adding attack abilities to different creatures

Say I want to give bone dragons the ability to drain life like vampires do... is this even possible?

I've tried doing this:

<KnownSpells>
<Item>
<Spell>SPELL_ABILITY_LIFE_DRAIN</Spell>
<Mastery>MASTERY_ADVANCED</Mastery>
</Item>
</KnownSpells>

...in the bone dragon.xdb (both in the data and dataa1 directories
as a new .pak file and simply as a new folder in both of the above.

Doesn't seem to work no matter what I do....

Am I missing something or are attack skills like Life Drain just not transferable from one creature to another?

Only active abilities like spells can be transferred.  Things like life drain and unlimited retaliation would only work if you swapped the bone dragons model and stats to the vampires xdb file, and made it a level 6 monster.

That Gorgan is cute but he will still bite your nose off.

Thanks.

Too bad "active" skills can't be assigned the same way spells are...
