I meant that reaching that tavern absolutely unnecessary to finish the map.
The dragons can fly out if your shooters more string that his ones.

Defeating DM in one battle in SOD2 version is hard, but possible.
Just use AB and some auxiliary troops, bring no shooters.

The last battle is easy.

Edit: I was stuck at the rampart but I managed somehow.

Now I have a different problem.
While fighting against Ugly Ratface I defend myself using ff and placing one elf on the corpse of AD so AI won't be able to resu/sacrifice it.
I have the upper hand, guarded by ff and constant using of frenzy.
But when I kill one stack of Cerberi and begin to kill another; he sacrifices the stack and resurrects the stack that I just killed.

And the game got stuck.
The resurrected stack has the yellow outing showing that it's its turn. Yet it waits still.
When I go nwcredpill(insta-win) my hero loses the battle.

So is that a common problem?
I also had that problem of crashing after casting after dispell.

It is very annoying problem for me too.
You should not kill a stack completely before she uses all of her mana. After her mana is 0 you can proceed with killing.

Thanks for advice.
So, I waited until all of her mana is depleted and I just went boom boom.
Now I'm trying to find a stable tactic against Teal's Angel Delight.

It's tough to fight against 1.1k Archangels, you know.

Did you conquer the Inferno area?
One of the inferno castles have the sacrifice spell.
A good one to have when spending mana for resurrection.

Last Edit: I've managed to defeat Angel Delight.
For those struggling in, try blocking the gate and blinding the Archies.
And bring lots of behemots, they work like a charm.

As far as I remember richard chen posted some very nice battles from this map on youtube channel and in thread "Tricks VS AI" in library of enlightment.

https://www.youtube.com/user/ricrvc/videos

All battles in fortress area were fought outside the castles, when he got attacked. The key point was, he could choose the place of attack, to get a nice terrain. You can try this too

i think you first conquer the town Das gemetzel where you can learn "resurection", then you need reforcement from Gipillolas. You need a lot of Mighty Gorgons, at least 300 MMs to kill KS. i defeat KS when i defense in town.

Ever-elusive force field

Star_King said:
I didn't have Forcefield when I defeated the main Rampart hero. That might be why people struggled (I still beat him though).

You are not alone! I just captured all the castles in the Inferno area and still no Force Field!

As a cruel joke, the Infernos do offer 'Protection from Earth'. Twice. And 'Destroy undead'. (These tie for the least common spell in Inferno Mage Guilds).

So... 4 Fortresses, 4 Towers, 5 Rampats (the original one just build up to level 3), 4 Infernos and a Stronghold... I am starting to think the spell assignment is not as random as I though it was...

In other news... how much more difficult is it to finish this map without it?

Attempt at a walk-through (part 1)...

Reading over the 20+ pages, there seems to be some demand for a walk-through/timeline for Unleashing the Bloodthirsty. So I took the liberty to exercise some copy pasting skills. I used my timing for the events, and I finished at the end of month 11 (44 weeks, 300ish days), while the game crashing deadline is supposed to be around month 14-15(?)
(And I will try to avoid spoilers as much as possible).

And thus, two suggestions that apply to the whole map:
"It is a difficult map for a non-expert gamer. However it is one thing that you must keep in mind when finishing a battle: the next will be harder."

"Btw I noticed that most enemies on that map have an army of 6 big stacks and also 1 small stack of random creatures they got from dwellings or as followers. These small stacks are very important cause you can hypnotize them and then use as a shield for your main troops."

Week 1
You need to capture the gold mine/get resources/learn a spell and get an artifact (no, not the orb artifact, that one is unreachable for now). Some of the above items are hidden, but they are all there. Afterwards, return to the starting town (do not visit the oasis on the way back), place all slow troops in castle and wait for reinforcement. The day they arrive, take all the troops from the castle (now visit the oasis to get the extra movement) and head across the river.

Week 2-3 Forrest Keep
Flag all the elf dwellings (upgrading them is up you, since you will need to wait before capturing the Fortresses anyway, you may have time to kill).

