OH NO :( Vampires......

Why oh WHY did they change the vampire grapics from HMM3 to that of HMM2? The vampire look from HMM3 was SO good, but now they look like some kid trick-or-treating. It makes me sick. It totally ruins the experience of playing the undead.

gentlemen have no place in a necropolis army with skeletons and zombies. The vamps from HMM3 fit in with the rest of the troops. The new model looks like a guy in a halloween costume. They are supposed to be ugly, they are undead!

Agree my friend... vampire's HOMM3 look really rocked. I'm a really big fun of vampires. I play Necropolis only for playing with vampires(and liches and skeletons(1k+) I admit it!).

Hey, Grim Reaper!

Thanks for respecting my avatar. Sandro has travelled a lot by my side and I have a very special relationship with him.

About the vampires question, they are clearly anachronic. With that picture you imagine them somewhere in Louisiana, preying over lonely damsels like Lestat and friends.

But pirates are also anachronic and nobody seems to protest about them. They look like Long John Silver and have firearms! Do they ships launch broadside cannon shots against nearby dragons?? :-)

At least, I don't worry too much about designing decisions (the graphic aspect I'm most afraid is that too similar-looking towns, with all dwellings in the same position). If the gameplay is as addictive as in the rest of the games and hero development has been improved as it seems, the game is a must have for me.

For Crusher Vampire Lord: yes, I am, and I take also pride in leading necro troops in battle. And as the perfect definition for a necro is the vampire, I can't conceive the Necropolis without a fine breed of vampires. If they really wanted that, they could have looked how the "real" Dracula (because we all know that's a pure fiction) was depicted in old books: surely not a gentleman!
As about the pyrate: it's unfortunate to have him among us! You want a pyrate suitable for that age? Take a viking and that's the end of story, not a napoleonean character!

true, the homm2 vampires looked the best so far. no matter that the homm3 vampires were also ok from the point of view of gameplay, and that they also looked more or less tolerable, they looked like some puny evil loosers to me compared with the stoical homm2 vampires. and both homm2 and homm3 weren't so radically ahead of their time with their clothing. although i like that the stoical attitude seems to have returned, their clothing makes them look like some fashion geeks that are most certainly to be ridiculed by their contemporaries (if that's the correct word for ppl who lived when homm4 events took place).

also, i didn't quite understand what the thing about dracula not raving existed in rl meant. the legend was based on vlad dracula who lived in central europe somewhere, i guess it was poland, maybe hungary, but most probably poland imho. he was also called 'vlad the impaler,' because he was known for having impaled some ppl. and later some literature writer made up the whole story about sucking blood, etc. someone was to that country (which was poland, i guess), and told that he asked a local old man in that area where dracula lived, and the old man said sth like he is upset about ppl being so unfair as to make such a nasty evil legend about noble dracula -- he never impaled anyone without a reason.

now imagine the guy in the suit publicly impaling someone, be it for a good reason and the local contemporary ppl thinking that he is a good noble.. huh, the reason would have to be a really good one.

========
uhh.. i have looked into some matters in the meantime and found some interpretations of pentagram (well, as pentagram is a part of many theories of aesthetics anyway) and maybe placing devil in necro does make some sense from the point of view of creation through destruction. and maybe humans in life town make sense from the point of view of mind dominating over body, i.e. the upright pentagram does seem to be kind of a symbol of enforcing order that way. and about the imps, etc, etc, etc, i.e. i would gave a lot to tell about things, but i don't quite feel like wasting too much time on it right now, because i have seen that my concepts of a good game and the nwc concepts are very different. should i be the one to try to change their concepts.. i don't think so. i think it's a very bad idea to blatantly incorporate any piece of graphics that looks good as a separate individual one. and that's exactly what their concept seems to be. and i also downloaded a demo of seven lingdom 2 which i expected to be a game with great perspective, and found that the game was very unbalanced in some important areas and very annoying to play with enemy buildings popping up all over the place even though your army is unbeatable, and this was the greatest disappointment of my life lately, making me think about most cruel methods of suiciding. *********** ********* *******************!

Hey, come one, Dracula did not live in Poland but in Romania.I can tell you that for sure because I am a romanian. And there are also a few detailes that you exposed which are quite untrue. Dracula as everybody knows it DID NOT exist. But there was a romanian ruler named Vlad the Impaler, which was also nicknamed as "dracula" but he was something different than what you've seen in the movies. His father was Vlad "Dracul" (dracul in that time meant Dragon, and he was given this name because of the order who honored with a high-class medal). The rest is simple: dracula means "the son of dracul". Now-a-days in romanian dracul means devil. Vlad Dracul ruled indeed in Transylvania, which is part of Romania, but his son lived south of Transylvania, in a country called "romanian-land", later also part of Romania. So you see, the legend combines the father and the son, and is based on the cruelty of the son ( he was famous for the rigor with which he applied the law - any mistake costed you life, no matter you were a peasant or a noble man, even his friend). Altogether he did a lot for his country inside of it and outside fighting the turks and maintaining his realm independent.

P.S. Vampire must be changed.

well, although my facts were vague, when i said it was based on a real historical person.. now, wasn't the legend somewhat connected to the name of vlad dracul and his son dracula, and the firm-hand policy of the son?

when you are saying that the vampire legend was not based on a real person, i understand that the real dracula was a respected leader by many ppl, and legends have made it into sth completely different, but what do you mean by that it wasn't based on a real person? is it that the legend is different from the original? well, i don't think a real vampire existed anywhere in romania, so imho it's as connected as anything can be connected when we are talking about legends.

i apologize to all romanians, and as i admitted in my previous post, the polish or hungarian origin didn't quite feel right, but nevertheless isn't the problem in the appearance of the vampire.. btw, could you name the century when dracula lived? i wonder what kind of clothing they had then?

Yes, as I said, Vlad the Impaler had an iron hand in conducting his business, and the only thing that conects him with the legend is the ruthlesness...There was so much blood during his public executions thet people started talking about him enjoying the smell and taste of it... of course, that's pure fiction. The legend was born before Bran Stoker, and it depicts the lonely and old nobleman in his castle on the top of the mountain; that's got nothing to do with the real character. Only later Stoker came closer to reality with his book.
And to answer your question the century was XV. Though the time coresponds to Louis the XIV, the dressing those days in Romanian-Land was closer to Charlemagne.

Yes they have. Remember, Necropolis is just as much allied with order than with chaos. Actually, there are way more chaos aligned creatures in:

Categorizing the Necropolis line-up:

Order:
Gentleman Vampire (level 3)

Death:
Skeleton (level 1)
Zombie (level 1)
Cerberus (level 2)
Ghost (level 2)
Bone Dragon (level 4)

Chaos:
Imp (level 1)
Venom Spawn (level 3)
Devil (level 4)
