After discussing some minor details with the king, Aeldon watched Dagda Mor train Amy. He couldn't see that coming; he agreed with the plan thinking that Amy will stay withing the walls, recovering her healing powers. This way, with her life at risk, he had to think of something else.

"We cannot let her out there, she will get killed."

Well, she is well trained now. The demon has experience on such things.

"Nevertheless, no matter how physically strong she is, it will be the demons she'll be fighting. No matter how strong her body armor is, one blow in the head and she will go down, and I can't let that happen again."

Do you have a better idea then?"

"Let me think... The demons attack at morning, right?"

Yes... G'Ibson said carefully.

"Meaning they are still preparing?"

Yeees? G'Ibson said, sensing something.

"...Meaning they don't expect an assault?"

Oh for Heaven's sake...

"We can decimate them so much in a surprise assault that they give up the siege. Am I right?"

Technically, yes, but it won't really matter since you'll probably just get yourself butchered in dozens of pieces.

"You said that the last twenty times too," Aeldon said, winking.

Then he sneaked out the walls and started tracking the demons.

Dagda Mor left Amy, and walked to a closed room. He sat down and closed his eyes, pain. He laft his body to travel in spirit form, he went for the demon army first. He found them quickly, they gathered all the demons from the lands around. The last days they hadn't been gathered, and now they filled the whole forest, the trees weren't enough to hide them all. Mwellrets also emerged, coming from the mountains in the north. These half-lizard/half-humans were shapeshifters, and could be either big or small, tall or low. They joined forces, their evil almost equal, backstabbers all of them. There were hundreds of thousands of demons and mwellrets, the elves would probably die this day...

"What are these things?" Aeldon whispered, after seeing a strange humanoid lizard patrolling the forest.

Ah, those. Interesting thingies. I think they're called Mewelerteretwurels or something. They can shapeshift into whatever suits them. Quite agile, too. Perfect spies and assassins, green bastards.

"Right... I'd better be careful then."

As soon as Aeldon finished that sentence, about 50 Mwellrets came out of the darkness, surrounding him. Before he could take up G'Ibson, he felt blunt pain in his forehead. As he fell down, he could hear G'Ibson saying:

The irony is simply painful.

***

"Awake, scum!" a rough voice yelled.

Aeldon slowly opened his eyes. He wasn't sure how much time had passed, but it was still dark so it couldn't have been longer than a couple of hours.

Chained to a wooden stake, Aeldon could see that he was in a forest clearing, along with several high demons which represented priests. Other demon troops were deployed in the surrounding woods, waiting in anticipation. Some of the trees were already cut down for demonic war purposes.

In the middle of a clearing stood a huge daemon rune written in blood. Demon priests were chanting around it, except the one which talked to Aeldon.

Aeldon... over here. Don't talk.

Aeldon glanced at another high demon, holding G'Ibson. It was obvious that the demon couldn't control it; he was even feeling uncomfortable by just holding it.

It seems like we're pretty screwed this time. Tried to tell you but you wouldn't listen...

Neither Aeldon nor G'Ibson could do anything - demon armies were countless; the lizard creatures empowered it greatly. Even the elves in the city did not stand a chance.

The demon decided to speak again.

"Your suffering shall be legendary..."

He took out a ritual dagger.

"Legendary enough to summon forth a power so great that it will give us the edge over Dagda Mor!"

They're summoning a... NO! AELDON!

Lightnings sprayed desperately out of the guitar as the ritual blade got stuck in Aeldon. The demon was pushed back, and Aeldon's chains broke. Aeldon fell on his knees and started crawling. He had to reach G'Ibson... He could feel sharp pain in his stomach, and blood pouring out from him. Finally he could move no more, and he just stopped and laid on his back in despair.

His life was taken, the Elven city would fall; he had failed. He just waited for a demon to come and finish him off.

However there were none.

Aeldon? Uhm... I don't know how to tell you this, but... You really shouldn't be there.

Aeldon coughed. "Why?" he asked, with his final strength.

Well... You're in the middle of the Rune... I don't know, but I'm pretty sure people shouldn't be there.

As Aeldon's blood soaked the earth, a strong rumble was heard. He could feel his body being lift off, flames engulfing him and his soul acheing.

