So before we do any character development, we sorta like test out our characters and everything with our posts, getting to know everything, introducing the into the world, and all that?

Yes, that's the idea. The character development will be imbedded in the practice writing (Short Story Contest).

Yeah, sure, why not.  School is almost over. ^_^ Senioritis is kicking in. 
I'm a neutral mercenary. (I seem to rather like that occupation, huh? )

Age: 24
Occupation: Huntress/mercenary
Specialties: Recurve bows and long thin rapiers. She can't really use magic by itself, but she knows how to imbue elemental spells into weapons that she wields. And she know minor healing magic on the side.
Strengths: Very fast and very observant. Nothing escapes her attention.
Weakness: Too much pride. Doesn't know when to cut her losses, and doesn't take failures well.
Alignment: Neutral, but slight preference for good.

No no no. People. You don't have to have submitted an ICTC town in order to submit something for the short story contest.
Just write a scene or two about your character, or maybe write a story about one of the kingdoms. We're just developing backstory.

Sox, I thought this was a totally different RP to your ICTC short story one...

I just read page 2
Do you really need to combine this with the ICTC, I'm not trying to be negative, but they seem like 2 seperate entities to me - the ICTC characters are different - the factions are different than HOMM...
This would mean a lot of back reading for rpers... and some will have to change characters maybe... Also it will take a chunk of time to write a short story and may put people off.
I'll butt out now

No one will have to change characters. Anyone who joins the contest can write about anything they want. It doesn't have to be about ICTC. It just has to be about a Homm-like world.
The short story will let anyone write about whatever they want.
Also I don't think it would require a lot of back reading or hardly any backreading for that matter.

I don't see any need to combine the two either. It seems like it would be a lot simpler, not to mention more cohesive for the story and characters, if we were to post whatever character introduction we would have posted in the short story thread in here instead. I trust that both ideas can grow and flourish on their own, and this way, people won't need to commit to both if they are feeling they only want to join in on one or the other. I mean, it certainly is viable to use the characters here to build a short story for the contest, but I don't think it should be a prerequisite to posting in the RP thread.

Alright well, I was just trying to see if we could work something out. I can see everyone's point. I guess I'd be asking too much at this point. However I will still encourage everyone to join the contest as I think it would be fun.
I'm going to include several categories for submission, including Short Story, Scene Writing, and Flash Fiction, which is more like a sliver of a scene. I think flash fiction would be an excellent way for people to practice posting in RPs.

Specialties: Master of Mind-Can hypnotize one creature or hero, once per long time. After it, I will take me some time to refill magical power for the next hypnosis.

I thought the basic idea of Vokial's plot idea was quite good. It inspired me to create my own hero. And develop part of the world.

Basically I decided to develop the wild abandoned kingdom full of artifacts.
Jeremiah Gazrig was born on the eastern most island of the Dagger Wound Isles, Tritia. It was home to the last of the indigenous people who once ruled over all the islands.
Nearly two hundred years ago, the corruption began.
The young Prince Pridoso III went mad with power killing his father and taking the throne for himself. Weilding the Dagger of the Seas, he cast a spell over the people turning them into a vicious race of Naga. The once noble creatures that defended the land were corrupted and twisted into shadows of their former selves.
A man named John Gazrig still noble to the former King rallied those who had not yet been taken by the curse and fought the twisted armies of the new King Pridoso. After a few weeks, they were able to storm the King's castle and slit his throat, but the curse remained. The people were still twisted and hostile. And the creatures were just as deadly as before.
For 200 years they fought the neverending onslaught. After 100 years, the corrupted forces of Prince Pridoso had pushed the rebels out of every island except for Tritia. For the next 80 years, they held off any attack sent at them. The flying serpents were shot down out of the sky. They summoned water elementals to fight the sea serpents that threatened their harbors.
But that year a strange thing happened. The attacks stopped. It was as if the spirit of Prince Pridoso had grown weary, his will to exterminate them has ceased. For 10 years, the people who had known nothing but war had found peace. And for the first time the Tritians felt the will and courage to explore their lost and forgotten homes.
Upon the exploration, they came to find enemies even more powerful at their doorstep. Entire islands had been burnt to the ground. Buildings completely obliterated to rocks and dust no larger than a pebble.
It was a sad sight to see. The Tritians never knew that the buildings hadn't been preserved after their refuge to Tritia.
Jeremiah Gazrig now leads armies into the heart of the Dagger Wound Isles in search of revenge for the devestation left behind. Strangely enough he came to find not the corrupted forces of Prince Pridoso, but the spirits of those who had died. Completely passive the spirits were. Only acknowledging their presence and only in hostility if provoked.
The cause of such events has remained a mystery, and Jeremiah is determined to find its cause.
