/Summoning build with Kythra as my main against these yahoos.  Will report on it later.  I've got cleanse, so I've got a fighting chance I think against Haven dark.   We'll see.

Nearly everything said here refers to TotE, cold death and such are TotE only, so is empathy, stalkers etc... In classical HoMM and HoF things are different and the recent advice doesn't apply. You should look through the older pages of this thread to find potent dungeon strategies.

Regarding phoenixes, you need to kill them with magic and place your other troops so that they don't get hit by phoenix breath. High spell power is the key (I'm talking about 20 or more SP), so that you can kill them with one spell, and if that isn't enough there's warlock's luck and artifacts that increase spell damage by 50% (like the emerald slippers).
If you're good enough at troop placement, you may use stacks of sacrificable units, hoping that you will kill all the phoenixes before they kill your fodder, otherwise deep hydras is the best you have for soaking up damage.

Yeah, there is no unbeatable faction, but there are some faction that can be defeated easily, inferno is one of them (without its deleb), even though inferno is my number one faction, i admit that it's too weak compared to several other towns

I have a question for Dungeon enthousiasts out there. I was thinking about Light magic. I know it's clearly not the most obvious choice for dungeon but it could pay off obviously by countering Dark but it could also work wonders with Blood Furies. The Warlock's high spellpower combined with Resurrect would allow a large number of furies to be resurrected and since there is no retaliation and they have the sweet strike and return ability taking them down would be a real pain.
Of course you are going to tell me that getting Light is a lot harder with warlocks and that using Resurrection instead of a powerful area of effect damage spell is just plain nonsense. Still it would avoid the loss of any furies (creatures that always become the first targets in every battle) and would render the Red Dragon more reliable (no magic immunity but with both Resurrect and Cleansing that wouldn't be a problem).
It's clearly not easy to pull that off but that might work.

hmmm....Iv heard of many people say that Dungeon can take Sylvan away easily if you attack early.
but I think there is something differet in TOTE.especially when you paly against the hero Wyngaal.today I lost to a player who use him and when I try to HR..all his troops act before my stalkers.even if the hunters which have only 10 initiative.and I lost without a sigle action.
It was only week2 and day4. maybe it is my fault not to take the hydra with me...or is there something I still miss?

WYngaal was banned in HoF, he probably is not nerfed enough yet..

About light I would say no. Might armies with light as sylvan and haven are probably much more effective. Sure it could help you but would it be enough? Maybe if you had a guarantee for divine vengeance/resurrection and mass righteous magic/cleansing/haste spells but still you'd have a worse creeping than with destructive and secrets of destruction perk for mana.

right...2% per level is really too much...
so in TOTE he gets 1% per level while the effect is still obvious.
I think I totally got in a wrong way because even if his troops could not
act he can finish me with a sigle imbue arrow....
in two weeks I could have 20 fruies..40 stalker and 6 hydra and is it enough to afford the damage the sylvan troops does? he get 16 hunters ,40
sprites and 8 druids.
wish I didnt go off the topic..

It certainly should be, the hunters usually die in one cast and you can kill more if you have a mage guild 3. Which you should have if you know that the map can be rushed.

Light Magic is a waste of a magnificient Spell Power.  If you're thinking outside the box with Dungeon you might want to consider using a Necro for your main hero.  Their high defense and Spell Power seems to be a pretty good match for the Dungeon troops.

OK, proven way to beat orcs. Multiple magic schools. I used destructive, sorcery, enlightenment(usual build) and in addition dark and summoning. Destructive helps you in creeping and those 2 other magic schools in final fight. You should take dark or light as soon as they appear (they will appear sooner or later). You desperately need slow (master of... slowness ) and confusion from dark, or haste from light. From summoning phoenix is a must have along with wasp swarm (arcane armour is a nice addition).

Yrwanna is a guaranteed mass slow if you happen to get dark and she's not a bad main except you won't have many stalkers. Anyway there's always arcane intuition to learn from own or hostile creatures.

hmm... I am wondering why people say that armageddon is a suck spell.
I always consisered it as a great one..some time it is the key to victory.
recently I play a game vursus a sylvan player on Mastic Vale. and I attack he in week 4. unfortunately it was the Week of Conjunction(triple of the growth for creatures and triple of the income..) so him could by a plenty of creatures and I can only buy the 14 deep hydras ,the 33 minotaurs and some stalkers and fruies because I spent a lot on the artifacts.While he has 1 Crystal Dragon.80 winddancer,15 silver unicorns , 16 elder druids ,177Brutes ,47 arcane archers and 38 spirits(I killed more than 100 spirits by HR..)
his dancer act before my furies and .....certainly.. my furies were gone.
and her spirits come to my stalkers so they can not use invisible.what is my pain is that his arcane archer kill 4 hydras in one hit.so I use the chain lightning (no meteor shower) to kill his archer first and use the single stalker to block to way to the hydra.and then when my hero get the second action. I use chain lightning to kill almost all his dancer(1 left), but my minotaur fell down too.when I gei my third action, I have ony 4 hydras left and 1 stalker. while he has 1 dragon, 10 unicorn,16 druid 70+Brutes and some spirit. I am almost in desperate thinking I will lose the game.But when I found the armageddon(1150 dam) in my book I find a way.none of his troop has the total HP more than 1000.I could kill them if the unicorns
dont resist my magic.I konw it was risky but I have no choice.So I cast the aemageddon and...luckly..I won the game
So I think armageddon is a great spell..especially again the sylvan.their troops come in low HP so you could kill them all easy.
for haven.. you can hit the stock with the highest HP and use the armageddon if necerssary.
all I want to say is armageddon can save your life sometimes ,it is worth to building the fifth guid.the other two spells are useful too

Interesting strategy for multiple schools for Dungeon.  If I am not mistaken light and summoning is low chance for them.  And getting most of the decent spells of those schools would require some luck also.

As orcs, you don't normally take shout except against Academy (in hopes of getting distract), so most likely they would have been unprepaired for such a risky strategy.  Then again, sometimes you have to take risks.  Should this become a popular strategy however, more Stronghold players will start taking shouts (and distract) vs dungeon (if offered).  It would be about the same chance as getting offered the multiple spell schools to dungeon and them finding decent spells.

Still it is a viable strategy vs orcs.  Multiple spell schools is one of the ways to go.  If they take multiple shatters they become a lot less effective (the orcs).  Much easier to do with academy, but very effective with dungeon vs orcs.  Hmm might even be effective against more towns.  Though they lack the mana of the academy, they have a lot more spellpower..people might start seeing how this plays against other towns.   to samiekl