Oh dear.

A loud, furious roar was heard and everything stopped in a second. Aeldon fell on the ground, in pain, but alive. He gathered the strength to look around, and he noticed that there was no more blood. There was nothing except several demons, with strange looks in their face.

Standing up on his knees, Aeldon crawled to G'Ibson and took it, since the demon who held it dropped it and pulled back.

"Wha..." Aeldon's lungs hurt. He deciced to push on with his question. "What ha... happened?"

A damn good question.

"Who is that? G'Ibson?"

Um... No, I'm still trying to figure out what happened.

"Then who was that?"

And who are YOU?

"I am Aeldon Sorrowleaf" Aeldon felt his strength return.

Were you the sacrifice?

"I guess..."

Then how come I'm stuck in YOUR body?

"Beats me..."

This is so frustrating.

Of course it's frustrating! One moment I'm in my astral plane, the other I'm in a body of some half-elf that was supposed to be a sacrifice to me!

Wait... You are a demon?

Not just any demon. I am Zylphegor, the Archdemon of the Seventh Circle of torment. And I SHALL NOT BE IMPRISONED IN A BODY OF A HALF ELF!

Aeldon subconsciously spread his arms in fury and two huge fireballs sprayed out from them, killing 5 surrounding demons and lizards. The others pulled back even more, in panic.

"Well... I'm sorry, I guess. I don't know how that happened."

He stood in the middle of the rune.

You... WHY THE HELL DID YOU STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RUNE?!

"Could you stop yelling please?"

I think it would be best if we head back to town to... well... try to figure out what happened here.

"Right... Definitely."

Having said that, Aeldon took G'Ibson and tumbled towards the city, past the demons who just stood and watched, in cautious confusion.

Dagda Mor gasped, Aeldon! He hadn't drawn back from the camp yet, and now he saw that mwellrets carried his body out of the forest. He were alive, Dagda Mor went closer. They carried him to a wooden stake and chained him there. Then someone punched him, and said "Awake scum!" There were some talking, before one of the high priests took forth a sacrifice-knife. No! Dagda Mor thought. They stabbed him in the stomach and he fell to the ground. They were summoning Zylphegor, the only demon that had ever dared to challenge Dagda Mor in an open battle. Dagda Mor had won because of luck, Zylphegor was far more powerful than him. Especially now as Dagda Mor was weakened after the last battle. But by some reason the arch demon didn't appear, but Aeldons eyes went white. It's alive inside him. Dagda Mor thought in despair, But it cannot control him yet. Aeldon stumbled against the city after sending fire into the demons. He were coming, but not knowing that he shouldn't do so. Dagda Mor withdrew his spirit and opened his eyes, then he walked to the gates to meat Aeldon and help him get through this hell.

Aeldon entered through the city gates. His strength was almost fully regenerated. The voices inside him drew him nearly insane.

So you're a divine instrument?

Sort of. The Gods created me for playing music, and then sent me to the mortal world for some reason. Might've as well dropped me accidentally.

Interesting. I never truly understood music... I mean, they sacrificed bards to me, but they weren't in the mood for singing.

I can imagine. What happens when a person is sacrificed anyway?

Well, I eat them. I eat their souls and then they're forever trapped inside me.

Ah. That sounds... jolly.

It's pretty healthy for the digestive tract. You should try it sometime.

Nah. I'm more of those, you know, good guys. We tend not to eat people's souls.

Meh. Goodies and their principles...

Dagda Mor appeared in front of Aeldon.

"Aeldon! How are you feeling?"

"Well besides the fact that I currently share a mind with a demon and a guitar, I'm feeling perfect."

"I saw what happened... I couldn't arrive in time to help you. Come, we must find a way to banish Zylphegor from you."

Finally. Wait... is that Mor? Dagda Mor?

"Um, yes?" Aeldon said.

MOR! I know you can hear me! I owe you a defeat and eons of humiliation!

"Yes, yes you do" Dagda Mor said with a defiant smile.

Kill this bard! Set me free so that we can finish this!

"No. I am not killing Aeldon. I am not killing anyone for personal accounts anymore" Dagda Mor replied.