Take Rampart (Forrest Keep). Note: try to keep elves, some Cyclopes and thunderbirds alive. Everything else is optional and soon will be obsolete.
“Battle tactic in that siege:
Protect all your archers in the top corner, cast mass forgetfulness and block gate with thunderbirds. Try to shoot down the grand elves first. You shouldn't lose too much with that tactic. Always look out when forgetfulness spell is gone....when they can shoot again, you are dead meat.”
Block any openings in the walls with fodder (goblins, wolf riders, orges…)

After the battle, some troops will join you, if you have time, it will be good to upgrade them (particularly Cyclopes and Thunderbirds)

Week 4-7 Fortress

The Fortress heroes will have a larger army than you and chances are you will need to face them in a siege (preferable defending the castle, since you do not have Resurrection yet and turrets will be a pain). Save prior to opening the Quest Guard and then figure out which way to go so that you can snatch a castle and the AI will run to try to get it back.
Save often because there are a lot of random “locals welcome you with open arms” encounters. It should take you a couple of weeks to eliminate the four heroes/take four castles/flag some hydra dwellings (again, watch out for the ‘welcoming locals’).

Do not leave the area without visiting a tent (you will be given an obvious hint as to where it is).

Week 8 Alchemist (Das Bier or Neela in the original)
Split your grand elves into two stacks. First round, blind the nagas (AI should not cast mass haste in that case, but blind one of the elves instead). Use second elf stack and Cyclopes to take out the gremlins, everyone else waits and then try to minimize retaliations of her troops. Let Hydras have a go at the stack before finishing it off with other melee attacks. With luck/high morale you may be able to finish her troops off before the end of round two.

Once aboard, start by releasing the squire directly north of you, so he can get reinforcements.

Week 10 - 11 Tower

Definitely one of the hardest battles (although I am getting a feeling this may vary from payer to player).
Get you army together before charging into the snowy mountains. If you are lucky, you will be able to sneak into the first Tower (steal some of the Titans the AI didn’t buy) and get attacked by tan’s weaker hero, who will kindly present you with his Cape of Velocity upon his departure.

Make your way to the North West Tower (“Das Gemetzel”) to get the Resurrection spell. There is a sanctuary on the way, although I didn’t need to use it. Don’t underestimate the logistics specialty of the main hero . Advice of the Tavern dwellers:

“And the main fight vs tan is mostly about blinding his units, concentrating on killing titans, and then resurrecting own units.
I had to force him to attack me in Tower, in open field, it was pretty much a slaughter. Also, don't think it matters too much if YOU attack him in castle, main thing is that battle is there.”
Be aware that if you are defending, the turrets will continue shooting the blinded units once you kill everything off .

“You could use 2 single flies instead to block / weaken the titans, or, if you have mass slow, you could use 1 single flie (retail) and 1 single monarch and hope you poison the titans while having 2 monarch stacks attacks in a row. Grand elves can attack also before getting attacked by the titans....and the mighty moos are your titan killers also...”

Personal approach (defending castle): (Elves, 17 scavenged titans, few Arch mages, hydras, moos and 2 dragon flies)
Round 1: Dragon flies + cape of velocity gives the initiative, so blind his arch mages and fly one dragon fly next to the titans. Second one moves out of the range of his fliers. The 120 mighty titans raise their blades… and kill the lonely little dragon fly. Melee power well spent. All shooters that survive until their turn (sorry arch mages) attack the titans and others wait. At the end of the turn the hydras go say hello to whatever flew in over the castle walls and moos walk out into the enemy territory.
Round 2: The second dragon fly is still giving the initiative, so cast ‘Slow’ (in my case this meant his titans were actually slower than my moos). The dragon fly absorbs the titan retaliation (May it rest in peace), all archers attack the titans and after the death stare there should be barely any of them left. On their turn, the left over titans will attack the cows and hopefully perish in retaliation. Oh and the cows will not live to see round three, but that’s okay. Resurrection (at least partial may be possible).
P.S. The hydras may need to waste their attack to go back and prevent elves from getting decimated and/or blocked.
Once the titans are dead and you have all the units blinded… Recast blind every turn until his catapult builds up the competence to take out the turrets. Then you can resurrect what you can, but chances are you will run out mana for everything.

