It's kinda addicting...
It's true that the best parts of the game come after you've bought runes... but I have a competitive deck (not according to the last couple screenshots, obviously) but pretty good, and I've only ever bought one pack.
Then you get to customize/upgrade level up etc.
Anyway have a shot of the starter decks, IGN is Kilmo7 if you want to play some time.

Bought a 100 pack and got a very good Exotic Hero for Savage Tundra (snow) decks.
I don't play snow so I traded it for this Limited Edition Woodland Ambassador bear  my new favourite champ
And a bunch of rares.
So i've got a pretty good deck now, good enough to play the proper game and I've only spent less than fifty bucks, and considering normal comp games are around 100 that's not too bad.
New expansion just came out, looks pretty sweet some of the champs but I haven't got any of them yet, and not looking at buying any for a while either actually... haven't been able to play that much
best thing about the new expansion is the new Single Player mode, where you can play campaigns against the computer for free Rewards such as customizing your favourite champs for beating the campaigns. Alot more relaxed as well
