its a great idea but the dragons should stay together in their towns.

But i think once you've finished the campaigns you get a bonus campaign where the every dragon is rebelling againt their castles(bad phrasing) for some reason and they form thier own civilization thus THE DRAGON TOWN is born.

just an idea that could be better improved

If you ask me, this reminds me of the Chronicle where Tarnum battles Mutare.

what if...

Just to make this town a little more balanced:
Most of the Dragons have some kind of magic resistance. So it's a little unfair if the hero could use magic against the other army. Maybe the Dragon's army should only be commanded by heroes that could not use all the spells (some kind of limitation, level 3?).
Imagine using Dragon Strength in a stack of Azzure Dragons?
But i think that is better for the game's balanced to divide the dragon town the wait it was done in the rest of the series.

My idea of a dragon town

If a dragon town is to be made, I think it should include the following creatures:

Cultist: a humanoid combination of monk and assassian with scaled skin. If you are familiar with Robin Hobb's Tawny Man triology, you'd be able to imagine what I'm talking about. These people serve dragons and breed them, although they are mostly human. They are very weak units (after all, they are first level) who use daggers and have a small chance to poison their opponents. Cultists can be upgraded to Dragon Priests.
I think this look would be good for them:
http://www.legolas.org/llanowar-old/art/cultist1aw.gif

Lizardman: the HOMM3 lizardman archer. Upgraded to Lizardman Warrior.

Draconian: these creatures are borrowed from the Dragonlance saga. Large humanoid warriors looking a lot like Lizardmen but with wings. They are armed with spears and have a high defense. Draconians can be upgraded to Draconian Warriors.

Hatchling: a young dragon. Does not yet have his breath weapon and cannot fly, although he has wings. Hatchlings can be upgraded to Young Dragons.

Dragon Rider: a lizardman with a lance riding a small winged dragon. Can be upgraded to Dragon Lord.

Swamp Dragon: a fat and wingless green dragon with poison breath. Can be upgraded to Jungle Dragon.

Dragon: a red dragon, can be upgraded to a black dragon.

Sounds like Age of Wonders, but I guess the developers were influenced by Dragonlance and other stuff themselves:

This is my idea for a dragon flavoured town.

---

Confederation.

Otherwise known as the Draconic Confederation. This is a race of humans who some time in their distant past began worshipping dragons as gods. In turn, the opportunistic Dragons seized this weakness in the humans and forged their own nation whereby Dragons rule and are server by their human thralls.

The Dragons of the Draconic Confederacy are pompous and arrogant -- even towards their own. These Dragons believe that all other Dragons are either ignorant or fools that they don't seize the power they could and actually befriend humans and other lesser races.

Level 1 Unit - Dragon Thrall.

A human soldier who has been entralled by his draconic masters. He serves his masters unquestioningly and loyally even if he is not that competant. Some Dragon Thralls give themselves over willingly but others are compelled by draconic magic.

A human soldier, using basic weaponry. They would wear basic metal armor.
Upgraded version could have a more fearsome look, perhaps a helmet designed off dragon wings or something similar.

Special ability: When peasants or human troops join a Dragon Confederation army and are brought back to the town, they can be converted to Dragon Thralls (They must be human). (would need to have a special structure built for this.)

Level 2 Unit - Hatchling Abomination

Centuries of slothlike living and abuse of evil magics have caused the Dragons of the Confederations offspring to often be born twisted and deformed. The high dragons use these twisted draconic abominations to bolster the ranks of their armies.

I'm thinking a small twisted version of a dragon. Wings too small to fly, perhaps oversized jaws. Scrawny.
Upgraded versions could be larger and more powerful looking.

Special Ability: Resistant to magical effects (both friendly and unfriendly) due to the magical nature of their deformation.

Level 3 Unit - Dragon Thrall Archer

Some Dragon Thralls show the potential to be more then mere cannon fodder. These humans train with the bow and give the Confederations armies some much needed ranged support.

