Amazing!!!

1.  Its incredible that Ves is so dedicated to TOH that he puts his own money and time into something to be enjoyed by so many without expecting any return on his investment and you have to respect him for that....but godly status I dont think so....maybe more like fatherly status.... being the founder of the tourney and all.

2. With a tourney involving soooo many ppl you are always going to have complaints as it is just human nature.

3.  Guilty....Im guilty of complaining about toh but not publicly in the zone just to friends but that is probably just as bad.  The main thing that I complain about is the fact that I was always being turned down for games because I didnt have high enough toh pts....and therefore the other players didnt want to risk losing to me.  Which meant that I was left to play newbies most of the time and half of them would just drop out of the game when they realised that they were going to get beaten.  Also I hated the fact that you got no recognition for playing a good game and losing cos really if there were no losers there would be no winners.

4.  I have played in divisions for a while now and have always played my appointed games.  A lot of them have been on maps that I hated.  I have been known to get up at 3.30am to play or stay up all night to finish a division game.  I love playing in my division as we have a real team spirit and isnt that what divisions are all about?  So if you have deadlines etc then you have to just meet them and if you miss the game then its just your bad luck.  If your div leader is good like BP then they will remind you very nicely that the deadline is nearing and if you dont get the game played he will kick your butt..

5.  I must say that I think that the new setup for toh is 100 times better than the old as it tells you who the honourable players are and this in turn tells you whether you will have a good game with them or not.  Its handy to check what maps they play also.  These additions have somewhat rectified the problems I was having..  Although I have started getting turned down for games once again cos my pts suck...sheesh!!  At least now I have something that can increase in toh...."my honourable status"...

I think most would have to respect and admire Ves for his work on toh....he must get a lot of personal satisfaction out of it or he wouldnt do it surely.

I know Im not a great player of homm but its such a cool game and Im definitely addicted.  Well these are just my own personal opinions so dont get upset by them....and the most important thing to remember is that you are playing... and its supposed to be fun..

You are correct once again, Mocara, there are always gonna be people who just cannot show there appriciation.  Some people just gotta bite the hand that feeds them.  Those people will fade and TOH will still be here.  =)

This is scary, I have agreed with Mocara 2 posts in a row

BTW:  Nice post purple.  I hope the majority of the TOH community thinks as you do.  And I will play you any time, no matter what your points are.  Just dont beat me

Jinxer, dear, I was joking  (you do know what "joking" is?) by calling you an asskisser

Fact is that if the growth of ToH was based on opinions like the one I personally got by your initial post and also that expressed by Mocara (doh!) ToH wouldn't be more than a little run-of-the-mill HOMM tournament - and we probably wouldn't be anxious waiting HOMM4 to play online.

But we do, right? And ToH has become one of the biggest online tournaments in general - not even comparable with the other HOMM tournaments out there.

So, when something is that open and aiming at such a large mass of players (as ToH apparently is) sayings like "if you don't like it take a hike" or "there has to be only one master and everybody else obeys" are a bit outdated and refer to what Ves was saying "a 15-80 active players tournament".

The clock won't tourn back, though. Your friend Ves has done a magnificent job (and, to be absolutely honest, if I was him I would expect more than just some respect for time/effort/initiative I have put into this) and ToH is really BIG!

But that's it. Not stuff like what you and Mocara are suggesting...

On how to enforce rules... well, more activity from the volunteers (on the Zone, actually) to trash those who are trying to cry out loud their despise to ToH would be something that could stop some complains here... also, not "attempt" to enforce the rules, do so.  Having in mind, of course, that many of the active players have also lives, jobs, wives (of husbands), other hobbies - I mean we are not all addicts and I cannot give up my life to play HOMM 12 hours a day like some people apparently do. Best I (and most players, I guess) can do is one game every two or three days - at best.

So, adjust the rules accordingly. Allow participation in Clans etc. only if a certain days in ToH/games played ratio (or something between those lines) is fullfilled. Try to apply justice quicker in disputed events. Create a body (I can remember that being the fact in season 2) of dedicated ToHers who could actually stop the growth of what you call disrespect and I would call disorder...

...and most of all, remember that this is only a game

I couldn't help but smile when i read this thread and especially this post.  I think september 11th showed "watchu gonna do?"...