Zylphegor's roar was horrifying.

Dude... Chill... We'll let you out somehow.

YOU ARE A COWARD, MOR! YOU ALWAYS WERE! I WILL GET EVERYTHING BACK AT YOU!

"No" Aeldon said. "As long you are confined inside me, you will not do anything unless you help us."

You are blackmailing me, boy?

"Exactly."

"Aeldon" Dagda Mor said, "that is insane. Zylphegor is too treacherous to help. He will take over your mind in the matter of time, and that is the last thing we want."

"Not as long as I am soulbound to an artefact of divine power. Right, G'Ibson?"

You think an instrument can hold ME at bay? ME? THE MASTER OF THE...

...seventh circle of torment. We heard that already. And you can suck this instrument's...

"ANYWAY" Aeldon said, as loud as he could, to silence G'Ibson's cursing. "I am proposing a deal. You help us against your kin. You assist us in destroying them and banishing them from this world forever. Then... I shall release you."

"Aeldon!" Dagda Mor yelled. "I am not sure if I can..." he stopped. He didn't want to let Zylphegor know that he beat him with pure luck last time. "To release him, you must kill yourself!"

"A small price to pay for purging the demons from this world forever. I kill myself, thus releasing him; and you two get to battle each other until the end of time, if you want - just without endangering anyone else."

Dagda Mor was silent. Even G'Ibson didn't say anything. Finally, a voice was heard.

It's a deal.

Amy could feel the anger boiling inside of her.  She had never felt this like this.  The .... things .. out there had killed without mercy, and now she was helpless.  The one thing that had set her apart, had made her valuable in this fight, was stripped away.  Now it looked as if she might loose another ally to the demons.

She had dedicated her life to healing and helping others.  Regardless of their background, or intentions, if they were injured, she would heal them.  Men, women, child, beast, it mattered not.  She tried to sooth their pain.  Now, she was prepairing to cause that pain, as much of it as she could.  It felt good, real good.  The heft of the weapons, the feel of the armor, she felt ... at home.  That is when she noticed something.  Her hand had somehow gotten filthy.  She took water and rinsed it off, but the black was still there. She scrubbed, but the black only seemed to grow.  Only the thin strip of white next to her wrist remained.

A whispery voice, somewhere in her head spoke to her. "Child, turn back from this path, it will only lead to your death.  It is not too late, revenge is not such as you.  Come back to the light."

"Why should I?  Death is all around me, hatred and cruelty is all that I see.  Violence only understands violence." she replied aloud.  The people around her looked at her odly, but none wished to question her.  She had saved many of their lives, let her be odd if she wished.

"Darkness only feeds those outside these walls.  There is another way. It will take you and both of your comrades, but it can be done."

"Who are you, what are you?  Where do you speak to me from?" she demanded.

"I have had many names, and will have many more.  Suffice to say I am the Dragon of Light, at least here in this place.  You bare my mark, and were my chosen.  Have faith, I will not desert you now."

It was as if the weight of the world was lifted off of Amy's shoulders and she knew what she must do.  She found Dagda and Aeldon.  "Get the warriors ready.  We don't wait for them to come to us.  We will go to them.  In one hour."

Dagda Mor didn´t have words, this woman were telling them to attack that overwhelming force!

"No!" he said, "We will be killed, they are more than hundred times our army!"

Then he noticed something, she was different. She seemed more sure about herself.

"But if that´s what you wish, let it be so." he finished.

Such a glow in her eyes... She knows something we don't.

"Very well. If they are going, we shall follow. Are you up to the task, Zylph?" Aeldon asked, a sarcastic smile on his face.

Zylphegor laughed.

I am starting to like you, mortal. Pity you will have to give up your life afterwards.

"Don't worry, I have it all planned out" Aeldon said, winking. "It might not be my time to go yet."

You rely on the woman healer to resurrect you? Hah. She is on the edge... She might give up her healing spirits to embrace the forces of destruction any time now.

There is a much greater power behind her than it seems. Can't you sense it?

Nevertheless... It is up to her to choose which path to take. Both would embrace her open-handedly, and both will call her. Even I can never know what side she'll choose. But for your sake, bard, pray that she goes with the light.

