Heroes3: Azure Dragon. combination of awesome ability and insane power.
Heroes4: Black Dragon. just the best looking and most powerful.
Heroes5: the upcoming Sapphire Dragon. looks awesome, powerful enough and unique ability.

ive always been more of fan of dragons that use ice kind of powers instead of flame. but only azure dragon from heroes 3 really represents this.

while ive played heroes 2 aswell, i didn't really wanna throw my vote about that.

Ah finally someone who asks about it!! Thats the beauty.

*Cough* Let see if I remember my own knowledge about these draconians...

The Draconian family members

Dragon: Dragons usually have wings, a pair of arms and two feet. They mostly breath fire but also other effects like acid, ice.

Drake: Drakes mostly walk on all four feet or some may rise up on two feet since they have two arms to compete in hight when they duel for a mating partner. A beautiful and stunning example is the Mega "Dragon" from Heroes 4 which IMHO is a DRAKE!!! they may breath ice, fire, acid etc but some dont have any special attacks besides their bite.

Wyvern: A member of the family that have no arms at all, but a pair of wings and two feets. IMO they are the best flyers, so good at it since the evolution of them removed their arms. The dont breath anything special anythin but bad breath its said that wyverns are very wise but also may be poisonous with a bite or the use of their tail.

Wyrm: Wyrms or so called sea worms/snakes (Leviathan?) Are wingless and limbless giant draconians! They may have a drake/wyvern/dragon like head but dont breath any fire, ice or acid substances, they may be toxic though. They are hidden in the deep oceans of the world an cna crush ships, just...like...that!

But heres the catch? The Magma and Fire dragons stands on two feet! Aaand breath fire. Simply they SHOULD really be renamed to Fire and Magma DRAKES. But since some drakes may rise up on two, and if they also breath fire. They could be called Dragons. Well anyway. I dont now if the HoF dragons/drakes always stand on two. But I would call them Drakes. If they had wings... I would call them Dragons at once!

Good point but there haven't been Drakes on heroes yet. In heroes III there where Mutare Drake as hero what looked a lot like Crystal Dragons face imo and that creature stand on two feets and didn't have wings.

Thats because NWC didnt know what the real difference between a drake and dragon. Thats why they called the big green dude in H4 for Mega Dragon and not Mega Drake.
So IMHO there have indeed been Drakes in heroes, they where just called Dragons. Same thing with the Crystal "Dragon"

Nah. I just dont like the thought, that just because Drakes dont have wings they are degenerated versions of Dragons...and demonic/devilish?? No thanks, but I guess some have that taste...

A good example of Dragon and Drakes can be found in the game LOTR - Battle for Middle from EA GAMES. U know the Dragon King (the big one that can incinerate everything and CAN FLY) and the little ones with no wings but with a very damaging fire breath called simply DRAKES witch later on with age develop wings and become a fully developed Dragon. Now i cant say for sure that Dragons are aged Drakes I may be mistaken but its a theory.

Well, the names for and relations between Dragons and Drakes can differ for every fanstasy universe. Often there's the usual difference, with Drakes as wingless dragons - although, in a lot more cases one of them or both just don't exist -, sometimes this difference is with the ability to breathe fire, and in a few occasions, the winged version are called Drakes or vice-versa. Or one of the names is used to describe both winged and wingless.
The relations between them also differ from Drakes being little Dragons, to Drakes and Dragons being related in a distant or close way, to being archenemies, with the Dragons representing the sky, and the Drakes living underground.

But, in general, I think we can state that Dragons are winged and more elegant, while the Drakes are earthbound and sturdy. That doesn't mean that the Magma Dragon isn't a dragon though. First of all, he's called the Magma Dargon. That makes all discussion pretty much unnecessary. They're also the children of the Fire Dragon. It's probably not meant literally, but there's some room for interpratation...

My on-topic opinion?
My overall favorite is probably the H3 Fairy Dragon. I don't know why, but I just loved it's looks, and it was a spellcaster, right? That was awesome!
In HOMM5, it's probably the Black Dragon. Nice looks, and well, it's a classic, right?

Dragon. But yeah, do you really think Nival/Ubi are that interested in whats the difference between a Dragon and a Drake are? Because they went with that name dosent make them right. And indeed its a bit unnessecary to discuss it, I doubt those guys want to change it.

Anyway back on topic

Let's leave this Dragon & Drake stuff aside and lets talk about the topic.
So my favorite Dragon from heroes V is defenetly the new Red Dragon from dungeon . Why ? Well its stats are not so different from his "cousin" the mighty Black ( 5HP and 10DMG less but it gets a good 1 initiative and the powerful Incinerate ability ). Ok it looses its magic imunity but think it this way now when U cast mass haste your dragons get the initiative bonus too. Now dungeon can have the ultimate killing machine : Red Dragon + mass haste + initiative artifacts (dragon set) + incinerate ability = one mean mother****er(excuse the language) with at least 16 points in initiative witch is above excellent on a lvl 7-th creature.

I formed this opinion mainly because my favorite faction is Dungeon and I am a Initiative player. A Warlock specialized in Attack + Initiative is a very deadly opponent.

Indeed. Im a bit terrifyed on how destructive Reddie will be and overshadow Blackie as the mightiest But no matter. I feel those two cousins are equal with both advantages and disadvantages. Now putting those two dueling against Emery and Sapphy would be interesting

lol actually the BLACK dragon will be cheaper because they will most likely also sink the cost of the normal tier 7's by 1000 so the Black Dragon would be 200g cheaper.

But my favorite Dragon also is the Black Dragon basically because of what it stands for. Pure Destruction and brute force just owns sissy nature peace and flower power for me