This would be your standard archer. I imagine ornate bows, probably longbows. They would have one arm covered in metal and one arm that has bare skin. Similar armor to the Thralls however slightly fancier.

Level 4 Unit - Half-Dragon Knight

Over centuries of coexistance, some of the Draconic masters used their twisted magic to procreate with their human worshippers. This yielded a half-breed race that is more powerful then your standard thrall. Combining partial draconic strength with human reproduction. These Half-Dragon knights are trained to use their strength to their advantage and make up a potent strike force of the Draconic Confederacies armies.

I imagine that these would be similar to the swordsmen/crusaders of Homm3s Castle. They would be larger then a standard human unit, with a large sword. The upgraded version would have wings.

Level 5 Unit - Draconic Magician.

Some of the High Dragons decided that they wished to forsake their draconic bodies and brute strength to satiate their unnnatural hunger for the arcane arts. These High Dragons have used twisted spells to permanently morph their bodies into a mix between dragon and humanoid. In this form, they can easily access the multitude of magical lore locked up in scrolls and ancient texts.

These would be the second ranged attackers. I imagine a hunched over robed figure, with a dragons pointed nose and mouth sticking out from under the hood. Twisted clawed fingers. Similar to the Magi of the Tower in Homm3, no melee penalty as they would have claws.

Level 6 Unit - Draconic Cavalier

Among the High Dragons, it is considered a coming of age ritual for young dragons to march (fly?) with the Confederacies armies for a number of years before they take their rightful spot as commanders and rulers. These young dragons take a human thrall as a rider, however each dragon usually goes through multiple thralls a week without thinking twice about it.

I'm thinking a flying unit, with the dragon being smaller then your usual dragon (hence younger). The riders would carry lances. The riders lance would only be used for active attacks and for retaliations it would be the dragons breath attack.

Special ability: Whilest making a charge attack, these units do extra damage.

Level 7 Unit - High Dragon

A very few of the high dragons actually find that they like to go on the battlefield and test their skills against the lesser races.

The only true "Dragon Unit" for my idea. This would be your standard Dragon, I'm thinking that these dragons would wear ornamental armor or other such decorations as a sign of their arrogance and greed after centuries of being worshipped as gods.

Special ability: Bolster Thralls. When there is atleast one High Dragon on the field, all Thralls and Thrall Archers have increased stats.

Heroes

I was thinking that the Might hero could be a full sized dragon and the magic hero, an obviously more gifted Draconic Magician.

---

I'm sure you could all expand upon my idea, it was only a basic idea I had. I thought that one of the reasons that a "dragon town" sounded a bit stupid was because it would further dilute the mystique that dragons are powerful creatures. However, as you can see by my idea, this need not be so. I created a dragon themed town, whilest you still need to get to level 7 creatures to have a true "dragon unit" like we know it.

I hope you like my idea... be nice, this was my first post

hold up

great first post zekal, looks like u put in effort. but there can be 2 views taken.

view 1:i have 1 problem where are the classics?!?!
i know alot, and by that i mean not much, but shouldnt a dragon town have at least 1 dragon we know and love. your dragon town doesnt have 1 dragon that i have heard of.and the "draconic magician" seems to be a modified fairy dragon. other units like the dragon cavilier are just caviliers that look like dragons, and the half dragon knight is just another version of the swordsmen/crusaders.

view 2: nice
the descriptions are suberb and so is the originality. the specials could be improved but its a great idea.
i love the hatchling abomination and high dragon and that dragons think there are the best.

personally i side with view 1 but dont feel bad, i think we are all just dreamers in a dragon town hoping it will be made

keep those posts coming zekal

Yeah, well, I could have posted special abilities for all the units but my post was getting very long!

With the no classic dragons... I was thinking along the lines that they would exist too, just that they wouldn't be aligned with this nation.

The other dragons would be the "lazy" ones that the high dragons despise.

Anyways, thanks for the reply, constructive critique is always a good thing

If anything, my idea shows what a difference flavour text can make... really gets the imagination flowing