Hey, look at it on the bright side, the worst thing that can happen is that you die.

"Well that's comforting to know" Aeldon said. "But enough with the speculations. Fortune has smiled upon me so many times, it might as well work out now."

Fair enough. Let us go now. Time to grind some of my wretched kin to dust!

Most of the troops thought her mad, and perhaps she was.  After all she was listening to a voice only she could hear.  She was leading a small army into the clutches of an army that could probably blot out the sun.  Beside her was a demon, and a bard with two voices in his head.  Yeah, they were probably right, she probably was nuts.  Hiding in behind flimsy walls didn't seem like a much saner choice, however, and if she was going to die, she'd rather get it over with.

"You two, keep close to me.  I have to get close to the center of this mess." she didn't look back to see if they heard her.  She called "OPEN THE GATES".

As soon as the gates crashed down there was a deafening silence.  The demon army stood there for a moment, not sure what was transpiring.  Then, Amy charged forward.  The others almost didn't move, still a bit stunned at this.  As if something broke, they all surged forward.  The battle was on.

As expected the demons sent the expendable demons first.  The smallest, and weakest of their kind, to tire them out.  Wave after wave surged toward them.  At first not a one could get past Dagda or Aeldon.  Like a wall, they slaughtered anything before it could even reach Amy.  There was so many, however, and eventually they got through.

As they slowly moved forward, Amy struck with the weapons given her.  Suprisingly she was doing quite well.  More still, larger, but not the elite demons..yet started surging forward.  Her two compatriots knew these were a bigger threat and started concentrating on them, letting Amy take the smaller demons.  Little by little they were able to nick, cut, and scratch at her.  She was getting tired and weak.

First one weapon fell, her arm too tired to swing it any more.  Then the other.  Yet even her bare hands seemed to be able to do the job.  Maybe Dagda had trained her better then she thought.  Unfortunately for each life she took, her hand grew blacker and blacker.  The sliver of white did get brighter and resisted the blackness, but for how long would be the question.

Dagda Mor watched the healer do what she had never done before; she killed. It would maybe be enough to consume her, the power of healing would maybe be gone after this day, the power of destruction would control her. Then she dropped a sword, and Dagda Mor moved for her, but she still fought good as any soldier, even better. Then she lost the last one, and started using her fists. Dagda Mor burned a circle around him, he now had more than twenty feet clear area around him. He were free to do almost whatever he wanted, the demons were afraid of him. Then mwellrets came, they came marching against them, huge and terrifying. They carried Moon Shields, shields made in the center of the earth, able to resist his fire.

"Aeldon!" he roared, the bard came running. "I will need your help on those mwellrets."

Aeldon nodded, and turned against them. The mwellrets marched against them, untouched by anyone.

"Now!" Dagda Mor whispered.

Aeldon sprinted into the mwellrets, scattering them. Then Dagda Mor joined him, stabbing down those who tried to resist his fire, burning the rest. He looked back at Amy, and his eyes widened in shock. The silver on her hand were shining, but were suppressed by darkness. She were slowly losing herself into the killing. He ran for her, and burned down all demons around her. The demons didn't come closer, but stood in a circle; roaring, hissing and growling.

"You need to come with me inside the wall, Amy." Dagda Mor said, "You must not lose your healing powers."

She looked at him without recognizing him, and punched him. He fell backward, and rose up again.

"You are a good fighter, but the darkness consumes you." he whispered, "I will not let it happen!"

The silver was gone, her hands shone with black light. She glared at him in rage.

"You are nothing!" she hissed, "You cannot control me, I do as I want!"

Her hand pulsing with dark power, she turned back toward the army of demons.  Raising her hand, she slowly closed it making a fist, and a group of them just exploded.  Others started turning on their own kin now controlled by her will.

The power was intoxicating.  She started to once again walk toward the center of the army. Unhindered this time, fear keeping even the strongest of demons away.  As she went, she removed her helm.  Her hair, once blond, had turned raven black.  Next was the armor, she would not be needing it any more.  All she wore was her simple healers tunic.

