I voted for Paladin, I just love him, not because he is the best or sth  .
In d1 I was am a great sorcerors' fan.
Btw there should be two separete polls for both d1 and d2 - these characters are hardly comparable with each other.

1 Character is missing, and it is my favorite one: MONK!!!!!!!
There are two more characters in D1, barbarian and bard, but since they used warrior's and rogue's graphics, i don't count them 
Monk on the other hand, should have been included!

Hellfire was made by Sierra, and I only took into consideration the 100% Blizzard games.
The characters are different in d1 from d2, but there are still characters.
Hope in d3 there will be these 10 characters + a warlock.

Barbarian of course.
No other character was easier to play (in singleplayer mode) through all 3 difficulty levels.

Paladin here.
Only because I know the most about them, and how to make some good ones.
Barbarian would be my second choice.
Whirlwind Barbarians are good, imo.
And the holding of 2 weapons is awesome 
EDIT:
I think you should change the poll, or make a new thread separating d1 and d2.
Only because some people might like paly the best for d1, but like sorceress the best in d2.
And since we can only vote once, it might be a bit frustrating and confusing or whatever.
Just my opinion....

if by paly you mean paladin I'm confused since in d1 there are only three characters(warrior, sorceror and the rogue)

well I would say paly (paladin), would equal a warrior, they are very much the same, just got different names.

the warrior is far superior in terms of strength, and I consider it different from the holy warrior, basicaly the warrior is a mix between the paladin and the barbarian

Well I was only using my paladin thing, like the d1 and d2 thing as an example.
I guess a better example would be the Barbarian, and a Sorceress, since they are both in d1 and d2, and people might have barb as their favourite in d1 and sorceress as their favourite in d2.

Perhaps it was made by Sierra, but it is part of Diablo series as any other. It was official expansion.

I didn't like the mage guy in Diablo 1 because it was bloody hard to aim them fireballs, and I always ran out of MP real quick. Go melee!

hehe, I liked all the Characters in Diablo1, although I did prefer Paladin/Warrior.
I also liked the Mage more than the Rogue, because I liked the spells (Teleport is a good spell, and fire wall).

My rogue is my favourite character from both game because it's easy to play with and it's very versatile.

With the rogue in D2, I do not really see as much options to go for, then Sorceress or Paladin or even Barbarian have.
I mean, you can have tesladin (paladin), Whirlwinder (Barbarian), or cold sorc (sorceress).
I do not see as many options that you can have with Rogue, although Rogue is not the worst.

In Diablo 2 my favorite is definetly Barbarian. Max Leap and Leap Attack and you have one hit killer! Also elemental immunities is way to go but you can forget about most of the high class skills when they aren't as effective as Leap.
