From page 302 of the manual:

IF A > D
Damage = Stack_Size * random(min_dmg, max_dmg) * [ 1 + 0.05*(A-D) ]

IF A < D

Damage = Stack_Size * random(min_dmg, max_dmg) / [ 1 + 0.05*(D-A) ]

I didn't see anything about terrain.

Edit: On their native terrain creatures get a +1 attack and +1 Defense. P.260

Will you guys have comments for the new creatures introduced in hammers of fate and tribes of east? I want to read your comments on the creatures. But either way you did a great job on the website it's helpful and good to read.

Question about Expansions

Hello, I bought Heroes 5 when it first came out, but just recently started playing it.  I do not have the Hammer or Tribes expansion yet.

The question I have is does installing the 2 expansions affect the orginal game at all?  For example, if I played all the way through the original Heroes 5 without expansions, would the gameplay be the same with expansions?  Or do the expanions add more features to the original game.

Just trying to decide if I should buy the expansions now, or wait until after I complete Heroes 5 campaigns.

ok i have a question i have played homm 3 on and off for a good amount of time i just bought homm 5. very dissapointed by the annoying graphix and camera that turns and you get lost and you dotn recognize the map.
anyway that is not the question.

i seem to be unable to win a game. is this becaus i truely suck or is it becaus the game is biased towards the AI? i have just finished a game where i played necropolis. vs 2 AI. i build my hero up and explored out of my corner of the map and came across AI#1. noticed he had tons of troops in his town and would only send a few out at a time with his heroes. so i waited flagged all his resources ambushed all the heroes he sent out and waited. i noticed his troops kept growing even tho he had no income. and this apears to be the case in every game i play. by the time i finally reach an AI town they have twice as many troops as i have. and no matter how many i train they still manage to have more then me.

help?

Well the AI does cheat a little, though I think the recent patches help this some (?).  It will pretty much never run out of funds even if you control the whole map I am afraid.  However, you might be able to lure it out with a 'sacrifice' hero and some troops..which would help.

If not, then at least the AI is not very bright.  You probably can still take it on.  First..any map that has external dwellings is Necropolips friend.  If you've flagged all the extrernal dwellings, send all the units to be converted and you should slowly outgrow until about equal.  If you have equal units, you should win no problem.  If your enemy is not undead (or Academy..academy can ruin your day)..make sure to frenzy and puppet master..make those stacks work for YOU.

If they are, hope for the artifact that allows mind effects to affect creatures.  You do have mass spells such as mass slow, mass confusion, etc right?  Oh and preferrably summoning (if you can) as well?  A phoenix with Arcane Armor can really turn the tide of battle..just make sure to take out anything like Wraiths first...and hope they don't have cold death if Academy..though AI usually doesn't use it to full effect.

In other words...limit your losses with raise dead, add to your units with flagged external dwellings, and use your spells to their best advantage is the only advice I can give.

Someone sets up network, tells you name and pass and you join. Impossible not to figure it out, interface is very simple.

Question about custom maps

Hi

I was wondering something about artifacts in custom maps. When I use the random map generator from tribes does it randomly choose some artifacts to be placed on the map from all possible artifacts or are some of them campaing only? For example would it be possible that some random generated map contains full artifact set?

Also does the template affect this somehow?

Breaking up monster stacks

Hey Guys, I am playing the original game, fully patched, but with no expansions.

The problem I am having is I can't seem to break up stacks of monsters.  I hold down shift like it says in the FAQ but it just picks up the whole stack.  

Is there something I am missing here?  I don't see anything on the actions bar about breaking up the stack either.

Please help!

By break you mean delete? There is an x or a scissors icon in the interface, also I think pressing delete after you've clicked the unit works.

Hello, no I meant breaking up a stack of 100 monsters into say two stacks of 50 monsters.  Is that possible to do?

No, how stacks are divided depends on the army you have when you attack them and maybe your level. The stronger your army the less the enemy stacks.

Sorry if I am not being clear.

Let's say I have 100 ghosts in my army.  I want to split those 100 ghost that are in my army into two stacks of 50 ghosts.  Is that possible to do?

I am not talking about the enemies army.

Oh right. You hold shift and drag & drop the unit portrait into another place. It will show a split screen where you can determine how many units you want to be in one stack and how many in the other.