Excitement rippled through the demons.  The dark power that was consuming her could be felt.  Soon they would have a new leader.  One capable of crushing these rabble swiftly.  Then, that excitement turned to fear.  Something was wrong.

The triangle.  Ancient mystical properties had long been associated with it.  Standing in the middle of the demonic army, she had put herself into possition so that she, Dadga, and the bard were in a triangle formation.  She had purposely allowed the dark energy in for a reason.  Now, it was time.

Light turned dark, dark turned light, and one caught inbetween.  Balance..in all things.  The world was out of balance, and that had to be corrected.  Everything was in place.  Dadga was of the dark who had forsaken it for the light.  Amy was of the light, willingly sacrificing it to regain the balance.  Caught in between was the elf.  His instrument was good, but he was possessed by an ancient evil.

"NOW" is all Amy says.  Dark energy pours from her.  It is met by energy from Dadga and Aeldon.  Amy knew they could not defeat the demon army.  Even with all of their strength.  There were too many.  She didn't have to defeat them, however, just make them leave.

A mist starts to form in the middle of the Triangle.  The demons rush the three, but a barrier seems to keep them out of the Triangle.  They assult the barrier with frenzied strength, they may make it through before the summons is complete.  They know it will not matter, but maybe they will be able to kill the three before whatever is being summoned arrives.

Aeldon stopped fighting. He didn’t know why, he simply got paralyzed by something he could not see or think of. It wasn’t painful, but it wasn’t pleasant either. It was just unresolvable. He tried to say, or do, something, but couldn’t.

The triangle!

Here? Now?! It cannot be!

Take a look around...

Demons desperately tried to break the triangle, but it was to no avail. Amy, Dagda and Aeldon were ethereal now – otherworldly and untouchable.

Indeed... I never would’ve guessed it would end here...

Everything ends.

True. But it just seems too soon...

The channeling energy just poured from the three in beams of light and darkness, settling in one huge circle of myst in the middle of the triangle. The skies went gray, and the colours of the world became pale. After some time, all that remained were shadows in white and black.

Hah. It seems I am not destined to take your soul after all, bard.

A shape finally arose from the circle. It was astonishingly tall, and its mere presence filled both demons and elves with awe. Though it could not be fully defined, it seemed like a beautiful young girl in an elegant gray robe, her eyes closed. In her hands it held ornamented scales, adorned in countless marks and radiating with all sorts of strange lights and colours.

Well, bard, Zylphegor said in a resigned, yet respectful voice, I present you the Lady of Creation, the Mistress of Balance, the Maiden of Justice...

Aureola... It has been millions of years... And she is still as astounding as ever.

Aureola glanced around herself. Elves bowed with respect, and demons fell on their knees. Then she raised her scales.

Dagda Mor remained on his feet as one of the few, his creator was here. He nodded against her, and smiled. She smiled back, she understood he had finally decided to do what she created him to do. To keep justice up, to protect against destruction and death. He closed his eyes, she was here. He walked over to her.

"Have you come to end the war?" he whispered, looking her into the eyes.

He were probably one of the few that dared to meat her gaze, she nodded to him and smiled.

"Yes, Dagda Mor." she answered, her voice was like the nature, it gave a feeling of peace and safety.

"You can save the bard?" Dagda Mor whispered, "Bring out Zylphegor?"

"You know what I am capable of, Dagda Mor." she said to him, "I can do anything, as long as it has a reason."

"This has a reason." he said, "He fought bravely, he fought to save lives and it ruined his own."

"I know this, Dagda Mor, my son of darkness." she said.

Dagda Mor looked down, darkness, she took him as evil even after he had changed side and fought his own race.

"What do I have to do to be of light?" he whispered, his voice almost not audible.

"You killed your love." Aureola said, "You will have to become what you were first created as again, so does your heart, because your heart has changed."

"I..." Dagda Mor's lips moved, but no sound came.

"You don't remember." she said, and smiled. "Your darkness have erased the memories of the good old days."

"I were abandoned!" he roared, elves moved backward. A clash of these two lords of life and death would mean the end of the world.

"I abandoned you, yes." she said, still calm. "But because you wanted the same power as I had."

"I have power, but no one can get the same as you have." he hissed, "You used me as a messenger, I meant nothing to you."

