Indeed, the music theme of the Fortress has very much personality!!
I like both Stronghold and Fortress, but I'm definately the fan of stronghold and crag hack. My buddy, skeleton_King loves Fortress (it's his favourite city, not Necroplois as one might think), and all the day me make hot-seats-me Stronghold with Crag Hack and him Fortress with Korbac.

At equal level and both with Expert Offense(Crag Hack)/Expert Armorer(Tazar), they negate eachother the enemy's  speciality?

not really i think hack stil lmanages to dish out more damage than taz could defend.the fact is the higher the attack, the higher the damage done,  but as far as def is concerned it works opposite. lower defence means more damage absorbed.

You can never negate offense/armorer, coz offense only works for hand-to-hand damage, while armorer reduces range damage too.

Up to level 45 or something, Crag should deal out more than 100% damage. After that, Tazar's specialty would probably reduce damage to below 100%.

But, when was the last game you had heroes over level 45?

NOTE: 45 is rough estimate, at level 40 crag deals 104,5% damage, at level 60 he deals 88% -> so i figured the turning point is somewhere near lvl45.

PS: this is for melee attacks only, and all numbers considered that crags attack and tazars defense would be equal. Even after that, i would leave some room to possible mistakes

fair enough, although i think when it comes to vs map, ppls playing style would complement either. i find craig more interesting and better as i like to play aggresive, but as i mentioned before, its not like id not cinsider taz either.

Fortress music theme is my favorite HoMM music of all time. Indeed, one of my favorite orchestral pieces. (Sad, I know.)

I'm currently trying to figure out how to set a part as my ringtone.

i think witches are pretty much useless full stop
maybe andra is usable due to intelligence specialty.
oh, and voy (since she starts with slow), but with a specialty in navigation, and a slot wasted on navi.... definitely useless unless on island maps.

I love to defend a Fortress against a guy who doesn't have ballistics

I also love the Mighty Gorgon, I love that special ability and also it's high health and defence.

Even if Fortress is a good town to defend, it stinks to attack when you don't have ballistics and your enemy camps inside the town walls.

I know that, if the Attacker's Attack Skill is bigger by x than the Defender's Defense Skill, the damage increasement is much bigger (almost twice, actually) than the damage reduction would be in the opposite case (when the Defender's Defense Skill is bigger by x than the Attacker's Attack Skill).

This is because the well-known damage formulae is:

I.Let D=(Random Damage Within Damage Range)*(Number of Creatures Performing the Attack).

II.Afterwards, the Attackers Attack Skill (AAS) and The Defenders Defense Skill (DDS) enter the equation.
    Let X=AAS-DDS.

III. Now we have three posibilities:
      i) X>0
X is positive (meaning that the AAS is bigger than the DDS). In this case, the final damage D'=D+D*(5%*X).
      ii) X<0
X is negative (meaning that the DDS is bigger than the AAS). It this occures, the final damage D'=D-D*(2%*(-X)).
      iii) X=0
X is zero, so the AAS and DSS are equal. In this particular situation, the initial damage D is unmodified.

NOTE: It is not sure if, in case ii), the exact formulae is the given one, or either D'=D-D*(2.5%*(-X))or D'=D-D*(2.125*(-X)).

So, it's easy to see that big ASS are much more effective then DSS (so, it's better to specialize in the Hero's Attack Skill than in his/her's Defense Skill.)

However, the Expert Offense secondary skill increases damage by 30% (it increases D, not D', I suppose). On the other hand, the Expert Armorer increases 30% (again, D is affected, not D').

Crag Hack/Tazar have Offense/Armorer speciality. This means that they increase their respective skill by 5% per level (5% improvement of the 30% bonus, so a level 2 hero doesn't have Offense/Armorer at 35%, but at 31.5%, 1.5% being 5% out of 30.)

So, at equal levels and wothout takinf Attack and Defense skills of both heroes, each of them should negate the opposing speciality in combat.

Let's take level 10:

Crag Hack's speciality increases D by 45%, so an Ancient Behemoth should deal 58 damage instead of 40, 18 being 45* out of 40. But then Tazar reduces damage inflicted on his troops by 45& of the initial, unmodified D, wich is also 18.

So 40+18=58.
  58-18=40.
Nothing has changed. What I am mising?

"On the other hand, the Expert Armorer increases 30%"

Armorer goes 5%, 10% and 15%, not 10%, 20% and 30% like offense does.