Have a cookie upon the completion of the battle. You deserved it.

Week 12-13 Serena/Bloodthirst (Not going to mention her in-game name, because in Russian it is a swear word, and my mommy would not approve of repeating it)

Advice from the tavern dwellers:

“it was possible if I let her attack me. I needed to let el trueno stay in the front of her and then ended the turn, then she attacked me. This will make her troops split differently, only 3 stacks”
“Have you tried standing on Titan corpses to prevent their revival?
Had only 1300 elves and some small supportive stacks, other troops are useless here. VERY hard fight, you need to be lucky to win this, but it’s possible for sure.
Secondly she can’t be defeated by a common block-resurrect-block again strategy or at least I couldn’t win it like that. If you block she either clones her titans or summons elementals each turn. If you ignore them they'll kill you. If you shoot them you gonna run out of mana sooner or later (she has 999 mana and you have somewhat like 330-350).”

“Had 1300 elves, 2 enchanters and 1x5 stacks of basilisks.

On turn 1 I cast slow and basilisks should stone curse titans and nagas (would be good if they curse genies too, but its almost impossible). She blinds my elves and genies cast some spell.

On turn 2 I blind genies, she can’t do anything now.

On turn 3 I cure elves. 1 basilisk blocks titans, everyone else surrounds elves (to prevent her from teleporting troops next to them).

On turn 4 I was lucky ‘cause my enchanters casted bless, maybe I could win without bless, I'm not sure. I cast frenzy and elves kill more than a half of her titans. Now it’s a crucial moment. In my case she implosioned my elves (AI tends to use directly damaging spells when he feels he's losing a battle). Then I finished titans on turn 5 with another frenzy and moved 1 basilisk over a titan's body to prevent her from casting sacrifice.

Then she teleported her nagas and killed my elves in 1 hit but it was already too late. I blinded nagas and resurrected the elves; the rest is easy and obvious.

Once again a very luck based fight. Turn 4 is critical, ‘cause she can cast many different spells - if she blinds my elves instead of doing something else... well probably you can still win by casting berserk on nagas to finish titans off but I'm not sure. It took me a lot of time to win this battle.”

Personal approach: (elves, titans, symbolic arch mages, 2 small genie stacks, cows, hydras)
During tactics move shooters half way up so they can get full damage.
Round 1: Slow her down, send Hydras after the top titan stack, shoot the other two and attack the bottom with the death gaze. Use genies to run interference for the melee. There are some obstacles that are of assistance.
Round 2: Start blinding things and cross your fingers that you’ll survive long enough.
Took me a few tries to get it and it is by far not the most elegant way.

After the battle you can take the Stronghold, but you may also leave via the two way portal and come back with full mana to take Bloodthirst with no loses. Easy battle, but you do need some spell points for slow/resurrection.

Week 13-15 Crystal Dragons/Three Strongholds
After defeating Serena you are now the proud (temporary) owner of the sword of judgement… Hand it over to get access to a swamp (doesn’t seem like a very fair trade, does it?) south of the Tower area
After constantly having someone undoing the hard work you put into casting buffs/debuffs it should be a breeze to take on legions of crystals dragons with no one hasting/blessing/cloning  them. Similarly with the strongholds (protected by legions of Ancient Behemoths).
One of standard approaches is to slow them, then blind all stacks, resurrect your shooters (haste if needed) and apply the attack + re-blind. The issue here is that you will run out of mana for all the fights, but there is a magic spring near the top stronghold.

Week 16-17 Maze/Phoenix
The underground passage tells you which way to go. You can try to “carve your own path”, but it’s a waste of time, all other passages are blocked (for now). ‘Maze of Torment’ is self-explanatory… By the way, the word ‘Torment’ is not there for just dramatic effect and yes, you have to finish it.

