An Inconvenient Truth

Anyone seen that movie?

Anyways, this thread is not about the movie, but its content. Discuss Global Warming here.

Personally, I think that we really need to do something. I saw 40 minutes of this film at school, and some stuff really shocked me:

The glacier meltdown from the pictures were horrible, the graphs were just unbeliveable and some other stuff. I knew that it was going on, and it was bad, but not that bad. If anyone has any ideas how to help people make Earth a better place, please talk about it here. The worst part is that the US, a main cause of Global Warming, doesn't really did anything about it until recently. What do you think?

Well partially nothing been done because the public opinion was not strong enough. Now there are number of investment funds that look for greener companies. So companies become more greener to get the money out of those funds.

Couldn't stand him inserting his loss in 2000 into the movie- that was unnecessary. Also, it's not all the U.S.'s fault. The Furturama cartoon was the best part.

Well, I guess some people care...

Anyways, I didn't say US is the reason, but I said that it does have a big part in it. Bush was killing US soldiers in Iraq, spending money at that cause instead of noticing what's going around him...

And ya, the Futurama part was good

wow, so you're one of the people who wants to wave the white flag...
Bush is not responsible for those deaths- that honor goes to the low-life Islamic terrorist scum.

The world situation is sortof like in the movies where two people (US and Iran/Iraq/Afganistan/Persia) are fighting, and then a Huge Demon stomps out at them and eats them both while they keep trying to kill eachother.

You know, I live in Israel, and I know exactly how low are these terrorists. What I'm saying is that Bush should have also paid attention to Global Warming. Fighting with mass forces against guerilla tactics is pretty much useless. This is kinda like Vietnam... Like Daystar said, it's like the countries are fighting and than the Demon (GLobal Warming) eats them up... And US is not a big cause of it because of the fighting in Iraq, US makes weapons, which produces Greenhouse Gases...

Weapons don't produce greenhouse gases. Civilian life produces much more gases. Also, countries like Russia and China with more, low-grade equipment burn more gas.
You've accepted it as true, just because you saw a movie about it. Do you believe everything you see? A U.N. commission found that there was only about a 60% chance that humans were causing global warming- also, the results wouldn't be as bad as those depicted in the movie. Israel is making weapons too, so is every other country. Would you just do nothing when your country gets attacked? Your country retaliates too, and recently got in much trouble for "crossing the line", supposedly, while doing so.

That movie was a giant load of.... compost

Even though there was a lot of valid information, the amount of self promotional propaganda that Gore spit out was just nauseating...I had to turn it off.

The short of it is that this movie predicts what is already happening and will continue to as long as we grow in size. Take the important information of the movie and just do your part to prevent. Take the rest of the political bull**** and filter it in that part of the brain that listens to the array of political **** everyday. Everyone in this life has an angle and that was his.

The movie is flat out brilliant.  I didn't mind his jabs about the sham that was the 2000 election.  Hey, it got a laugh out of his audience.

Those of you who have an issue with the movie, explain yourselves.  Why is it that peer researched articles are given less credibility than the propaganda laid out by big oil.  Is it really hard to conceive, after bearing witness to the lies that big tobacco, the lies of GM regarding the Corsair, that large corporations answer to the bottom line and shareholders?

We have a president who had admitted his base is the 'haves' and the 'have mores'.

I'll take sound science and a little self-promotion any day over the bull**** and the lies that have fed to us by the so-called elite anyday.

I believe in Global warming, just felt the movie could have been a little more scientific, and didn't need the election in it- that wasn't really relevent. I know many republicans who aren't exactly living in mansions, both parties have supporters from all walks of life.

I had no problem at all with the findings that were presented, in fact for the most part I thought it was very well done.

What bothered me is that with an issue of such importance, he really risked putting people off watching it by adding so much of his personal issues.

I just didn't feel it was appropriate to tie the issues in with political viewpoints - whats going on with the world is a global problem and something we all need to address wherever we may be and whatever our political views might be.

I wasn't implying that the way the documentary was handled was in any way worse than the giant loads of crap tossed on the general public any day - I'm just saying that I feel he risked alienating viewers by his approach - and I think its important that everyone start opening their eyes to what we're doing to this planet.
