Basically, I like all HOMMs. Though I must admit, HOMMV isn't too HOMMish. It has all those fancy animations, 3D graphics, but behind it all, there still is some of the HOMM spirit. I would blame Ubisoft for that. The 3DO and JvC really were doing a good job, too bad they went broke... Actually, you can't respect for another company to fully continue the work of another that was bought by it.

2D? Of course it works!

Ever heard of Blazblue? released a month ago or something...

Of course, this is a fighting game, but 2d still works!

For me, any HoMM game works, as long as you play it with pals. I'm a bit unsure about IV though... haven't played it but it looks a bit weird imo. H3 had more details.

And that is a successful game?

Anyway, that kind of fightning style is okey.

But imagine an RPG like Fable or MMO like WoW in 2D - would never work

Probably not... but anyone who liked the Guilty Gear series will most likely get it.

Too bad it's only for PS3... arrgh.

Yeah, 2D is probably limited to either mini games or fighting nowadays... most companies are so freaked out over the whole "OMG Next-gen" thingy... I've always been against the whole gameplay/graphics debate, where graphics are said to be more valued that gameplay, but things are really starting to look that way...

I'm not asking a reduction in graphics, absolutely not, but the gameplay (and sound) needs to keep up a bit.

But since the evolution never seems to stagger, and graphics needs to be constantly improved (wonder how many times Duke Nuke'em Forever has switched graphics engine?) I doubt it.

Bah, I'm probably just more aware of all the crap nowadays. When I was younger I could play any sort of game for weeks... no matter how bad it was.

I don't blame Ubisoft because they made Heroes V into a 3D game, that is good. But there is too much focus on that. Sometimes, that even hides the exciting things HOMM once had.

On the contrary, it has refined most of the things H3 had and added new layers of complexity and strategy. Trust me, I have seen a lot playing H5 at toh. Most of the criticism comments I have seen only scrape the surface, they cannot see what is underneath.

H3 was good, but H5 is the best one, I think. The main problem was that in the 1.0 the bugs were a lot, I think ToE has became the best HoMM game so far, but many people left it, tired of the non-existing balance.

Also the alternative upgrades (except some of them -arcane archers, crossbowmen...-) have contributed to make the factions very equalized. If somebody believes that ToE is not a balanced game, try to think of the 1.0 necromancy or training, as well as Fortress in 2.0

Ok,H5 is my favourite HoMM game,but H3 is better.Why?...

Because the HoMM 2-3 games had a good atmosphere, and I think I like them as very much HC members because they were from the first HoMM games, and having lots of improvements compared to H1.H3 was very good and fresh game because it had a better graphic, better design, better music, new towns, new skills, much spells (and much better) and more.Because this it was a very good feeling when starting to play it,I mean, what game had more improvements than the H3
Well, now it's hard to explain what was the feeling when playing H3 (I need to notice I had only 6 years old when I played it,but well,I started to play it in 2001) but was simply amazing that exploring and visiting, and fighting, recruiting creatures etc.)Anyway,at 6 years old you think can I understand what was the business of the skill system,or of some spells.I choosed them of how they look .

H5 is 3D,which is a new feature for older (not in age) HoMM players, but also improved graphics,IMO they are too comic graphics.
Forgot to say about the storyline. The H3 had a very good storyline,in H5 is also good, but it has so much things that a new player of H5 (which didn't checked the storyline from the net) won't understand some cutsenes.I don't need to post them here, but I'm sure other members posted them some time ago.
Now,talking on other parts of H5,the gameplay did not improved very much, and about creatures, some of important ones were lost in H5.More about creatures,H3 did not had overpowered creatures, like in H5.
And,more importantly, the atmosphere was lost in H5.I simply don't feel what I feel when playing H3 or H2.
H5 copied much H3 features, easily destroying their nice parts.I hope H6 will be more original, but I don't think this because I see it as an only graphic improved H5

is there a heroes 6 coming?

if there is... i hope they keep it the same style as 5

what i mean by that is.. in H3 you could NEVER have one MAIN hero.. because the maps were too big.. and movement too restricted (even with bonuses)

in H5... one great hero is really all you need... however they need a better spell selection if they make a 6.. and maybe have hero abilities that can level up... start with basic *hero ability* then adv and expert

Or is that hoping for too much

Partly it was ruined for me because I played the original Fallout a week before playing Oblivion.  Fallout is a truly excellent game.

I like a medium sized map like Beltway.

i dont think heroes 5 lost that much playability... the map selection is weak... but at least you can make your own maps

and you dont have to spend literally multiple days to finish a game... i dont understand why you think heroes 5 is SLOW