Week 19-20 Rampart
Proceed to the Italian Restaurant… Main course – You. (The Unicorn battle is below btw) Advice from the tavern dwellers:

“Dragon flies are more effective in this type of fight than not-Upgr behemots. You need to block the gate and disable elves for one turn. Golds will be gorgons meat. You should not have too many troops and need retaliation fodder.
You need to get 1 rust dragon from that dwelling to be able to start first  ”

“Month 8 in rampart area is very slow. This should be done month 6 latest....
Just use force field to block your key troops inside the castle and destroy his catapult. He casts some buffs, then clones his Pegasi every turn (arrow towers kill a clone constantly) until his mana runs out. The rest is easy.”

“I attacked him in a siege (for me the main hero was Zero P**e (Clancy)). First turn his Gold Dragons flew in front of his Grand Elves, so I cast Berserk on the Elves so that they attack the Gold Dragons and killed themselves. Second turn I teleported my own Elves in so that he'll kill them and won't fly out. Then I cloned Behemoths through the wall and killed his Gold Dragons. Then he cast Frenzy on his Pegasi every turn (for some reason), so I let him waste his spell points, then resurrected Elves and shot everything down.”

“I've learned most is that manipulating RNG can change everything in a fight.
For instance, I had most trouble vs. the Italians (rampart) because the main hero kept casting mass dispel. Changed a few troops around (split) and then he stopped, allowing for easy FF+haste on titans to kill him.”

“his guy wasn't immune to blind so it is about surviving several turns. It is also handy to make goldies attack their own units with dragon breathe.”

Personal approach: (Elves, Titans, some arch mages, hydras, cows, Fairy Dragon for initiative, some Pegasi)
After playing tag with the town portal for about a week, I was able to attack him in a siege (him attacking me was a disaster because the turrets kept un-blinding the elves and the map spell generator decided that I am worthy of the “2.5% probability trophy” of not getting force field until I liberated my starting castle, so most of the strategies listed above were out the window).
Turn 1 Blind elves/block the gate (with Titans and my elves there, his dragons would come out to play no matter what).
Turn 2 Blind his Pegasi and continue the dance with the dragons.
Turn 3 Blind the Unicorns, because the [insert inappropriate word here] catapult took down a wall and they are trying to get out
Shortly after that the Dragon should move on to a better place and blind the rest (cross fingers for the dwarfs with their magic resistance). Resurrect + clone + bless.
Note – I did visit the magic spring during our earlier tag game so as to have enough mana to pull this off.

Unicorns (Anti-Magic)
You can see a video (under ‘nomagic’ label if the channel is still up) here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDPAzHdDZnqn-s5gp-0PjQa7W6IBoLCsW

Personal approach: Use a large stack of Hydras + Shooters and a few disposables. Put shooters in one corner and surround by disposables. Hydras wait and should be able to attack at least 3 stacks at a time. Second round you should have the initiative to finish them off. Note: a damaged stack of unicorns will not be able to kill off many hydras because of the defense boost they are getting from the hero. (I lost one from 400 Unicorns)

Screens from the start of the battle?

For most of them I just felt lucky to survive after 10+ tries... so photographic evidence was not exactly a priority, but I can dig around the save files.

Do you know if the system will complain about the length of the post if I add screens?

im right before the dragonmaster (pretty slow im at the start of month 11).
tho that last orange player is way to strong. he has got everything combined besides the trogs from the other heroes (resulting in over 3k black drag.) I've managed once to do the hypnotize trick behind his ammo cart, but he does not resurrect hypnotised troops unfortunatly. so with berserk i got him down to 1k black drags, but then i ran out of shots and he didnt got troops and my 327 titans were no match.

anyboddy got tips for this situation? im at the point where i can choose to defend in castle or to attack outside of a castle.
i do have a screenshot, but im new to the forum and its yet a mistery how to upload it here, but ill get to that later.

If you upload a save you might get some help. There are so many possibilities and problems that it is painful to check these with text.

My first intuition would be forgetfulness + forcefield then kill the harpy hags and you're set.

But doesn't work if he has Badge of Courage, see?
