Nah. I know what Naruto is but I'm not a fan ( my 7 year sis is! )
and I don't know what ninja scroll O_O is (another anime/manga?)
I like Ninja/Samurai films. Their dances with swords, their flying...

Sound very nice. I like this theme a lot.
It's like the sea version of Heroes of Might and Magic... Just a moment... Magic? Is there magic here?
I like the story. Huge and powerful kingdom falls apart... Great!

not really huge and powerful kingdom falling apart, more a great friendship falling apart, just as poetically awful!
as for magic, i was thinking about it, in my mind it looking fun, but on paper it didn't seem like a good idea. part of me wants to have magic, to add extra sparkle to the wonderful world of pirates, but the other parts wants to focus on the dog-faced men who are fighting in this game.
if we are to do magic, i want to stay away from "light" "dark" "destructive" and "summoning" as catergories, or spell lists, or anything. i was first thinking that each race should have a spell list of its own, but i'm sure no-one could think of seven seperate spell lists. so basically what i can't decide on what to do for magic.
again like everything on this thread, i'm up for everything and anything.

How about this: Each spell calls upon one of seven Elements/Sprits/Gods:
God of Fire
God of Winds
Goddess of the Sea
God of the Land
Goddess of Nature
God of Night
Goddess of the Dawn
God of Chaos
Each spell basically summons the asociated embodiment of the God. (sea=water, Dawn = Light)
When casting, the player decides where the spell will comefrom, how big the spell is, and, if they have learned enough, special parts of the spell.
Like this:
Kiera (A Pirate Hero) Calls upon the power of the Sea Goddess, Calypso.
The player adjust the position and starting speed. Coming from on top can deal a lot of damage, but coming head on could move them side to side. A fast spell is more deadly than a slow one.
The Player adjusts the shape of the spell: For instance, a small, round pellet does a lot of damage, but keeping it in that shape costs a lot of mana/favor. Alternatively, a big glob would deal less damage, but be less costly. Also, it has a chance to burst and hit nearby units.
The player casts the spell.
The opponent takes damage.
Now, different elements have different rules.
Dawn: Dawn is also unable to deal pain, but illuminate. Blindingly.
Sea: Water is vuagely physical, but not very painful, and thus it has more area of effect powers than fire would.
Fire is painful. Naturaly it would deal more damage with a large spell, but a smaller one could burn the target. Also, fire can catch peices of the ship on fire.
Wind: Wind cannot be used for damage, but it can put out fires, cause a ship to change direction (unless it has a more powerful spell put on it to help it), push units around, and at high levels conjur storms!
Earth: Earth is not a commonly used spell during naval battles, as it requires being connected to the earth. However, on land calling on Earth Shaker Woden can cause earth quakes, siesmic cracks in the land that inhibit movement, create spikes from the rock, etc. Also, from the land can one summon that which pirates desire most: Gold.
Night: Night is a time of shadows. Shaodws lead to confusion. The night also lends itself to illusion. Illusions can cause fear, or bring about invisiblility. Shadow also, supprisingly leads to peace, for in sleep is peace. Night also is a time of death. The power of Nott can summon up spirits of the dead, raise the corpses of the fallen, or bring an end to enemies.

daystar, you've seen POTC 3, haven't you!
when it came to the subject of religion, i was flumoxed (english phrase for baffled, bambolazed or mental blockage). pirates are superstious, not really religious, so a strict religion wouldn't work, but stuff like "Don't shoot an albatross" or "remember to put elephant wax on the rigging, or davy jones will come after you!" or something similar.
it could have religious standing, though.
i was thinking about storylines. possible ones could include the search by the world government for plans for an ancient super weapon to rid the world of pirates. another could also involve the realise of a ?demon? which can only be sealed by eight objects, owned by the seven pirate lords and jolly rogers, but are lost. more are possible, and much apreacheated.

it seems good.
with magic, like i have stated before, i'm torn. if i was to do magic, i want to get away from putting it into catigories like "Destructive" "fire" "light" "summoning" and just make some spells for each ocean with a mixture in each. it gives each race a more personal set of spells and add for the theme of the race.