"Dagda Mor." she whispered, this soft voice scared Dagda Mor. "You were one of my first creations, of course you mean something."

"But please tell me what I was." Dagda Mor whispered, his met hers again.

"You were what you started fighting." she said, "You were an elf, the essence of life itself, and so you shall be."

Then she lifted her hands, and he were engulfed in light. His body lifted from the ground, a second it felt like he were being ripped apart. He screamed, his skin turned lighted and he fell down again. He struck the ground, and didn't rise. He were unconscious.

Aureola turned toward Aeldon.

"Look me in the eyes, half elf."

Aeldon did so. Aureola raised her hand and whispered something. Zylphegor roared. Then he said, astonishingly calmly:

Back to my realms then. It was a fun experience. Perhaps we meet again, bard.

Aeldon saw a flash of red light and the demon disappeared. Aureola then spoke to him.

"You have fought against the darkness however you could, Aeldon. Without selfishness, without fear. And you lost everything in the process. Despair not, the souls of your mother and your comrades are at my side, in the Halls of Eternity. As for you, your destiny has placed you to represent the Balance in the Triangle of Faith. You have followed your destiny, and will continue to do so to the very end. Now you will be honoured fittingly. Your new home shall be the sky, and your new friends - the stars. You will be freed from this world, into the bliss of the universe. You shall become a thought, an idea, and your spirit shall be free forever."

Aeldon listened to all this carefully. Then G'Ibson said:

Am I going with him?

"Yes, G'Ibson. You shall accompany Aeldon. With him, you will return to the stars that you came from."

Cool. I mean, it will be my honour.

"But we cannot know what the future holds" Aureola continued. "You may be called upon to this world again. You will know when the time comes. Though that is another story. Farewell, Aeldon and G'Ibson."

She waved her scales and Aeldon felt his spirit rise. He looked at Amy and Dagda Mor. Amy was oblivious, and Dagda unconscious. It was a pity that he couldn't say goodbye to them... But then again, perhaps he would return one day. Then he took G'Ibson and played his final tune on that world, while rising to the cosmic depths.

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day youll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the suns gone to hell
And the moons riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But its written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms...

Dagda Mor awakened, his body were new, and he looked like a young elf. The elven king had fallen in the battle, and now the elves looked at him with a new hope. He had sacrificed everything he was for them, he could be their new king! He accepted the offer, and as a first thing to do he made an alliance with the demons; they were now friends, as they knew that their sworn leader had been both elf and demon. A new time was coming, a time of peace and friendship between two such different beings. Elves of life, and demons of death. Love and hate being as one, under the leader who controlled both. The master of the Staff of Power was the leader of the greatest nation in the world now. He had fought his whole life, which were longer than any other except the Lady of Creations herself, and were now a finished being. He were happy.

Balance...in all things .  Amy heard a voice, but when she tried to look around all she saw was grey.  Endless, formless grey.

"I don't understand.." she said..or rather tried to say.  She heard the words, but they seemed to come from her mind more then her mouth.  "Am I dead?"

You exsist here, not in the mortal world, for now

"Am I dead then?  What is this place, where is this place."

Such limited thinking, that will pass.  You are not dead, you are just not..alive..

"NO! I can not be one of the undead!"

She hears what sounds like a sigh.   Child! You are not undead. You will understand..in time.  The balance has been corrected.  Neither evil or good has the upper hand.  All is as it should be.

"But I am a force for good.  I have struggled my whole life to rid the world of any evil I came accross." Amy was really confused now.

You were a force for good...yes.  Dadga is now that force.  Aeldon has accended to be part of the neutral force known as balance.  Sadly child that only leaves one more force..

"But...but I can't be evil.  I hate hurting people, I could not bare to destroy.."

Again, you have such limited concepts.  Time will correct that.  You will not be ready for centuries, perhaps eons.  One day you might return to the physical realm, by then you will understand. Come child, you have much to learn.

Amy, confused and bewildered, finally realises she has no choice.  She follows the entity, whoever it maybe, off into the greyness.  What is to become of her?  When shall she return to the physical realm?  What will she become?  This world, or the one after may not ever know.
