My advice: Don't spend money on Dark Messiah unless you like bloody games and your mother is not around much.  Go to youtube, watch the walkthrough there.  So much quicker, and it gives you the whole plot all the same.

Don't worry, I'm not intending to!

So emilsn, you think they lied when they said there'd be no Orcs in HoMM5?
Also in support is the fact that, of the two races in the Ashan mythology that weren't in the original game, one of them was used for the first expansion, suggesting Ubival at some point planned the Naga to come in the second.

There's a continent all prepared for them...

I think they have a longterm plan, but its a fluid plan.  Games have changed over the years to accomodate what people like, because it turns out a profit, but the games still try to put in their own stuff, because they can use all the foreshadowing, mythology, and hints that they have been putting in.  The unpredictabily is good, I think.  If Ubi had said at the outset:

HommV: Humans, Wizards, Elves, DElves, Necromancers, and Demons
HoF: +Dwarves
ToE: +Orcs

HommVI: Humans, Wizards, Elves, Minotaurs*, Necromancers, Demons, Orcs, Nagas
LoN: +Vampires/Werewolves **
MHoF: +Dwarves ***
RoP: +Saurians ****

then there would be so little speculation.  It would all be about how they were going to implement Vampires, Nagas, Saurians, etc.   However, by saying that they are not going to include Orcs, and then including them, they show that their game can change on the fly.

* To be explained later

*** "More Hammers of Fate"
**** "Reserection of the Past"

Not that they lied, but they kept us in the shadows ... Because I think they worked together with the creators of Dark Messiah and the stories had to fit together! So either they Lied or they were just joking us!

I think a completely different team worked on the messiah. And believe me, that would be an outright lie - not preparing a surprise. A serious company wouldn't do that on purpose.

I would assume the "there'll be no Orcs" statement came from someone fairly `minor` - I wonder if anyone can find the source?

As for the serious company thing, I can just about see Ubisoft lying about stuff in order to gain publicity, so long as they are small and excusable (i.e. they have a reason that almost exonnerates them). But lying about this seems just strange. Hence my conclusion has to be that they changed their minds.

If I understood correctly some things that I've read Ubisoft made a background to the world of Ashan, maybe some major events of the future, and gave to Nival and DM creators. From that point on each company did whatever they thought was better so there doesn't have to be a direct connection between everything.

But it's a shame there isn't more of a connection. I thought they were trying to get a new, full-bodied fantasy world, and they won't acheive this by having few links between the games - and certainly not with any discontinuities. If I were Ubi I would have made sure the two developers worked together more, for a more coherent result.

With the introduction of the Orcs in TotE this discrepancy will become less serious, with any luck (not that I'd notice any similarities since I've never played DMoMM)

Seems like Ubisoft had the idea, and just needed some people to carry it out to the world.. Still, if they went different directions(Nival and DM creators) that sucks ... Its just like All the other HoMM games that had a RPG 1 person game too... They followed each (or hope so , because im just babling on)

Oh drop that, what do you care? Except from the fact that many haven't played dark messiah TotE can still keep a good link and explain things. Dark messiah is in Ashan's future so they had to have a relevant freedom right? As long as they don't clash with each other ubival is fine on that part.
