Archliches. Hate playing against them, but luv playing with them.
But Rune Patriarchs are also very useful.

I think the Rune Patriarchs are pretty weak, and the Archliches are large creatures which makes it easy to block for an offensive enemy.

OMG<OMG,OmG crossfire is awesome skillthat dosent damage ur troops,firewall works deadlywith warlords and dragons,deflect missle on magmas,and the enemy cant do seripus damage,with mark of firemthe swarven hero could do great damage ,,not to mention igniteRune patriarch are very cheap ,have high groutgh,ad with expert luck crossfire is deadlier than deadly.This makes the patriarch on of the strongest l.5,among with hydras,chieftains and white unicorns

Well every creature has it's strengths and weaknesses. I like the spell set that they have, and though they hit weakly, like the inquisitors, they are durable so they will be able to shoot weakly for some time.

In the end, it is all a mater of opinion.
Imagine how it would be if we all liked the same creatures:
-The Hydras are cool!
-Yes they are very cool.
-Hydras rocks.
-Yes I agree with you.
It would be boring. And pointless.

Unicorn is to me not a favourite.. and doesn't save me a lot..
When you run out of Mana and creatures - You smile and look at your stack with 50 Deep hydras and start to laugh... They can save your day
sadly i must vote Nightmare... I love them, more then the other 2 guys
P.S. The weak guys are djins and mummies , Djins die to qucik but they are great canon fodders and Mummies are slow..

Anyway, Rune Patriarchs are not bad at all, but absurd resource requirements to build dwelling (10 Wood + 10 Ore + 5 Gems + 5 Crystal + 5 Mercury + 5 Sulfur) and then to upgrade (another 5 Crystal and 10 Gems) make them something that's not gonna happen at all in regular games. Especially considering that Thanes also need those Gems and Crystal for their Dwelling, as does the Fire Dragons ...

I don't mind skipping thanes for them. Considering that there is a horde building their growth is nice. If you are doing a might fortress it's not a bad unit at all.
But yes, it depends on how you are doing on resources.

its good that you like Fortress so much, I like the alot to, especially in LARGE maps. but seriously...Im not the one who storms out with **** that Fortress is the best of all, all towns are great in eeach way, all have strenght and weaknessess. I like the others town to. But harr! Yeah thier Fortress yer damni guid me sey, bring on tha dwarven mead!! And salted pork!!!

I think it was H5 that got me to like the dwarves. In other games I wasn't so interested in playing them with maybe an exception in AoW2 but even there there were low on my priorities.

Silver unicorns for me, something about 79 health on them, with their good stats and speed and initiative. Blind and Magic Resistance are a bonus, but man they live forever.
If you have never seen the Unicorn Specialist at level 20 or so then you could not understand the pain they give.
I like all the level 5's except for the Inquisitors, a ranged "tank" is a very bad plan, yeah they stay alive longer but dealing next to no damage while being alive or dealing more damage while dying faster, I know which one I would choose.

my vote goes archliches they do great damage and they how highest stats for his tier 20/20 also deep hydras are good,but they main weakness is they initiave and speed mummys are very useful for playing necropolis.

Being a caster/shooter enthusiast, my vote if for Archliches and Rune Patriarch for their area attacks. Ended up voting Archliches because Decay seems a tad bit better than Firewall, and a 3x3 area attack is better than a cross. The only downside is that the Archliches do poorly against other undeads and a few other units. And I once had to sacrifice my own ballista because enemy stacks bunched up near it  .
As for Silver Unicorn, their aura sounds useful, but hardly seems to affect any of my units. Blinding attacks are very handy though, but the more powerful the unit you want to blind, the higher risk you run in case the blind doesn't come into effect and the enemy retaliates.

archliches are mediocre units(I guess its a necro thing). if you want them dead just run your offensive melee units over and smack them silly, done.

Since I am a sylvan fan, I am biased and like the Unicorns. One thing I will say about the Rune guys tho..there strength actually comes vs other ranged creatures. They can lay down the fire wall and make the enemy ranged move, or take damage each round. This can cause havoc. Also, they are one ranged unit you don't want to rush with melee units (cause they can lay down same wall of fire to make you move or take damage). With runes, they can be powerful. Still they are very expensive (especially the buildings).

i reckon that nightmare and arch liches are my most favourite creatures to use in HoMM5.But then again,fear won't work against archliches and all undead.(Wait or is it just skelies and zombies?) And archlich can hit more than one enemy.(if they are alive and not spread out)

I would say hydras becuase they can take a lot of hits. But for attacks I pressume the archlich will help you kill a lot of creatures. Necro Rulz
