In my opinion, Marriage is just the next step in boosting your relationship, and it just brings you closer together with the woman/man.

There's other ways, such as moving in together, having kids etc. No need to have it on paper. They could just agree that now, from this moment on, we'll be togerher.

Quote:
Of course, it may eventually end, with a big fight, or a whole series of fights or you do not see it is going well for the both of you, but Marriage is a thing that brings people together.

Now the trouble is, when marriages do end, there's lots of issues from the legal side. Where as if you didn't make any sort of contract, there wouldn't be this kind of problems.

Quote:
With all the Christians and Catholics out there who believe the thing about no sex before Marriage, well I am sure a lot of people believe that.

Yes, but this is beside the point. Or rather, this is exactly the point. You see, what I'm doin here is I'm questioning the need for marriage as a concept, not only the legal side or the social side but also the religious side. I'm saying that why would God, or any religion really, forbid people from having sex if they haven't made a deal with the partner?

Quote:
So, sex, which is a thing that might come after marriage (if you believe in religion and follow it well), is also a thing in boosting the relationship with your husband or wife.

I already answered this, but I'll say now that you are on to something here. Sex does bring couples closer together (In most cases), but the question is, why would a couple have to be married to do that?

Quote:
You see, Marriage comes with many things that boost a relationship, instead of just staying gf and bf forever.

If marriage had never existed, there'd be other ways of "boosting", as you say. Like living togerther. Or having kids. Or doing anything modern-day married couples do, except not being married. What's the difference?

Quote:
Sure, bf and gf might not sound that bad, well in fact it isn't bad at all, that is the stages in working up in a relationship, then you can propose and then further the relationship.

No need for proposal. A couple should (Now this is hypothetical and I'm talking about a different world where marriage does not exist, just to give an example of my opinion.) sit down and have a long and serious talk about what to and what not to do as a couple.

Quote:
However, about the sex part, there are many who do have sex before marriage, and that is totally fine in my opinion, nothing wrong with that at all, but I also think that if the girl falls pregnant, well it might not exactly have your last name or anything, since you are not married to the girl or you are not married to the boy or whatever

Well that's no problem. You know who the parents are (I hope) so just decide a who's last name to use, and if you want, change the couple's names too so they have the same surname. Another thing is if a man has a child with a woman and then takes off, well, that's not good. Not good at all. However, the law could simply state that parents have certain responsibilities towards their children. So even if they weren't married, they'd be forced to look after their kids properly.

Quote:
If you were to have married then had a child, it would have your last name, and that is a good thing of course, because then you are raising a family, something which, in my opinion, you cannot necessarily do if you are just bf and gf.

Why not? Think about it. It's just what everyone does, that's why it sounds insane not to. But just think, why would it be a problem to raise a family if not married?

Quote:
I think that marriage is a totally nature and relationship boosting thing.

Why yes, it is! But is it needed?

I don't think marriage is needed, when you look away from the juridical consequences it has in modern society. That being said, I do think it can be very healthy for some people to do it, because it forces you to make that active decision to stand up and say "yes, this is what I want". Of course, in modern society, the words might ring pretty empty after a couple of years, but the concept does make sense.

So, your opinion is that marriage is a good thing, but not necessarily needed, is that right?
