Protections for our Schools

AGain today a raged college student at the University of Virginia Tech gunned down 21 kids then of course himself.
Even though it's not sure YET if he suicided or was gunned by the police.
The outcome is usually the same.
They kill then they kill themselves on campus.

There should be some kind of protection for the kids who wants to learn.
They are too young to worry about getting shot down when they should only be worrying about school.

Maybe some security.
I for one feel it everytime I read about some kid who has a rage & decides to end his life after he takes some kids & teachers with him or her.
SOmething should be done for the children & Teachers.
Way too many school shootings recently & there is no protections.
If there is, then apareantly there is not enough.

Are you sure they aren't undercover agents that are killed (or at least make it look that way) in an attempt to preserve the secret?

Thats why more protection is needed.
You wont know who a gunman is until it's either too late or you search a dorm or whatever to find any weapons.

I don't think you can add more protection -- that will either mean less freedom (non-democratic or sort-of) or simply won't work.

Why? In my opinion, people or terrorists will always find a breach, a flaw. Unless you have police all over the school which might either make children feel less 'safe' in their schools (since policeman are needed),  but even police are corrupt sometimes and may be bribed (at least in my country it happens A LOT).

I also read somewhere about some terrorists taking over a school and killing people there just for the sake of it (they didn't even kill themselves, they fought to their last breath, hoping to kill more). Btw even a tank was required to put them to rest

but that is of course only my opinion

Our school has loads of protection...

We have armed guards on the metal gates surrounding the school.

We need permission for everything we do.

We have rules for protection that are strict to the point of being silly.

And other similar stuff.

Still, I wonder, would any of this stop some psychotic student from killing his classmates?

I don't think so

So that could happen in our school too anyway

Then apareantly there is not enough.
I know school can be like a priison.

What can be done to protect the kids then.
Thats the real Q.
Too many shootings recently.

Have you ever wondered how come kids massively shoot each other only in USA? I mean, in other parts of the world, there may be some stabbing or something, but it usually ends up with one, maximally 2 victims. Not over 30.

There was a similiar accident in germany, although if I recall correctly, the mad student was gunned down before he killed anyone. It's not just US..

although it happens quite frequently in USA, yep. Perhaps because it's much easier to get a gun there than in europe.

Perhaps we should first ask ourselves why does the respective student make that act?

Maybe because he dont like the teacher but some of the kids get in the way.
If I remember right on one of the incidents recently.
That was one of the reasons.

I know that Canada had several of the crazy shooting cases, however we don't have that many and we don't turn our schools into fortresses.
think the solution is not more security but to try to understand why the students did it.
I also hope the student did not play video games.

I dont think video games has as much as the issues as THEY SAY it does.
Like how they say about Extacy

There was this news in a magazine with a quote like: "The parents should know that the Mature sign in front of the game box is there for a reason. Also the kid should know a game is a game before trying to make a "critical strike" with the knife in the kitchen" (he killed himself). The phrase was hilarious at the moment I read it (and I thought it was a joke, considering how it was phrased), but now it isn't anymore.

But Video games are usually 'used' as an excuse for all this unknown rage or whatever it is (yes that was in the magazine), unless we're talking about 8 year old or below (and those kind of kids shouldn't be enraged).

Exactly. I remember the interview by Michael Moore, with Marilyn Manson. He asked him "What would you say to the children who did the Columbine?"
And Manson said "I wouldn't say a word. I would listen to them, cause that's what no one did."
