Idea - Player or Neutral (taken from Age of Wonders)

This is maybe not a new idea but I haven't seen it. I have noticed that Age of Wonders has many features that can be used and here is one of them:
In Age of Wonders, when you play against several computer enemies, you can choose what should be they - with stronger or weaker AI and if they would be Independent. This means: if they are, their town will be neutral.
In AoW the Independents were actually the biggest town - everything neutral was theirs - neutral towns, creatures, heroes...
How would this work in Heroes?
If there is a map for eight players and you don't want to fight against so many enemies but you like the map, you can switch some of the enemies to be neutral. For example, 3 computer players and 4 neutral. What will happen to the neutral players? Their towns will be neutral - with no alignment. So everyone will be able to conquer them.
This idea may be used sometimes but it should be expanded. If the neutral players have stacks of creatures without a hero (which is one of the new features of HoMM4), these creatures will become neutral and will cross the map and maybe conquer your towns. These towns will become neutral and you will have to reconquer them. The problem is with the heroes. If the players that are set to be neutral have heroes, then what? Is it possible for neutral heroes to exist?
Why not? Heroes 4 has already taken some features of Age of Wonders - more than one hero in an army and an army without a hero. So why there shouldn't be neutral heroes? They will cross the map like the wandering creatures and can have creatures in their armies. These heroes would be able to join one of the players (if you have a strong army or Diplomacy) or fight with them so they will be able to gain experience, too.
The main problem is this - should neutral heroes be able to pick neutral wandering creatures? Examine this situation - a neutral hero picks a throng of Titans and attacks you... No, maybe there has to be a limit. A neutral hero can have an army strong to a definite limit. If he wants to have a stronger army, he has to gain experience...
The other question - how will the neutral hero decide which skill to take when makes a level? The AI should be improved, obviously.
OK. I wrote my idea, now I wonder if someone will agree. Do you really want to pay attention for neutral heroes? Do you want the game to be so complicated? Will these features spoil the Heroes series?
Please, answer.

I dont think I like the idea.

Incorporating all good things for AoW or any other game wont help. It will make HoMM just another of the kind. We gamers, or al least I, are looking for somthing special that no other game can give. IMHO HoMM should follow its own path. 3DO should put all its efforts in creating a uniqe game.

On the other hand, maybe an ultimate turn-based strategy game is not that bad idea. Imagine having one game that combines the best of HoMM, AoW, Desciples ...

What a coincidence! You talk about the ultimate turn-based game and I have made a thread about it a few days ago... I think it's a coincidence, you don't sound as if you have read the thread...
About your opinion - I thought that people won't like the idea. But maybe someone will agree?

I saw the interview and the screenshot in Djive's thread... As I understand, there WILL be neutral heroes. So I predicted it... But of course they hadn't taken the idea from me.
It seems that Heroes 4 will really copy many things from Age of Wonders.
