God's existence or lack thereof is irrelevant

Seriously, what's it to you?

If God exists, then he's supposed to be infinitely wise, which means that he wouldn't be yelling "ACKNOWLEDGE MY EXISTENCE GODDAMNIT!" like a stupid brat.

If God doesn't exist, then boo ****ing hoo. You'll have to manage on your own instead of hoping that a higher power will pull you out of the crap you may or may not be in.

Apparently this Pascal dude argued that it is more profitable to believe in God, because if he turns out to exist, the payoff is huge, while you don't lose anything if he doesn't.
Well, I think that no self-respecting God would let such a scheming bastard get away with this kind of behaviour.

In the end, it makes you no difference. Pick a side, and you'll get annoyed by the morons on the other side of the fence. Is it worth the fuss?

Well, it is important because those who belive tend to be less tolerant of other people. If no one belived in god, we would have no church. If there were no church, such things as homophobya, religious persecution, religious war and so on would not exist, or at least would be greatly diminished.

On the other hand, atheists tend to be more open-minded, since they do not adhere to religious moral beliefs (ex: the ten commandements for christians). The downside is that, of course, the lack of fear of divinity may make non-belivers quite immoral.

Lord_Woock is right in that there is no reason to argue about it but it does matter for most people. I won't say if it is rational or not but when one's choices are based on the existence or not of God then it's no wonder they care.

There are many things such as homophobia, racism etc that would exist in one way or another-it's just that the church or any church takes the role of spreading them or creating them indirectly whether it is intentional or not. Let's not get into that, in the end it doesn't matter that much.

About atheists I believe so myself(I have met some and respect them as much as anyone-though not all are as open minded as they think) as I do about the non-believers. Some people are kept in line and aren't as harmful to their environment as they would be. You may say that it would be their own choice but I don't want every idiot or senseless killer to interfere with my life. Most people need some guidance or something that doesn't allow them to go bad due to fear of consequences. I do not deny the obvious downsides of religions but I'm afraid that things would be worse otherwise.

I believe, and yet I'm more tolerant than most others on many issues. It's kinda like my diplomatic side, as I think sympathetically in most situations. An odd balance, to be sure, although it makes for more peaceful encounters with various people.

I do not deny this. The thing is that in either way there will be terrible downsides.

I know that full well and don't expect a favourable treatment. Everyone is subject to their actions and chance as far as I am concerned.
