I actually raised this point with other mods recently as well, the ratings do get abused and that's a shame. People will rate threads "to delete" or "chitchat" as a means of taking an anonymous shot at someone, and I think that's pretty cowardly.

Its a shame to see it abused too, because it can be really helpful. Some members use it well, a good example would be Vlaad in WoG - lots of very handy "to deletes" there, and not because he dislikes the poster

Ok Mods on here also favor different issues more then others.
So say we talk about religion, a great thread & another topic about having kids.
A mod would favor the kids thread more because he does not believe in religion.
Both threads would be great equally but only one would get a quality point.
This phrase again shows, you, Aculias, have NO clue about how Mods work here. I am pretty tired of your "Mods are all biased" blabla. You just have to get rid of that idea after so long time. Mods don't give +QP coz the member's post state THEIR opinion. That's real nonsense! Just show an example....only ONE.

On the other hand, you may be right we are sometimes biased, coz if we would strictly act like the CoC tells us, you would have recieved many more -QP for endlessly posting spam posts outside the wastelands. You do that in nearly EVERY forum. So you really should be glad we ARE "biased" every now and then!

Even though I started this thread, it's not something I'm passionate about. Yea, some of the ratings bug me, but it's not really that big of a deal. But it seems that some other people have pretty strong feelings about it.

You have no idea. Give me thread ratings or give me death!

Part of teh problem I think is that we don't always have the right thread rating for the topic - new thread ratings could help some.

I find certain ratings like "average", "unrelated", "chit-chat" and "to delete" are the ones most often misused. Interestingly enough, it seems that those ratings generally seem to follow certain thread starters - perhaps some that have disagreements with those who rate them... That's what i dislike. I would hope to see that people who aren't involved in threads find the power to keep their fingers off the rating button. I would also hope to see that people stop rating threads based on their own personal likes and dislikes - and look at the active participation in the thread.

If a thread has 60 views and 40 ontopic replies - I don't see where anyone can decide it deserves a poor rating, just because they do not have interest. But it seems that too often, that is the case.

I think you misunderstood me Angelo
I was trying to say that some mods PERSONALLY may like certain topics more then others.
Some topics yall may not even really understand.
So it may be simpler to read one thread & not the other.

But it doesn't matter if we like something or not - the whole point is that we're supposed to be objective.

Either way, moderator bias really isn't the topic - we're not the ones doing the ratings in question

I actually like the Thread Ratings, to be perfectly honest.

They can give me some info on what the thread might be about before even reading it.

I usually like looking for threads that have ratings such as "community" or "important" or anything like that.

Seeing my threads without ratings (well some of them), does not really bother me, cos not every thread is gonna be good for everyone.

I like the Rating system, although I can't rate threads as of yet, but I like it when threads have ratings.

It really is not a big problem at all, in my opinion.

Lol this is probably the only time I'll ever agree with MVas

I haven't seen a lot of forums with the thread rating option, and, well, it's not like it's needed really. But it doesn't hurt either. Most of the time it's just there and when you read the thread you decide whether you agree with the rating or not (if you even notice it). Nothing to get excited about.

About 5-star members wanting a privilege, how about letting them view (though still not post in) the modsquad headquarters?

Hmm, yeah - good plan!

Since they abuse the ratings, lets just let them in the squad... they're sure not to abuse that...

(in case it needs saying, I was being sarcastic - I'd never support that idea )

Well how can they abuse that if they can't post anything? You're afraid they'll find out something they shouldn't?

Are you making WMDs there? I've noticed the green smoke, you know. And a pigeon tried to kill me with lasers from his eyes the other day...

People could give out their password and let others read.. and yes, there are things that other people should not know.

Some of the things are brought to us in confidence, and members don't expect that the general public will hear what they are saying, giving regular members access to the HQ would break the trust of the people who think they are talking in private.

Just a suggestion...

As for myself, I don't really care about those ratings...rarely ever notice them...Although showing who rated the threads might be a good idea...

I propose a solution: exclusive fora (plural of forum), that work in a similar fashion to Mod Squad. One for 3 red stars or above, one for 4, and so on.