But i  don't wanna get political on this one.

Really now... Ves has done more for heroes as a game then even 3do, promoting a game whose popularity should've died long ago...This will reflect on heroes 4 that's for sure.

But... If it were not a "democracy" do you think toh would;ve become what it is now? I sincerely doubt it. People trust toh and HC, they trust it because they think they are listened to. It doesn't matter if they are actually ignored or not, it matters that this illusion is there. People don't need cold realities, they need fantasies, sustained by what they perceive to be real.

It is enough to create the façade.

People will always respect you for what you have done, but keeping with the idea of democracy you cannot expect them to be silent and docile when their fantasy is at stake...

Well thank you :)

Of course, Lichking is right, part of what keeps me going is the positive feedback as well.  If all I got was negative comments I dont think I would be around for very long.  So its appreciated to read some of these passages.  Lets hope that homm4 does get released by february, because 3 years of homm3 can start wearing thin.

remark

You are right , Lichking- toh has rules, toh is free and etc.
If we play if TOH whan we accepted toh rules. Problem that we havnt another such GOOD league as TOH. We havnt choice.
Most here heroes-fanatics and need games games games )
look at Flamingo madman-addict TOH

BUT its only one side "medal". If TOH have rules these rules must be use similar for all. Then people said about Robert as dictator they mean that rules not for all similar.
Here not offence for Vesuvius , just fact . )

I understand that Robert invest his money and time for tourneys (big thanks and respect to him), but then tourneys break near finish this make pain for finalist, bc they lost time and virtual "prestige"(as i understood AIR1).

imho

Well I think this thread has proven to You(Jinxer) that the respect for ToH is not gone. Just that the people with complaints about the recent changes have been speaking very loudly. This is what this message board is for - discussion of our Great Tournment.

I personally haveta respect someone who has been playing Homm since h3, let alone someone who has ran a successful tournment for even Longer.

There will always be people complaining after major changes occur. I dont believe that they dont respect Ves, but it doesnt hurt to see them say it again.

I can understand their complaints, I remember playing clan games before summer time trying to get into the finals. It would angry me to see it go when only 2 clans left. Similar thoughts of GM, expecially after I hosted for one of the finalists. He worked very hard to get there. I watched an 8 hour game and then fell asleep during what I thought was the final fight(it wasnt), and they ended up having to starting over.(SRY again) So I can understand why they are upset, however I still dont believe they have lost their respect for ToH. I hope you can understand the position of people like Air1. Who spent alot of time, to see it all go bye bye. Without even getting post on the main page about why tournments were shut down.

Thats the one thing that annoyed myself - having to tell people in my division that cause the page cant be found anymore, it must be closed...I found this disrespectful, but thats just me, I guess. Prolly just an oversight tho.

I could care less about the division finals being closed down, as it was just beginning.

But you guys are right - Vesuvius IS the KING the PRESIDENT, the Head honcho. He IS the creator and maker of the tournament, what he SAYZ GOES.

Jex

BTW Someone should Resurrect that old thread about what you liked in toh

Ouch Jex.
I was very surprised that the GM tournie was shutdown aswell, especially considering that it was only the final that was missing.
But there is that possibility that Ves just made his springcleaning in the fall, and that some tournies that shouldnt have been closed whent out with the dirty water.
Instead of starting to whine and complain, there is the possibilty to drop a polite mail asking why it was closed.
Im pretty sure this mail would get a polite mail in return stating why it was closed.
Then its possible to take it from there. And perhaps even getting the tournie reopened.
I dunno, but hey everything is possible with a little respect (To quote erasure , eventhough Wheatus remake is listenable)
And Qu, great post. The problem with points has always been there, at least for as long as Ive been here. And I must admit Im guilty of it aswell. But that is mainly coz I had a period where I keept running into bad games with ppl I didnt know and who was close to newbies.
Im pretty sure that a well respected member as u, wont have any trouble finding games vs alot of the highranked players these days. I might be mistaken. But eventhough my points aint grand, I still get alot of offers to play. To bad I never can seem to find the time to play em all.
Guess that was my 2 cents.
And I must admit it sucks being a poor student, living from hand to mouth. Otherwise I would love to get one of them donation badges next to my name.
To quote Ali G. "RESPECT" to all the ppl who have donated, and respect to Ves
