Strange HOMM3 Map Editor Bug?

Hi there

I've been experiencing a very strange bug in the HOMM3 Map Editor lately. It's a bit hard to describe so bear with me:

Whenever i try to move the map window (The big one, not the minimap), nothing happens. The coordinates move correctly, and the minimap is moving aswell, but the map window just stays the same.

Here is an image to illustrate:

As you can see, the minimap is centered above a body of water, but the map windows is in the lower left corner at a neutral castle, it doesn't really add up

This happens no matter how i try to move the view, with the keyboard arrows, mouse wheel, or just dragging the bars in the sides, none of it works.

It's quite a major bug and it has kinda halted my map evelopment as you might imagine. Has anyone experienced anything similar? What do i do?

Btw, i have tried patching my HOMM3 to 1.4, but to no prevail.

Thanks in advance

I have had to reinstall the game after i patched, since the game would crash at launch, and the patch didn't correct the bug anyways. I think it might have something to do with my installation being a HoMM3 Complete, and the patch was meant for RoE.

Im not quite sure which version i have installed now though. The map editor is "Release Edition 3.00", but i don't know about the game itself?

Look for your heroes3.exe file in your main 3do folder (Crograms/3do/heroes...). Rightclick that exe file, properties...version.

Yes, any map, and i can't navigate in my own maps either.

I'm gonna try and install Heroes on my laptop, to check whether or not it has something to do with my computer.

I've installed Homm on my older laptop and now the editor is working great, so i guess i'll just have to make maps on my laptop and then move them to my desktop. Thanks for helping anyways Angelito

Yeah, that's weird. I've made maps with Homm3 Complete and HoMM3 Platinum, never had any problem like that. And I've used both Win98 and XP. You would'nt happen to be experiencing this with Vista by any chance would you? Just a guess only. And patches are'nt needed for any of the latter releases of HoMM3 as Angelito explained.

I've just come across this exact same problem with the GoG version of HOMM3 Complete...

The map editor worked fine on my main machine (running Windows 7), but I just installed it on a Vista machine and the editor screen doesn't seem to update as you move it round...

However, I just had a brainwave and solved it

This appears (for me at least) to be an issue with multiple monitors on Windows...
Namely, the map editor main screen updates properly only on the primary monitor as defined by Windows...
Secondary (and tertiary) monitors exhibit this refresh issue on both Vista and Windows 7, I don't have XP to test with...

Hope this info is useful for anyone else who might have this problem

I've experienced this as well; using Windows 7 with dual monitor setup. It's no biggy, really. You just can't scroll the map on the second monitor as it completely messes up the map for me (it seems to randomly displace tiles - but this is just a visual issue, the map isn't really shuffled like it looks). Move it to the primary monitor and scroll it one tick and the map looks as it should again. Annoying, but there's a work-around.
