State of the game/dga/players

Hi, i only found out about this game very recently, and as i love the computer game, was very interested.
Unfortunatly, there is not much information on the internet about the CTG (especially heroes V)

To start off:
Are the cards in the starters random?
Which factions come in the starters?
Is it worthwhile getting multiple starters?
What is the card distribution like in boosters?
Does one booster pack have one faction in it, or is it all mixed up?

I am also wondering if DGA is still supporting this game?

Heroes V CTG does not have any card lists (even though it seems people have been asking for a while)
It doesnt have any FAQ/Errata (which Heroes IV CTG did)
Are DGA planning on releasing any campaigns for this game? (Heroes IV had 2 official ones that i can find)
Are there expansions planned?
The website says 'coming soon' for a few sections, but considering the game has been out for a year, im not hopeful it will be coming.

At least Heroes IV had this good website
http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes4card/heroes4ivcardandtilegame.shtml

Even on www.boardgamegeek.com which usually has lots of good info on games, with heroes V it had nothing.

Do people still play HeroesV CTG? or should i buy Heroes IV instead? Or should i just steer clear of the game!?

Any information / help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,

nice to see that there's one more interested player out there!

The situation is very difficult for fans of the CTGs. Both games (IV and V) are very difficult to get in stores and the support from DGA isn't something what I would call support.
It was better when H4CTG came out in the stores. There was startune at this forum who answered every question about the game. He is (or was?) someone at DGA. But there is no information from startune since a very long time so I think he is no longer involved in the games.

The "active" players of H4CTG (if there are any left) are very quiet - there are no new posts in this forum for a long time. I do not know of any H5CTG player.
I know that Psychobabble is still interested in H4CTG (I did some very fair trades with him). And - as me - he is looking at this forum in sporadic intervals.

So that's the situation from my point of view.

If you are still interested in the games let me tell you something about them (well "them" means H4CTG because I did not know anything about H5CTG):

I like the game very much. Collecting and trading was fun. The game is fun. I would buy it again so I think it's worth a try if you want. Me - in your situation - would buy H4CTG because there's really not one known person in this forum playing H5CTG (I could be wrong but I don't think so). So if you want to have a chance to trade cards H4CTG is the way to go.
I don't want to make you wrong promises: I know that Psychobabble has the set of cards he wants so I'm not shure if he wants to trade anymore. I'm looking for several cards so I'm willing to trade but there will be no really big deals I think. But there are cards I want for which I would give away complete unopened Boosters I still have (for this reason).

There is a nice review of the game at Celestialheavens from Psychobabble. Maybe you want to read this:
http://www.celestialheavens.com/viewpage.php?id=439
If you want to have a look at the cards I have (and to see what is possible if you want to spend a lot of money in the game ;-) ) you can have a look at my list of cards:
http://www.frank-henneberg.com/hiv_cctg/HIV_CCTG_Checklist_MY_CARDS.xls
(Uuups! I see that my checklist is not up to date. I'll check the list and there will be an up to date version in the next one or two days. You know that the list is up to date when there 0 devils in the units list (I traded them away and now devils are my most wanted cards).

If you have any question about the game don't hesitate and write me a message!

Greetings
Loco Blutaxt

P.S.: If you want a quick-start without having a lot of communication I would strongly recommand that you start with at least two starter sets. This will give you a nice set of cards and the chance of playing interesting games.

Thanks for the reply, im glad to see the forum is still active at least!

As you said, the games hard to come by.
For me, i have easier access to buying heroes V than heroes IV

(i have heard that the map tiles in V are bigger and i enjoy the computer gameplay of V more than IV)

For these reasons i will try heroes V (even though i know next to nothing about it!)

So unfortunatly i wont really be able to trade with you, however when i get more cards in the future, i may post here to see if anyone is interested in trading Heroes V cards (having said that, i live in Australia, so already it may be a bit more difficult)

Hopefully when i get my two starters, ill know more about the game and ill be sure to post what i know and see up here for others.

Well - i regret that you don't want to go into H4CTG but on the other side I'm looking forward getting some information about H5CTG.

So please let me know everything about it when you got the game!!!
I want to know everything (content of the starters, mix of cards in the boosters, loveliness of the tiles, quality of the print - just everything)!

You can be shure that I have a look at this forum. Not daily but every week or so and I'm keen "hearing" from you!

Greetings

I just recieved my starter boxes and 2 boosters!
I will try and post photos up of the game on the website

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/23849

So you can see what the tiles etc look like!

When i finally play the game, i will also try to post a review.

