A vulgar display of geekdom - Elven names

So I was reading Tolkien's Silmarillion a few days ago (again) and I became rather interested in the mini elven dictionary at the end of the book. Long story short, I researched a bit and found a pretty cool method of calculating people's elven names. Basically, you give me your name and I'll calculate your elven one. But I can't reveal the method cause it's a secret.
Well actually, no, it isn't. Basically I just look up the meaning of your name and translate it to elvish... But it can be pretty hard. Here's the example on my name:
My name is Stefan. That means "crown" in Greek. I looked up the word "crown" but didn't find it, so I took the words "aran" (king) and "tol" (helmet), making the word king's helmet (aka crown) and got Arantol.
Hence, my elven name is Arantol.
Geeky, huh?
Did it for some of my friends and family too. Turned out pretty good

Just post your names people.

Ha ha that's really cool! Try mine, my name is Kasper, which according to Wikipedia (and then it's true) originate from persian Casper, meaning "Master of the Treasury". Sounds pretty cool, huh? Wonder when they'll hand over the keys to me.

Elvin: Actually Apostolis means "messenger"... I think Quendur fits rather nicely - "Quen" means "to speak" or, as a noun, "word", and "dur" is a common male name ending meaning affinity and loyalty towards something/someone (in this case affinity towards words and loyalty to your lord). I can try to dig up some other name if you want but this was closest to the word "messenger".
Alc: Your name seems to be Herumal - "heru" means "lord", "master", can also be used for functionaries set by the king, and "mal" means "gold". You can also use Malhir if you want, meaning is the same. "Hir" is a variation of "Heru".

So, do you like your new names?

Next please

I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer Malheru (Gold Master) to Herumal, but you're the expert on the elven language.

@Goran: As far as I know, Goran comes from "Gora", meaning hill or lone mountain, right? So your name would be Amondil, "amon" meaning "mountain" and "-dil" being very similar to "-dur" meaning "affinity", "love", "loyalty" in male names.

@Alc: Malheru is gramatically ok too, I think. "Heru" can also stand at the end of the name. It's somewhat rare that a male elven name ends with a vowel, but hey, it makes the name all the more interesting Very well then, Malheru it is.

Why? Quendur is a lovely name. I'd call you Quendil, but that would mean something like "Elfkin" (Quendi means elves, or "they who talk" since elves were the first talking race), not "messenger"... So Quendur is closest. And it's a really ok name...
Now you've made me feel bad

Quendur sounds a lot like Queldor, an Ice Demon I've invented.  So I'd agree that it's a lovely name, but then I'm biased.

@Kooka: Then I suppose your (real) name is Lousine? Or Selene, but I doubt it, cause that's very rare... I need you to precise that (actually I don't, it's perfectly unrelated, I'm just curious )
Anyway, that's easy to calculate, it's Isil. "Isil" simply means "moon".

My middle name is Joy, maybe that will spice it up a bit or is that pushing the free translation friendship...?

GL: Gadi means "God is my fortune" which is sort of tough to translate but I'll try... I just can't understand how a 4 letter name has a meaning of 4 words, one of which is 7 letters long
Ok, "amart" means "fortune", and Eru is God, while "'n" means "is" and "amin" is "my, mine" so it should be something like Eru'n Amartamin, or Eru'n Aminamart... Having two names isn't uncommon in elven.

The elven word for "joy" is "alasse". I couldn't find a way that could spice it up. You'll just have to accept that sometimes there is far more beauty in simplicity than in fancy complication (take GL's name for example ).