I will also try to post about the mix of cards in boosters later.

I just have a question about units which cast spells (i dont know how similar it is from IV to V)

Im not sure how they work?

The easiest to understand is the Druid elder, which says you can use his action to cast a spell that is actually printed on the card.

Then there are other spellcasters like the Arch mage who says you can cast spells from your hand or adventure stack, but the spells are already printed on the card. Does that mean i can cast the spells from the card? or can i only cast them from my hand/adventure stack?

Lastly how does casting spells from your hand/adventure stack actually work? After the unit has cast the spell, does it return to your hand/adventure stack, or can you only use it once?
Also, can the unit cast the spell if the spell is in the Heroes Inventory?

I had a look at this side. The tiles look very similar to the ones of H4CTG but bigger. There's no chance to use minis in H4CTG. But from what I see it's possible to use the tiles of H5CTG to H4CTG.

I'm very curious. Please write a short note when updating the website above.

Me too - I can only talk about how it is in H4CTG.

I think there are two ways casting spells with creatures. The Druid-Elder-Version and the Arch-Mage-Version. H4CTG can maybe answer your questions. Look at this links:
http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/gallery.php?game=heroes4card&image=cards/4_Angels&back=creatureslife.shtml
http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/gallery.php?game=heroes4card&image=cards/2_Magi&back=creaturesorder.shtml
I think the difference is that the spells you need no card for are spells with no duration. The spells you need a card for have a duration so you have to mark them during battle until it's over. Could this be the difference?

In H4CTG they return to your hand/adventure stack. (Again see the link above.)
Quote:

No - I don't think so.

Looking at your pictures at boardgamegeek (especially the scans of the cards) I think the game mechanics of the two games are very similar so I'm shure you will have a lot of fun playing and a lot of questions to ask in the future...
Well - a lot of questions (for H4CTG) have been answered in this forum but the answers are hard to find. So feel free to ask and I'll try to answer. There are still things unclear to me after playing the game a few times. In some cases it can help to agree with your gaming partner about some rules...

Is there anyway to buy Heroes IV CTG game?  I had previously emailed startune (seems like he was involved previously with this CTG in a ig way) but there is no reply from him or anyone from DGA.

I believe this is still available (and I would like to try and get the full pack with expansions), but how can I get it when there is no reply from DGA?

@Ivor,

I hate to say this, but I am afraid that DGA seems to have all but vanished.  My email was also unreplied for months.

Should I be able (by some means) to obtain the cards, I should possibly want to trade also (that's the idea of CCG anyway), unless I could be that lucky to have no duplicates (is that even remotely possible?).

Seems like the starter pack and the deluxe packs have already (or almost) run out?  Some stores that sell the booster packs even stated that the starter/deluxe packs are "out of print", which seems to mean that it is NOT possible to get new copies in future.

At this rate the game would really be "extinct"  Isn't anybody going to reprint it (at least the map tiles and game components)

You should get Starter Packs there:
http://www.maddisongames.co.uk/shop/categories/search.php?q=heroes&Submit=Find+It!

And I'm willing to trade many, many cards!

It is not possible to have no duplicates - but you will need them so it's not a bad thing. The booster packs are well sorted. You will get a city with adequate hero and troops with each booster pack and artefacts, mines etc which are random.

Hi Loco and all,

Thank you for your recent post about the UK site that sells HOMM.
Can you post a list of your wanted/have cards as I did?

Trading will be great!

Best,
Ivor

p.s - got another Stormwind case, so plenty of cards there for trade.

Thanks for the tip, but no places in USA that sell the starter pack or booster pack?

In sterling pounds means that the items will be more expensive by 33% in my local currency, but I guess I can't choose...

I will also post my cards available for trading should I have any available.

Hi all,

@rangerivor: I have tons of cards so it will take many hours to get an up-to-date list of my cards but I will give my best. Give me one or two more weeks and I'll post a link here.

@broadstrong: I have all my cards from CCG Armory (http://www.ccgarmory.com/heofmimaivcc.html). They are selling from USA and they have Boosters and Booster Pack Boxes regrettably no more starters. Maybe this helps you.

@all: I do not have any storm wind expansion card. Please consider this when thinking of trading with me.

Greetings

Buying boosters and starters

Hi everyone,

DGA does still exist but only for selling purposes it appears. I have gotten booster boxes directly from them however they do not respond to any emails. If you would like to buy boosters you can on their website and they say you can buy starter sets as well. Here is their link as well as phone number. If you order something from them they will talk to you on the phone if you have any questions for them.
